I was just thinking a few days ago that they should add variants to wolves(at least when you tame them) like they did with cats! I also wouldn't mind if this was a lead in to them separating Dogs from Wolves like they did with Cats and Ocelots.
They said they are taking their time to add Hardcore to make sure it works properly, the reason likely being that they want to fix these random and sometimes instant deaths

For those wondering, the difference between the old growth spruce and pine biomes are the inclusion of the short topped trees found in the old growth pines. In the spruce version the trees will always have long tops.
I love that some of the variants represent real life animals. The badlands one looks like Hyenas and the sparce jungle like Lobos Guarás (Maned wolves)
Hyenas are far more closely related to cats than they are to dogs so its unlikely that they are based of that, but Mojang might have messed up on this so idk
The Sparse Jungle one doesn't look like a Maned Wolf (which are not actually wolves at all) those have black legs and a black nape of the neck EDIT: You could suggest they add those features to the appearance
They've done this before, expand on a section of the game based on the result of the mob vote. Along with the "snowier snow" mountain biomes that the community voted for, we also got a complete terrain generation overhaul. with the glow squid, we got glowing item frames
You know what I think, I think the massive backlash caused Microsoft to take their hands off and said "don't go too crazy but get our reputation back up"
@@EmperorPenguin1217 not every biome vote became as consequential as the mountain did though. Taiga didn't cause groundbreaking(heh) changes . Swamp lost but when they brought those features for 1.19, once again, nothing on the scale of 1.18 which sort of ended up being the result of a lot of happy accidents. Cave update + winning Mountains turned into terrain changes but they just decided to rewrite the whole terrain system instead of tweaking mountain heights and adding snowier snow and stuff.
I feel like this is proof that a small feature is all an update needs to make or break it for a lot of people. Realistically this is much smaller than adding the cherry grove biome but the reaction is 10fold in comparison.
People were really hyped about the cherry too, but I agree some small changes, even if they don't fit the theme of the update, can really warm people to it. I personally would love some attention to paintings, the oldest feature they for some reason refuse to touch. Making it not random to place, so if you want a 2x2 you place multiple frames for example, and maybe changing the art using dyes. More designs too, imagine every update gets 3 new paintings or so that fits the theme, it's literally a small png.
@@rafael_lana Changing the size is easy by restricting the biggest size you can get with two blocks on the corners, and there are a lot of texture packs for paintings, there's even a website which creates a custom painting texture pack for you with just drag and drop the pictures you want in the right size painting... So a very easy fix with a bit of initiative.
mojang should add a super rare event where a zombie spawns with a tamed wolf. like it was pet before its owner was zombified but still protects its master

I hope you find one and get plenty of joy from taming it and exploring your Minecraft world with it. My dog, a boxer/black lab mix, passed away in 2022 after 13 years together. My friend made a custom texture to put him in our Minecraft server and then used a command to make him immortal and unable to take damage. I take him everywhere with me-on boating expeditions, on caving trips, etc. Even though it’s just a game, it feels good to have him by my side as a loyal companion.
I LOVE the new textures, but i think it'd be increadible if mojang did what they did with the cats, and add a poll or smth for a community wolf varient
I like how the community banded together and made Mojang start working on concerns made for a long time. I hope they continue and finish the backlog of suggestions and promises they made a long time ago because this update is sizeable compared to the recent updates.
I don't think people realise how HUGE custom components in crafting recipes is. For years we've had to create stupid work around to craft custom items (dropper crafting, throwing on floor/crafting table, etc), even despite support for custom recipes being in the game for years. These new components are starting to show promise, but there's still a way to go in terms of making the change worthwhile (I know some people are talking about 4,000+ command blocks that need to be re-written to use these new item components in a single custom map alone)
Absolutely! I'm currently working on a datapack that uses 8 decorated pots surrounding a cauldron as a custom crafting grid (with an end crystal above the cauldron, since it's an entity that can be targeted by commands but also generally aligns to the block grid). I'll still need my custom crafter for now, since it needs to copy some NBT/component data from the ingredients into the outputs... but this is a huge step in the right direction for fully integrated custom crafting!
I am so hype for these changes! Mojang is making data packs way more powerful. Someday we might be able actually add new items to the game using data/resource packs. Maybe blocks and mobs too!
im wondering if another big reason for this shift to components (besides the obvious reasons and mojang wanting it all to be snake code) is a possible introduction to moveable tile entities. if 1.20.5 introduced a reformatted nbt data, maybe 1.21 will introduce new component-related mechanisms
@@robblly8112That's nice to think about, but I don't see any connection. In my understanding, the reason there's no movable block entities in Java is because block entities are stored in a map separately from the block. They're stored by position, so moving the block would require the block entity to change its position, which would require the entire map to be re-sorted, which is slow. At least, that's my understanding of it. So they'd need to fully refactor how they store the list of block entities; which is unconnected to the item component system.

