I am a black citizen of the United States but I lived in Italy from May 1982 - June 1984 when I was a member of the United States Air Force stationed at Aviano Italy. I lived in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy and traveled extensively all over that region plus I traveled to many other Italian regions. During my travels in Italy, I was surprised to see people who looked like me but were Italian. That is what brought me to your video. I wanted to learn more about the African Diaspora in Italy. In spite of being a short video, I learned a great deal from you. I studied American History in college so I know about the African Diaspora in the Americas but I know little about the African Diaspora in the rest of the world. I am looking forward to seeing your other videos.

I just want to thank you for updating the historical knowledge that I should have had from grade school thru six years of college. Now that I'm a grandfather, I have started searching for suitable educational material to facilitate homeschooling. Your presentation and style is a perfect vehicle to model. What you have done is priceless. I would like to introduce you to my "Queen", Dr.Arikana Chihombori-Quao, former UN Ambassador to the African Union. She is on a mission to reach out to the African diaspora in order to facilitate making the continent of Africa great again. She has established an organization, A.D.D.I.org. With you and people like your could rapidly accomplish that mission which starts by educating and motivating diaspora to realize the benefit.

@Salvatore Beneventi I’m not saying all bc no not all Sicilians are. However, there is evidence that some are but don’t want to admit it or don’t know about it. You act like West Africans didn’t get scattered around the Earth. And not just that, they actually ruled Europe at one point as well. My ancestors were from Palermo and were there for many generations. And yes my ancestors from my grandfathers side many years ago were black. It’s not impossible.

Correction: Ethiopia is the only country in Africa that was never colonized! it was defeated at the Battle of Adwa in 1896! Historically significant as the only time that a European would-be colonizer was defeated in its attempt to do so. Italy tried again and did occupy Ethiopia from 1936-1941 but was driven out when Haile Selassie, emperor of Ethiopia appealed to the League of Nations and was able to drive Mussolini's. army out of the country.

A very good video, I wish you had mentioned that during the Scramble for Africa (1881 -1914), Ethiopia successfully thwarted Italian attempts at colonialization at the Battle of Adwa on March 1, 1896. Italy did occupy Ethiopia from 1936 -1941, but the Battle of Adwa was a monumental event that prevented Italian colonization of Ethiopia.

Ethiopians was savages. Fully dedicated to enslaving africans and to slave trade. Not to mention that to carry out such practice they had to invade their neighboorhoods like the Tigrines that we Italians have helped by forging for them a country of their own.
The Eritrean founding father was an Italian Ascaro, colonial trooper.
Those people was beloved in Italy.
When the fascist arrived in Ethiopia, they immediately quitted slave trade. That was the point the ethiopians considered "crossing the line" and started the real rebellion against us.
Their rebels was used to mutilate our troops both Italians and especially the Acricans. They even took scalpos from both soldiers and civilians. And do not forget the rapings of civilian women and childrens.
One can argue that fascists was bad, sure, it is true. But Ethiopians wasn't better.
If you use them as symbol of African freedom, one day your childrens will be ashamed by your decisions as much as the Americans and European have already experienced.

I'm labeled an African-American (a label I despise because it's 2 continents, not an ethnicity nor identify my true ethnicity, just identifies locations my ancestors have been in), who descend from the enslaved brought to America. Did a DNA test recently with CRI genetics & results show 27.1% Italy. Don't know how cause I'm 100% certain I'm 85 to 90% Negro & African (yes, that's 2 different Black bloodline, ones Semite the other is, well, African), some Indigenous North & South American & Indigenous Australia, various Indigenous tribes in India & only a total of 9% European like 1% Ashkenazi, Russia, Japan & Chinese, Irish combined..
Best I can guess about that 27.1% Italy DNA in me came from those Moors who once ruled Italy who undoubtedly have the same DNA as those North African & those people taken into slavery, those Semites.

Ethiopia was not colonized by Italy. In fact, Ethiopia successfully defeated Italian colonizers twice.
Battle of Adwa (1896): This was a significant victory where Ethiopian forces, led by Emperor Menelik II, defeated the Italian army, securing Ethiopia’s independence and making it a symbol of anti-colonial resistance.
Second Italo-Ethiopian War (1935-1941): Although Italy initially occupied Ethiopia, the Ethiopian resistance, along with Allied forces during World War II, eventually expelled the Italians, restoring Ethiopia’s sovereignty.
These victories are celebrated as major milestones in Ethiopia’s history and its fight against colonialism.

I am new to the history of this era having just been exposed to Carthage in Tunisia. When you mention African rulers you seem to equate "black" with African. Isn't there a distinction between Northern Africans who are Egyptian and Arab and black Africans? Just by looking at skin color and facial features, a very superficial distinction, humans have classified races maybe inappropriately. I would like to learn more about North African history and what separates these peoples from those of the rest of the continent.

Hello...just want take to some time to make my opinions to your posting...North Africa was colonized by Greece and Rome. Many of the peoples in that area's may have been called African but were of Mediterranean/Semitic decent. Carthage and Phoenicians are their decedents. Lets get it right!!! Same for the Generals or Emperors you elude to are not of Black African decent. Severus was not of sub-Saharan or Black African decent. Its so evident. ....Why do you keep saying this??? ( look at there busts or the other Roman Figures.. st .Benedict was not a Moor but a came from an African Slave family.........what books are you reading???????? Sorry for my tone. Please refer to the coinage, frescos, Art and Figures in those times...all Caucasian/Mediterranean looking people....

The Punic peoples of Carthage were originally Phoenician, but the Native North Africans, the Amazigh are NOT semitic people and their languages are not part of the Semitic brach of Afro-Asiatic. Amazigh are just as African as Congolese. Africa is a continent of great linguistic, cultural and physical diversity. Even Sub Saharan Africans show a great range of diversity in skin tones, facial structures and body types. You get the San and Khoi people, many of whom are are light as the Rifis you find in the Atlas to the darkest of the dark brown in parts of Senegal, they are all African. As for the term Moor, look up the history of the word. It's meaning and connotation has changed depending on geographic location and time period. In some places and times it was referred to Muslims in general. At other times, North Africans in general, regardless of skin tone and at other times, it was applied to Africans in general. This is why it was customary to play the role of the Moor Othelo in black face until recent times in the Opera.

@@manitheman0806 There have been invasions, colonizations and migrations, that is true. But before all these people came, the Amazigh were there. When those people left, the Amazigh were still there. The Vandals came in the Middle Ages, but to very specific areas, not all of it. The Arabs came and left their language. The majority of people we call Arabs there are ARABIZED Amazigh. They are still Africans because they never left. When you listen to their music, when you look at the way they dance, when you look at their folk spiritual traditions, that exist parallel to Islam, you are looking at another part of the African World. They are Africans and just because they may not look like what some European scholars may think an African should look like doesn't change this fact. There are many ways to be African and many ways to look African. The Amazigh are Africans. Just as the fact that I have Jewish, European, Native American etc ancestry doesn't change the fact that I am predominantly of African ancestry and thus still part of the African extended family, so too are they, who never left Africa still children of Africa as well.

Cartaginians didn't fought the Roman Empire.
There was no "empire" at the time.
Actually even most of Italy wasn't fully under direct control of Rome, they ruled over an alliance of Italian city-states and allies.
And Rome was a republic at the time.
So no, no Roman empire at the time of Carthage.
