      I’m a high handicap golfer and can definitely vouch for the effectiveness of using chapstick. I’ve been practicing 5 days a week in a hitting bay at a local golf store. Using chapstick on the driver’s face reduces the spin rate approximately 25-30% for me, which translates into 10-15 more yards.

    Been using it for a couple of years now. EVERY driver shot goes straight down the middle.
    Since I never play for money, or in any tourneys, I could give a crap it's illegal.
    It makes the game much more enjoyable for me hitting the middle of fairways all the time. Now for my approach shots.....eh.................not so much......

    A quick spray of silicon lubricant will do the same thing. With lower backspin you'll need to hit the ball at a higher trajectory via swing or club adjustments. Should net a good gain in distance in both carry and roll out.

    I was skeptical after watching this last night 12/14/21. I was to play a round of golf with my dad today whose 84 years young and friend of his. I haven’t been able to play since April due to a elbow injury (golf related).
    We’re on #1 tee box and start thinking that I may have some spf 30 lip balm in my bag… I did. I decided to rub it on the face of my driver without telling anyone. I drove the ball straight down the fairway. I can occasionally do that so I didn’t mention anything. Hole 2 same thing. Hole 3 is a par 3. Hole 4 I add a little more balm and again straight down the fairway. Dad was slicing a bit. So I told them both what I had been doing. So hole 5 we all have this lip balm on our drivers. All hit straight…. I’m not joking. We kept using it all day and I used it on my 3 wood with excellent results.
    After 18 holes I sliced 0 drives..😳 only our friend hit 2 slices but he said when he would normally swing like he did the slice would be ridiculous. These were not terrible slices he hit. My best round ever today 84. I took a stupid 8 on hole 18 par 5 488 yards. Beautiful drive and excellent 3 wood to be 90 yards from the green and then totally fall apart. I’ve never ever hit 18 holes without my normal 6-7 slices. Not sure I will buy the stuff you’re reviewing because this lip balm I think worked amazing..

    I remember reading in a book when I was a kid, golf hustlers (at least in the US) used to coat their drivers with a thin layer of petroleum jelly (Vaseline), under the logic that it kept the ball in contact with the clubface for a slightly longer time and would slow down spin as the ball would be held in place relative to the clubface longer, resulting in longer, straighter drives. This seems like a modernization of that hustle.

    • @GreenDistantStar
      @GreenDistantStar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Titanic Thompson and Ray Floyd have talked about this. I have an idea the Vaseline thing has been tested and failed, there might be a YT clip about it. Maybe this stuff is more than just faux petroleum jelly. Add a Polara ball and you're straight all day.

      As a caddie at Oak Hill, when carrying a single, I always carried bubblegum so that the unfortunate getting hustled could press the match when I hit the driver with b-gum stickum on dogleg left and sweat from my forehead for dogleg right. Worked invariably on later holes to give my player an up w/o even knowing, as his hustling competitor was waning from late round fatigue. Reminded my player that if he chose me to caddie he'd have a memorable round. Only way I got to caddie.

    I have been using Vaseline for years and it works. I told my playing partners and they laughed it off. It made the game more enjoyable for me and withe extra confidence my swing started to improve. I load up a corner of my golf towel at the beginning of a round and then after I clean my club I smear a very small amount on the face. You also get the side benefit of seeing where you made contact so you can make adjustments to your setup.

    The USGA have appointed themselves as the official set of rules for golf to which I say 'whatever', you have no business dictating the rules I play by. I have my own set of rules which are as follows: You're allowed to put a substance on any club such as this or vaseline, carry as many clubs as you like, clean your ball after every shot, give yourself any lie within a clublength after every shot, put sandpaper on your wedges.. and new rules are being added whenever I think of them. On the last one, one of the guys I was with hit a bomb and I noticed that the ball looked like a knuckle ball going out… left right left right etc. Then I looked at my friend who was posing with the club in the finish position and there was a bunch of grass clippings hanging off the face…. lol So I said let me look at that driver and he reluctantly let me and sure enough he had a bunch of Chapstick on the face of it.. haha! BUSTED !! This was 25 years ago. It does work as long as the face is aimed toward the fairway when it meets the ball… if it’s aimed right at impact that’s where the ball is going.. strait as a string but right.

    • @tmo4330
      @tmo4330 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe once every 2 rounds you will hit a big flyer on your approach to the green. Other than that, I don't notice it being greasy.

  • @bessergolfmitalex
    @bessergolfmitalex 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The physics behind is that you adding a small amount of weight to the center of the golf ball at impact which keeps the gravity more straight and lowers the spin. Same result will be to add a small straight line of glue on the ball inside a few dimples (and tee up vertical against the club face).

  • @Jr_5646
    @Jr_5646 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It definitely works. It reduces backspin as well as sidespin. The real trick is to loft up about 1-2 degrees from where you normally play. You will hit absolute bombs! If you dont loft up you will hit knukleballs that fall out of the sky too early. I've never used slic stic, but I used to use Dr Scholls foot spray as a type of impact tape on the driving range. Never used it on course, but it was fun to mess with on the range.

      What do you mean loft up?

    • @Jr_5646
      @Jr_5646 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mikejaros7526 I mean play more loft then you typically would play on your driver. If you normally play a 9.5 degree, then when you put the slic stic on the face you would need to play 10.5 or 11.5 degrees in order to get enough launch and backspin on the ball for it to fly optimally.

    This stuff works! I just drove 8 straight bullets out my backyard after getting it in the mail. You have to hit it off the face tho. Toe or thin hits won’t help, obviously. I used to either have a slight slice or nasty hook, but drive decent when I hit it short. But now I can let her rip! Woo hoo!!!