@@theworthysoul well to be fair, mojang can be spared in terms of innaccuracy here in my opinion, as were talking reskins of a mob that is called a "wolf" then when you feed it a few (or even sometimes just one) bones, it becomes completely tamed and is now called a "dog". As well you can tame ocelots in the same way, and unless im mistaken doing so results in it becoming a "cat" and completely changing its fur pattern. There isnt really a sense of realism in minecraft, and the firefly thing was the only time i can think of where they tried to make it realistic, maybe also the whole parrot + cookies thing but they didnt make that as an excuse to remove either from the game so idk. My guess for why fireflies werent added was that, much like the glow squid, it wouldnt actually be able to glow, except it likely also wouldnt drop anything either, and they probably wanted to avoid another glow squid disaster, then just played it off with the excuse "fireflies are poisonous to some frogs." But with the possibility of a glow squid dynamic lighting system, perhaps we may see the return of the firefly? Im probably getting my hopes up, but theyve done nothing but listen to the community for the past month-ish, so maybe itll happen who knows.
I know quite a few people were talking about the glow squid thing and the “top physicists are investigating how that could happen” line as a way to suspect dynamic lights are coming, however in my personal opinion I think it was a tongue in cheek joke about “oh, that’s not how glowing things work in real life!” Community may be reading into it a bit too much, tho would be happy to be proven otherwise. (And yes I know it can already be done with mods)
tbf stuff like dynamic lighting is straight up tickling the game engine. It's like adding another layer below a Jenga tower. Most newest feature are new content that barely affects how the engine works. World gen is out of that since we can even customize it with datapacks. This is probably just "gLow sQuid cAn hyPoNotize" thingy. Hopefully we're wrong tho
I'm happy wolves are getting a makeover like cats did. Personal favorite being the Striped Wolf, because I absolutely adore the African wild dog, which is what it reminds me of heavily.

Or go for a different pun, phrase, or idiom. “Every dog has its day” or “Dog days”, “Hairs of the dog”, “Everyone and their Dog”. Or merge the cat achievement with a new dog achievement and have it be “Raining cats and dogs”
I adore the wolves (want a rusty one myself), and this video is actually the one to teach me that the eyes on the wolves change once tamed. I guess it's not as immediately obvious on the pale wolf due to being white, but it stands out on the darker variants quite a bit.
This is making me feel like making a resource pack just to limit that...average between the two textures or something. It's really stark on the variants, even if it is "cute".

I’ve been playing this game for about nine years, and for all nine years what I’ve wanted more than anything else was more dog varieties. I mean, cats had three versions for ages and then got even more, but our poor, sweet, loyal buddies that DONT purposefully lock our chests with their fat, entitled rears have only ever had one. You can really tell mojang is full of cat people.

i absolutely adore the new wolves, they're much more realistic and you can instantly tell their irl inspirations/counterparts (like the striped and spotted ones being awfully similar to african wild and painted dogs) it's always annoyed me that the wolves were light grey/white because the only wolves that can naturally be white irl are *arctic* wolves (not counting when grey wolves get super old and grow lighter ends over time) makes me very happy
There are also some other subspecies which can be white, though what is group forms a subspecies often gets redefined. But yeah I love that they are using this to incorporate a bunch of canids (and one feliform) into the game. Also the Rusty wolf I am certain is based off of the dhole. It hunts in a variety of habitats but I believe is the only canine to hunt in tropical rainforests. They are known for whistling which is believed to enable them to be successful in the jungle because they whistle when they hunt to keep track of where the other pack members are despite the thick foliage. I hope we get insight into what animals they used for inspiration for each of these, I want to be proven right! lol
Honestly this is what we need! If Mojang want to back-pedal on the heavy development, an update where they add variants to every mob in the game, either via texture or also additional gameplay elements (such as the bogged being a poisonous-arrow shooting skeleton) would be a fantastic step in the right direction. Seeing 8 new wolf skins is like discovering 8 new mobs, which keeps the game fresh and exciting! Good job Mojang!☺
I don't think they would do this... I _always_ see people complaining about mob variants every time they add one (apparently its "lazy" or "uninteresting") even though we LITERALLY ASKED FOR THIS. People complained when they added the Bogged too.

