I was diggin how you were going after future structure with your pruning, Xin. Looked great. You don’t need luck for the winter, so I’ll get an early wish for a great spring in here.
Pruning of the Ficus looking good. Toughing up the trees outdoors. Just what I do also. Nice storage in the garage. They will have a nice long winter sleep.
I heard the UK is having some warm weather, one of the members of the KW club is in the UK. I don’t think you get cold temperature like here but any warm days is to be treasured in the winter 👍🙏
Hiya Xin. Nice work on your Ficus, I agreed with all your thoughts especially not to repot, I think I’ve killed my Ficus fusion project by repotting it a few weeks ago!! Garage looking great, best wishes for a successful experiment. God bless you 🙏✝️ ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️ 🎸!
You could try to chop and grow this one to get nice taper fast, since it's growing so vigorously each year in the ground. How tall do you want this to be as a bonsai? Is that a plastic pallet you are using as an outdoor bonsai bench? What about the smaller plastic tables next to it? I was thinking of getting some plastic pallets to redo my rotten benches. Are you happy with it?
I think I will do a chop a year from now. Let it thicken up next season then chop. Not sure how tall yet but definitely thick lol the bigger lower bench is made of 2 plastic pallets. I leave them outside and they seem to be fine. The smaller taller bench is a patio table hahaha Plastic don’t rot so that’s good I guess, I only used it for 1.5 years but so far so good, no complaints 👍
Nice work Xin. After a few years of growing it out How large do you envision the final bonsai to be? Garage setup looks good. Good luck with your winter. Thanks, keep growing
for the very bottom branches , are you planning to remove them eventually or you will keep them as part of the style? I am always scared to leave them on my trees other than one tree I have that I am experimenting with , because I feel like when the trunk thickens it will appear too short and then I will want to remove these branches but they will leave nasty scars.
Sorry, saw this a bit late. Currently I will leave them on to thicken up the trunk but I think they will eventually be removed. This ficus has fairly large leave so the end tree would most likely be taller than now or about where it is now. In either case, the bottom branches will need to go. It will leave scars but they will eventually heal over. Maybe I will remove them earlier than later, another year or 2 maybe. These things grow so fast!
Your Ficus is looking good, it will have a nice weeping look to the branches as they grow longer. The garage looks nice and cozy!
Maybe a little bit warmer than I would like hahaha thanks Nigel
Always good to experiment. That is how we learn. Cool video.
Yep, I really hope they will root 🙏🤞

Thanks Billy, my only goal for now is to grow it thick and then we will see where the chop need to happen haha
Nice shape to your Ficus Xin. Well done. 👍👍
Thanks Guy, cheers 👍🙏

Thanks Gaye, I really hope the JM cuttings root with this method. I have had zero luck rooting JM cuttings so far lol 👍
Tricky customers, hence seed n layer propagation which you’re already skilled at ✌️

Well, the bonsai itself might not be too tall, maybe just a little bit taller than now but I want the tree to be thick lol
