It isn't as scary as you think. Just keep a winding rod inserted at all times.

As long as you don’t put your face in front of your winding bars as you wind the door you won’t have a problem. I know a guy who had is for head split open because he winded his springs directly in front of his face. It isn’t dangerous if you do it right