@@REDZYDyeah, like if they stopped updating they would still make a ton of money from bedrock edition. They really don’t need to put any effort in at all, and people were complaining a ton about that and now they’re doing a ton of cool stuff and everyone still complains!
The new wolf textures are soooo fantastic! This is the type of super easy addition Mojang needs to implement for all the mobs. Such a simple thing as texture and skin variety enriches the experience so much and gives the mobs such unique character, just like with horses players begin to value them and grow attached to them for their unique skins. Amazing work, Mojang, please consider adding a greater variety of skins to all the mobs!
A good texture designer can come up with a bunch of these in a weekend. Give them a couple weeks and they could reskin all of the game’s mobs several times over.@@sethsmith2608
I was thinking that it'd be cool if the Polar Bear was given some texture variants, so you could have brown bears in Taigas and stuff. Could have variant Creepers for different biomes too, like a sand coloured one to blend in with deserts, and an orange-brown on for Mesas.
Now maybe they can add to the wold AI a bit by making them howl, like raise their head up and produce a new howl sound file, maybe have that whenever there's a full moon. idk if it already exists, but also maybe a command to change moon phase and modify mob spawning at night depending on the moon phase (full moon=brighter=less spawning, and vice-versa).
I’m pretty sure the full moon has an effect on mob spawning already (think more mobs spawn with armour or pumpkins or smth) so it wouldn’t be too difficult to add in a feature of wolves howling
This, this is how you make a reason for travel! I don't need any special variant of the doggos, but now the option is there and I will try and find them all! Unlike the villager thing that forces me to travel to get the enchantment books I need.

This one's a little closer to a color-morph Black: This could really be anything (melanistic color-morph) Woods: Eurasia Wolf Ashen: Timber Wolf
Yes! Now they just need to add more textures for ALL mobs. Like the data pack “creature variety” by “DraminOver” does. Adds over 2500+ new default like Minecraft texture packs. I HIGHLY recommend it.
Im very happy to see diversity in wolf variants. They fit much better to their respective biomes and I wish more animal-mobs had the same sort of biome variety.
I'm loving this update! It's good to see an old mob get some love. One little quality of life update I wish that Mojang would make now that they're updating the wolves is to make them a little bit quieter. I love having a doggy companion (or ten) in Minecraft, but boy do they bark a lot! And it can get old after a while. It'd be nice if they toned it down a bit. All the tamable companion mobs are pretty loud for that matter. So it'd be nice if they did the same with cats and parrots.
Biome exclusive mob variants are such a simple way to make biomes feel different and I hope we get more for different mobs. Foxes? Chickens? Cows? Pigs?
I kinda want to do a similar thing to scar but with wolves. Id love to memorialize our dog rocky in the game he may have been a tiny chihuahua but he was ours for 14 years

Could you perhaps make a small follow-up vid where you show off the new wolves' aggressive expressions? Perhaps by making a fenced off area with the wolves on one side, and some sheep on the other?

Im loving the wolf variants! Its always bothered me mobs (specifically the older ones) look the same no matter where they spawn, so I’m hoping this is an indicator other mobs might get this same treatment in the future. Personally I’d love to see highland cow variants for mountains
I love the variants of wolf. But I really hate it when some people just say: "iT iS JuSt sOMe uSeLEss wOLf sKin tHAt gIVes nO beNEfiTs" like bro, it's sole purpose is to bring diversity to the game. Do you expect each wolf variant need to have some kind of buff? I remember seeing a guy complaining about the hanging sign back in 2022. He said the hanging sign "is useless because we already have normal sign", as if the sole purpose of the hanging sign isn't for decoration only.

The striped wolf reminds me of striped hyenas, which I love because they are one of my favorite animals. Of course hyenas aren't wolfs (or even closely related to them, they are actually more closely related to cats), but it's the closest we have now!

