@@poloreacts27 Hey, it happens. Personally, I prefer to listen to music, especially if it's live, sober. Mostly because I want to remember exactly how the show was. Also because sometimes you end up arround people really high and out of it (especially at festivals). They always seem to find me... And want to hang out. (That's what happens when you're a metalhead who looks like a kindergarden teacher/mini van driving soccer mom. But I'm neither.)

This song hit me so hard during my divorce. It still brings tears to my eyes every time. I was suicidal and so hurt, I listened to this on repeat for months. I can't say it helped the depression but I can tell you it hit hard. "It took the death of hope to let you go."

As a woman, who also listened to this on repeat after a very heavy breakup, and a fan of this song/band in general, it definitely hits different when you're in this type of pain. And every time I hear it I almost wanna turn it off. But it reminds me I'm alive and able to feel it and be OK ❤

It’s been over a year now since mine. She has found someone else and we have such a terrible relationship coparenting for our son.
I was blessed enough to survive my attempt. This song is now a reminder that the pain I went through and my mental state was justified. Though it isn’t a death sentence. I will live with my mistakes and continue to fight for as perfect I life as I can for my son.
“Angels lie to keep control” has just as much weight as “it took the death of hope to let you go” did 1.5 years ago.

All these lines are an extension of the same concept - there is no soft landing in letting go of someone. The pain someone feels only gets worse if the other person keeps reaching back, giving them hope, looking for contact...just keeping them hanging on longer. That's why the first one is "if you love me, let me go"

This song is the perfect definition of depression. The way you try to mess everything up because you think you're going to destroy it in the end. Finding someone you love but constantly thinking that you don't deserve them. You try and and explain to them what's going on and they slowly try to distance themselves. You take everything the wrong way and tell them "I never claimed to be a saint". Songs heavy as hell.
The brain is one of the most complex organs in the human body but the easiest to break. Always treat someone with respect and passion. You don't know what's going on inside them.

Corey is an amazing vocalist when he’s singing clean. Songs like this are the exception for Slipknot. He has/had another band called Stone Sour and they are “lighter” than Slipknot. Again, not naming names, it's about someone who helped me through a lot and I thought she felt the same way that I did and then she really let me down. Slipknot is primarily a juggernaut of extreme metal 🤘🤘 w/ shredding tracks like - 'Left behind'... 'Surfacing'... 'The blister exists'... 'Duality'... etc. But once in a while, Slipknot churns out these intense gems like 'Snuff' (this was all Corey Taylor's songwriting) and they have these rather haunting, heavy songs like - 'Vermillion'... 'Gently' ... 'Killpop'... 'Gehenna'... 🔥🔥 that give Slipknot a musical diversity that most current bands do not have.

Part of what makes slipknot so addicting is how much lore and attention to detail there is in their art. Understanding the journey of their lives while they released their music and the things that influenced them at the time is really what makes me put them on repeat. It all so real and felt.

Hey my man, just found your channel and really like your content. Its nice to see someone who really appreciates music for what it can be, even if it is not necessarily your particular vibe.
As much as I would rather have you jump down the rabbit hole that is heavier music, (this song is a pretty good representation of the power behind some kinds of metal music), I can't express how powerful the song "Pain Remains I, Dancing Like Flames" by Lorna Shore is.
I do not want to give away much in case you end up seeing this comment and then try the song, but it has had me in full blown tears even after dozens of listens. I recommend not looking up much on the band or song, though I do highly suggest having the lyrics up as you listen. It is a VERY heavy song in multiple aspects but feel you would be open enough to understand the song for what it is.
New subscriber here, great content. :)

For me Slipknot became popular at the perfect time in my life where I was angry, I hated people, and just had a lot of misguided rage in me. So when I heard their Iowa album when it came out it just fit like a puzzle piece for me. It gave me an outlet where I could latch on to the music rather than my rage. Then Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses came out at the perfect time where I was over all that, and while it was still aggressive it wasn't anger/rage filled and was a perfect fit for me at that time. Crazy how you can latch on to music to get you through things...

For me, this song makes me think of my upbringing, but it’s still just as powerful. The line that plays on repeat in my head is “Love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage.” It’s so descriptive of what I feel.

Corey is such an underrated writer, and this is a deeply personal song despite what anyone might say, I have zero doubt he was in a place when he wrote this. My favorite line, "it took the death of hope to let you go" and this song is from the album "All Hope is Gone"

This song specifically is different compared to most of Slipknot songs. That’s why I love it it’s so soothing and has a deep meaning wrapped in emotion so I’m not sure if you’ll grasp the band based on this song because it isn’t a heavy feel in the sense of all the drums and all booming but it’s still amazing.

Slipknot is the processing and space holding for a massive collective pain. It’s actually extremely sweet and empathetic if you think about it. It all clicks when you get into the lyrics

Back in 2011-2012, I had a boyfriend I had to let go because he was struggling with addiction, and I couldn't help him. He sent me this song. A month later, he overdosed on methadone he'd gotten from a friend, trying to get clean so we could be together. This song will never not be a gut punch. Every once in a while, I listen to it to remember that someone was willing to risk dying to be with me, and I had an obligation to that sacrifice to never let a moment of life go to waste.

Don't feel alone about Slipknot. I could not get into them until they released Volume 3. Duality really caught my attention.
And Corey Taylor's songs on the Stone Sour recordings are phenomenal. His solo stuff is excellent also. And a bit closer to this style, unlike most Slipknot songs. Also see them in concert, they are excellent.

It's a very powerful, emotional track, if hardly their standard. I recommend their masterpiece, Iowa, but there is a whole catalog of great songs. Incidentally, if you'd like to hear more like this, Blue October did some amazing, heart wrenching music, Hate Me is so similar.

Bro, this song is so much fucking deeper for massive Slipknot songs like me.
This song is not an anthem for Paul Grey (Slipknot's bassist, founding member and main song writer for Slipknot. The song was not written with Paul in mind. But so many of the lyrics relate to Paul after his death and struggles. It was also Paul's favourite song and would often sing it in the studio when they were recording.
This shit make me cry man. Especially now Joey is dead as well. I owe a lot of my life so Slipknot and Joey especially. (If it wasn't for Slipknot and, more importantly Joey I wouldn't have met my GF of over 20 years and the mother of my 2 children).

When you said you like this part of Slipknot- imo this is the subtext and footnote behind every song. What i think is often missed is that you don't end up screaming into the void wearing a mask if you're an ACTUAL sociopath🙃

  • @wolfinthesno

Hey man, this song is a lot of people's song for slipknot. It's so accessible but still has a lot of the hallmarks of even some of slipknots heavier tracks.
One thing that is very different from other slipknot tracks is that the drums are non-existent until over halfway through the song, which emphasizes the pain, and anger in Corey's Voice when they finally do hit.
