- How to replace the thermostat and housing on a 2003 ford focus SVT 2.0 DOHC. This is an upgrade to swap the common thermostat housing leak problems on the ford focus and replacing it with a ford contour thermostat housing. Below are the links to the parts you will need and this is a direct fit with no modification.

Thank you for ending my two years of head scratching - after watching this I took a look and saw the plug is missing from my housing, probably from when the garage fitted a new one, presumably without it. Now I just have to find another, which is proving difficult, maybe I should follow your example and fit a Contour one. Anyway, thanks again, this is the ONLY page on the WHOLE internet which has solved my problem.
(Edit) I've just been looking at replacement housings, some say "Housing has No By-Pass port, No Temp Sensor port type" so maybe the replacement fitted by my garage does not need the plug. So maybe the leak is elsewhere - so maybe back to head scratching.
Thanks! Yeah I got sick of replacing the thermostat housing and gasket thinking it was the gasket between the housing and engine block every time. When I realized it was that plug that you have to reuse every time kinda of a poor design in my opinion ford should of just had made a thermostat housing made only for the svt Focus.
Great Job Good Man !!!
I have a 2000 Focus ZTS. and it doesn't have a temperature sensor in the thermostat housing. so I guess I would just put a pipe plug in? where the temperature sensor would normally be to use the contour housing. and do everything else that you did on my install. I'm definitely on to get a contour housing and install it. do you plan on making another video in the future as an update on how your repair is holding up? thanks for showing us the most comprehensive video available. on how to do a permanent fix for this issue. and laying out all the parts required to do this repair. thanks again.
It is still holding up good no leaks at all.
if you have a standard focus 1999-2003, and dont use the temp sensor ports in the housing, there is available the RH-75 ... its identical material and design except the openings for the sensors are plugged becuz its for the standard zetec cars not svt.. available on ebay for abt 35.00
I had a 2001 Focus SVT a long time ago. The problem was the o-rings on the thermostat. Ford uses cheap ones that get worn out quickly so if you swap them with better quality ones the leaks will stop.
Where do you get the better ones?
Did they have another housing for contour RH76 no longer available
I did not realize they discontinued it. I checked around and yeah looks like everyone is out of stock on it. Take a look at this I wonder if this work the same www.ebay.com/itm/263895590145?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=7jahU-vvQV-&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=hVuTgxfcTUC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
That little plunger like thing failed on 03 svt too it’s leaking bad Is it gonna hurt anything if I get a new one without that?
My 1973 just started leaking. I was changing the oil and saw coolant on the transmission.
Where are the part numbers? Sure seems odd they are different. O like my SVT though
Will these parts work on a 2003 ford focus se 2.0 DOHC Zetec?
Yes it will work
yes, i've actually gone a different route myself with an aluminum contour housing (last of its kind or atleast hard to find housing).
@@sixxgunz3774 ended up buying both and returning the aluminum. The cheap plastic one has been fine for 3 months so far.
Hi Blue Collar Garage,
So i've been having an high oil/coolant temp issue on my SVT. I have changed the thermostat/housing/coolant temp sensor and i'm still having the same issue. Any thoughts?
I was having the same issue but it was mainly my oil temp rising. Found out my electric cooling fan wasn’t always kicking on. I ended up replacing them and while I was in there I figured I’d replace the radiator as well. That fixed my issue so not sure if it was one or the others or a combination of both. I did a video so if you decide to go that route th-cam.com/video/K10pMEGQD6o/w-d-xo.html hopefully this helps you out.
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Thanks for the reply! I pulled the relay connector and it was melted much like in your video. Ordered a new assembly to swap in and i'll be back on the road. Thanks again!
@@troyjohnson2627 your welcome. Glad you figured it out.
I nerd to do a 450 mile drive nect week. Hope it mskes it.
Did the part hold up over time? I've got a leak in my '03 ztw and wouldn't mind applying your fix if it is permanent. Great video!
Yep no leaks holding up just fine. Wish I would have done this when I first bought the car 3 years ago.
Aw shoot. Amazon doesnt hsve the housing.