31st of April, 2011!! I played Minecraft when Wolves were added and now finally wolves have new variants which I've waited for so long 😊 my fav is the black wolf.
Custom crafting is amazing. That means that all the custom hats you use on Hermitcraft (derived from the carved pumpkins) can now be obtained via crafting (and crafters!), no anvil naming or other shenanigans required!
Omg it has finally happened!! I wanted this so badly when I was a kid. I like how badlands are basically Coyotes, and Savana are African Wild dogs but just called wolves still lol
I love how they are all inspired by actual Wolf/Canine breeds! Have to say I’m privy to the spotted dogs as the African wild dog is definitely one of my favorite Canines out there!
I think I most want the Ashen dog. Reminds me of a husky. Though I also like the Rusty and Woods wolves. And I'll probably want a Chestnut one too because it looks the closest to a German shepherd, and by brother in law used to have this one German shepherd that was super sweet and very protective of everyone in my family (dog was dumb as a brick, but very very loving). It's nice to see dogs finally get the variation treatment that cats got so long ago. They were overdo for that kind of love (and I say this as someone who's much more of a cat person than a dog person).
I wont believe dynamic lighting is coning until i see them announce it. As is, its already a smidge jank even with mods and isnt the most performance friendly thing. Its clearly more than possible, but i think mojang wants it to be perfect before they put it in vanilla. They just havent gotten there yet, and probably dont have it as a high priority because the game isnt really built around that (see: light levels controlling mob spawns)

Idea: if you breed two different variants you get another variant or you get a new variant only attainable with breeding, for example if you breed an ashen with a snowy wolf you get a husky wolf variant,
The wolf variants are awesome. You got really sleek gray, white, black and red ones as well as some really cool patterned ones. There isn't anything that even feels missing. I think it's about time Minecraft had more coat variation with some of their mobs. Horses and Rabbits have had this for awhile. The farm animals should also probably be updated with varied skins.
I love the new wolf variants! I do wonder however does this mean wolves are bound by cat or frog breeding mechanics? Like, if you breed a black wolf and a pale wolf in a Savannah biome, are you going to get one of it's parents colors, or is there a chance of a spotted one? Either way it would encourage more exploring for sure as I definitely want them all lol
I feel it's an incredible addition to minecraft to not only include new mob variants, but to also give them uniqueness by different spawning rules. Not only have they added in new wolf variations but they fit into the biomes they've chosen. Nice to have a new thing to make you want to go out and explore and collect
It is *_SO_* nice to see that Mojang seems to really be listening to the community again! We've been asking for wolf variants for forever!🤩🐺 I also really like that they seem to be based on real world canids; the spotted variant looks like a painted dog, the stripped one looks like a hyena, and I think there was one that looked like a jackle even. Now all that's left are pigs and chickens.
I have been wanting different textures on wolves for a long time. I am happy they finally did it. The last thing I wish they would do with this update is to make the dog armour usable with our pet cats as well
Beta 1.5 since wolves were added. Wolves are probably the reason that mods gained popularity, since their addition inspired the better than wolves mod, which was like create mod for the time. Im sure that a lot of modders and players were inspired by that mod
It's actually a bit interesting cause the spotted wolf is clearly modled after an African Wild Dog, while the Stripped Wolf is actually an Aardwolf which is a type of hyena, and not a canine.
I am so glad to see new wolves being added to the game. Mojang has hit on something really nuanced that the community has been asking for for quite some time: Meaningful reasons to go to other biomes. Of course there are blocks to grab and SOME biome-specific structures, but adding cosmetic reasons like the armor trims, villager trades, and now unique wolves, introduces a "Catch 'em all" aspect to the game that significantly extends gameplay time for completionists. I do still wish they would give some old and unloved structures a facelift (*cough* Jungle temple please *cough*), and give something to the biomes that don't have any meaningful/story/progression reason to visit (like the vacant-as-heck badlands), but, baby steps.
I ... was happy to catch 2 wild wolves for my zoo. This means I get to make a new bigger enclosure for them and catch all the other colors. I am very happy they keep their look when tamed, that makes it easier to catch 'm all
Wow, they finally did it. When I saw the thumbnail in my notifications, I was happily surprised. This is literally the whole reason why the Armadillo was voted to win (tho i still hate the Voting thing, just add it all into the game please). The Minecraft Wolf/Dog can now be more than just a different colored collar. Thanks Mojang. 🙏
Just started working on a new series and instantly found a new puppo! I'm super excited. It came to mind though, that swamp biomes definitely need their own type of 'bad' mobs. They definitely need to m a ke the biome more alive, besides frogs.
The next layer of progression after tools and armor: Accessories: It Increases player’s stats like hit points, block reach, jump height, inventory slots… . An Additional heart icons will appear for the player. Accessories are crafted with blocks of ore (blocks of diamond, iron…) and unique loot from epic dungeons. They have levels just like tools and armor according to the ore it’s made of, just like armor and tools. They are spread through the dimension they are useful for, for example to craft the one who extends block reach, one should go to caves(trail chambers), adding inventory slots -> the end, adding breath points/bubbles oceans and adding hit points/hearts -> warden dimension… .

People were really hyped about the cherry too, but I agree some small changes, even if they don't fit the theme of the update, can really warm people to it. I personally would love some attention to paintings, the oldest feature they for some reason refuse to touch. Making it not random to place, so if you want a 2x2 you place multiple frames for example, and maybe changing the art using dyes. More designs too, imagine every update gets 3 new paintings or so that fits the theme, it's literally a small png.

Changing the size is easy by restricting the biggest size you can get with two blocks on the corners, and there are a lot of texture packs for paintings, there's even a website which creates a custom painting texture pack for you with just drag and drop the pictures you want in the right size painting...
So a very easy fix with a bit of initiative.

My friend made a custom texture to put him in our Minecraft server and then used a command to make him immortal and unable to take damage. I take him everywhere with me-on boating expeditions, on caving trips, etc. Even though it’s just a game, it feels good to have him by my side as a loyal companion.

I like how the community banded together and made Mojang start working on concerns made for a long time. I hope they continue and finish the backlog of suggestions and promises they made a long time ago because this update is sizeable compared to the recent updates.
I don't think people realise how HUGE custom components in crafting recipes is. For years we've had to create stupid work around to craft custom items (dropper crafting, throwing on floor/crafting table, etc), even despite support for custom recipes being in the game for years. These new components are starting to show promise, but there's still a way to go in terms of making the change worthwhile (I know some people are talking about 4,000+ command blocks that need to be re-written to use these new item components in a single custom map alone)
Absolutely! I'm currently working on a datapack that uses 8 decorated pots surrounding a cauldron as a custom crafting grid (with an end crystal above the cauldron, since it's an entity that can be targeted by commands but also generally aligns to the block grid).
I'll still need my custom crafter for now, since it needs to copy some NBT/component data from the ingredients into the outputs... but this is a huge step in the right direction for fully integrated custom crafting!
I am so hype for these changes! Mojang is making data packs way more powerful. Someday we might be able actually add new items to the game using data/resource packs. Maybe blocks and mobs too!

In my understanding, the reason there's no movable block entities in Java is because block entities are stored in a map separately from the block. They're stored by position, so moving the block would require the block entity to change its position, which would require the entire map to be re-sorted, which is slow.
At least, that's my understanding of it. So they'd need to fully refactor how they store the list of block entities; which is unconnected to the item component system.

@@theworthysoul well to be fair, mojang can be spared in terms of innaccuracy here in my opinion, as were talking reskins of a mob that is called a "wolf" then when you feed it a few (or even sometimes just one) bones, it becomes completely tamed and is now called a "dog". As well you can tame ocelots in the same way, and unless im mistaken doing so results in it becoming a "cat" and completely changing its fur pattern. There isnt really a sense of realism in minecraft, and the firefly thing was the only time i can think of where they tried to make it realistic, maybe also the whole parrot + cookies thing but they didnt make that as an excuse to remove either from the game so idk. My guess for why fireflies werent added was that, much like the glow squid, it wouldnt actually be able to glow, except it likely also wouldnt drop anything either, and they probably wanted to avoid another glow squid disaster, then just played it off with the excuse "fireflies are poisonous to some frogs." But with the possibility of a glow squid dynamic lighting system, perhaps we may see the return of the firefly? Im probably getting my hopes up, but theyve done nothing but listen to the community for the past month-ish, so maybe itll happen who knows.
I know quite a few people were talking about the glow squid thing and the “top physicists are investigating how that could happen” line as a way to suspect dynamic lights are coming, however in my personal opinion I think it was a tongue in cheek joke about “oh, that’s not how glowing things work in real life!” Community may be reading into it a bit too much, tho would be happy to be proven otherwise. (And yes I know it can already be done with mods)

tbf stuff like dynamic lighting is straight up tickling the game engine. It's like adding another layer below a Jenga tower. Most newest feature are new content that barely affects how the engine works. World gen is out of that since we can even customize it with datapacks.

I adore the wolves (want a rusty one myself), and this video is actually the one to teach me that the eyes on the wolves change once tamed. I guess it's not as immediately obvious on the pale wolf due to being white, but it stands out on the darker variants quite a bit.
This is making me feel like making a resource pack just to limit that...average between the two textures or something. It's really stark on the variants, even if it is "cute".

I’ve been playing this game for about nine years, and for all nine years what I’ve wanted more than anything else was more dog varieties. I mean, cats had three versions for ages and then got even more, but our poor, sweet, loyal buddies that DONT purposefully lock our chests with their fat, entitled rears have only ever had one. You can really tell mojang is full of cat people.

i absolutely adore the new wolves, they're much more realistic and you can instantly tell their irl inspirations/counterparts (like the striped and spotted ones being awfully similar to african wild and painted dogs)
it's always annoyed me that the wolves were light grey/white because the only wolves that can naturally be white irl are *arctic* wolves (not counting when grey wolves get super old and grow lighter ends over time)

There are also some other subspecies which can be white, though what is group forms a subspecies often gets redefined. But yeah I love that they are using this to incorporate a bunch of canids (and one feliform) into the game. Also the Rusty wolf I am certain is based off of the dhole. It hunts in a variety of habitats but I believe is the only canine to hunt in tropical rainforests. They are known for whistling which is believed to enable them to be successful in the jungle because they whistle when they hunt to keep track of where the other pack members are despite the thick foliage.
I hope we get insight into what animals they used for inspiration for each of these, I want to be proven right! lol
Honestly this is what we need! If Mojang want to back-pedal on the heavy development, an update where they add variants to every mob in the game, either via texture or also additional gameplay elements (such as the bogged being a poisonous-arrow shooting skeleton) would be a fantastic step in the right direction. Seeing 8 new wolf skins is like discovering 8 new mobs, which keeps the game fresh and exciting! Good job Mojang!☺

The new wolf textures are soooo fantastic! This is the type of super easy addition Mojang needs to implement for all the mobs. Such a simple thing as texture and skin variety enriches the experience so much and gives the mobs such unique character, just like with horses players begin to value them and grow attached to them for their unique skins. Amazing work, Mojang, please consider adding a greater variety of skins to all the mobs!

I was thinking that it'd be cool if the Polar Bear was given some texture variants, so you could have brown bears in Taigas and stuff. Could have variant Creepers for different biomes too, like a sand coloured one to blend in with deserts, and an orange-brown on for Mesas.

The Ahsen is my favorite, it resembles the arctic wolves people use Irl, also the husky which is my favorite breed of dog.

Now maybe they can add to the wold AI a bit by making them howl, like raise their head up and produce a new howl sound file, maybe have that whenever there's a full moon. idk if it already exists, but also maybe a command to change moon phase and modify mob spawning at night depending on the moon phase (full moon=brighter=less spawning, and vice-versa).
I’m pretty sure the full moon has an effect on mob spawning already (think more mobs spawn with armour or pumpkins or smth) so it wouldn’t be too difficult to add in a feature of wolves howling

Im very happy to see diversity in wolf variants. They fit much better to their respective biomes and I wish more animal-mobs had the same sort of biome variety.
I'm loving this update! It's good to see an old mob get some love. One little quality of life update I wish that Mojang would make now that they're updating the wolves is to make them a little bit quieter. I love having a doggy companion (or ten) in Minecraft, but boy do they bark a lot! And it can get old after a while. It'd be nice if they toned it down a bit. All the tamable companion mobs are pretty loud for that matter. So it'd be nice if they did the same with cats and parrots.

The striped wolf reminds me of striped hyenas, which I love because they are one of my favorite animals. Of course hyenas aren't wolfs (or even closely related to them, they are actually more closely related to cats), but it's the closest we have now!

31st of April, 2011!! I played Minecraft when Wolves were added and now finally wolves have new variants which I've waited for so long 😊 my fav is the black wolf.
Custom crafting is amazing. That means that all the custom hats you use on Hermitcraft (derived from the carved pumpkins) can now be obtained via crafting (and crafters!), no anvil naming or other shenanigans required!
Omg it has finally happened!! I wanted this so badly when I was a kid. I like how badlands are basically Coyotes, and Savana are African Wild dogs but just called wolves still lol

I think I most want the Ashen dog. Reminds me of a husky. Though I also like the Rusty and Woods wolves. And I'll probably want a Chestnut one too because it looks the closest to a German shepherd, and by brother in law used to have this one German shepherd that was super sweet and very protective of everyone in my family (dog was dumb as a brick, but very very loving). It's nice to see dogs finally get the variation treatment that cats got so long ago. They were overdo for that kind of love (and I say this as someone who's much more of a cat person than a dog person).
I wont believe dynamic lighting is coning until i see them announce it.
As is, its already a smidge jank even with mods and isnt the most performance friendly thing. Its clearly more than possible, but i think mojang wants it to be perfect before they put it in vanilla. They just havent gotten there yet, and probably dont have it as a high priority because the game isnt really built around that (see: light levels controlling mob spawns)

The gene that causes a black coat in wolves was introduced via interbreeding with domestic dogs! The addition of black wolves just feels right to me.
What a brilliant and low maintenance/cost way to add some wildlife variety to the different biomes. This was a fantastic idea on the devs part
Idea: if you breed two different variants you get another variant or you get a new variant only attainable with breeding, for example if you breed an ashen with a snowy wolf you get a husky wolf variant,
As someone who loves having wolves, the new changes are INCREDIBLY exciting!!!
The wolf variants are awesome. You got really sleek gray, white, black and red ones as well as some really cool patterned ones. There isn't anything that even feels missing. I think it's about time Minecraft had more coat variation with some of their mobs. Horses and Rabbits have had this for awhile. The farm animals should also probably be updated with varied skins.

I love the new wolf variants! I do wonder however does this mean wolves are bound by cat or frog breeding mechanics? Like, if you breed a black wolf and a pale wolf in a Savannah biome, are you going to get one of it's parents colors, or is there a chance of a spotted one?

I also really like that they seem to be based on real world canids; the spotted variant looks like a painted dog, the stripped one looks like a hyena, and I think there was one that looked like a jackle even.

Beta 1.5 since wolves were added. Wolves are probably the reason that mods gained popularity, since their addition inspired the better than wolves mod, which was like create mod for the time. Im sure that a lot of modders and players were inspired by that mod
NBT Crafting is such a big change for datapacks, this is fantastic! Imagine the possibilities with CustomModelData!
It's actually a bit interesting cause the spotted wolf is clearly modled after an African Wild Dog, while the Stripped Wolf is actually an Aardwolf which is a type of hyena, and not a canine.
All of these are awesome! I gotta say I love the Spotted variant the most, African wild dogs are just so cool.

I am so glad to see new wolves being added to the game. Mojang has hit on something really nuanced that the community has been asking for for quite some time: Meaningful reasons to go to other biomes. Of course there are blocks to grab and SOME biome-specific structures, but adding cosmetic reasons like the armor trims, villager trades, and now unique wolves, introduces a "Catch 'em all" aspect to the game that significantly extends gameplay time for completionists.
I do still wish they would give some old and unloved structures a facelift (*cough* Jungle temple please *cough*), and give something to the biomes that don't have any meaningful/story/progression reason to visit (like the vacant-as-heck badlands), but, baby steps.

Just started working on a new series and instantly found a new puppo! I'm super excited. It came to mind though, that swamp biomes definitely need their own type of 'bad' mobs. They definitely need to m a ke the biome more alive, besides frogs.

It Increases player’s stats like hit points, block reach, jump height, inventory slots… . An Additional heart icons will appear for the player.
Accessories are crafted with blocks of ore (blocks of diamond, iron…) and unique loot from epic dungeons.
They have levels just like tools and armor according to the ore it’s made of, just like armor and tools.
They are spread through the dimension they are useful for, for example to craft the one who extends block reach, one should go to caves(trail chambers), adding inventory slots -> the end, adding breath points/bubbles oceans and adding hit points/hearts -> warden dimension… .
I’ve been wanting different wolf variants since I was like 12 and now I’m 23, I’m so hyped ! 😭
