0:36 - 0:47 I love this part. Luffy's movements at that moment, it's as if he had difficulty to moving in his body which becomes as flexible as that of a Toon. It's a very stupid detail but strangely realistic. I adore.

Its probably more than toon flexibility, its that his body has true ''freedom'' now. No longer restricted by the stuff it usually is. Even his heart is completely insane and yet free. The toon flexibility is just a way it shows itself. Even in his other forms part of that freedom showed itself, like being able to do stuff that makes no sense for just rubber.
It almost looks like he's dancing even. The kind of dancing you do to celebrate. The kind you do when you're drunken boxing. Luffy is fueled by pure giddiness incarnate.
I saw it as his heart beating in such a way that it's literally throwing him around like a ragdoll. The Drums of Liberation are supposed to represent his heartbeat after all
That’s why during Luccis fight when he activate gear 5. His chest was expanding and contracting, it was getting his body ready for the toon force. I thinks that’s why it’s a transformation as well, because no body not even base Luffy included could handle the amount of freedom that is nika without literally becoming Nika.

My favorite part about Luffy’s Gears is that they’re not some ultimate empowerment but instead completely change the way he fights by focusing on a specific aspect in his power set

I never actually picked up that, thats pretty smart. Although if argue gear 4 utilises haki, devil fruit and speed all in one, depending on whether its snake man or bounce man

@@helpme9746 I really think gear 4 is mainly focussed on busoshoku haki. Luffy basically hardens his rubber into the rubber in tires, which changes the nature of his body.
He cracked the heavens on his own. It needed him and Kaido to crack the cloudy sky like Roger and Whitebeard. Nika is ridiculously strong 😅

I love these episodes so much. I expected Gear 5 for months even before I knew what One Piece really was but now that I've finally caught up it's perfect. I got no chills watching this, and didn't shed a tear. I just laughed like I was watching an old Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes episode. I haven't laughed like a dumb kid in ages and that's exactly what Gear 5th is all about

That's what Luffy fights for. Freedom, laughter. Tbh that thought makes me cry, that's the epitome of what the aftermath of a fight (or on a grander scale, war) should be like. With singing, dancing and smiles on everyone's faces.

I think the Gears were just Oda's way of hinting that Luffy's devil fruit wasn't a paramecia but a Zoan, cause Zoan devil fruit users typically known for having three forms, basic, beast and hybrid form, Chopper having more than seven or eight if I recall correctly. Luffy's is just four different styles of combat. ODA doing such mind-blowing story telling as always.
Luffy definitely did liberate a lot of people he came across and befriended them. Even his crew. Warrior of liberation 👏👏

For such a popular shonen, and compared to Naruto Shippuden, fights are fuc*in’ important, as is their evolution. Right now I feel like Oda should stop, but it's been 25 years, yep, for sure… At some point; whether it's Dragon Ball Super or OP, there's a time to stop and make way for the next gen. Kishimoto has been trying to do this (not necessarily always very well) since Boruto. The simple fact that the graphics, sound effects, chara-design and fights are the same today as they were in the first fight with Arlong is a real rip-off in OP. Seriously.

The Gum-Gum Fruit, from what I can tell, is like a fragment of the Toon Force. You eat it, you gain the powers of the Toon Force on a scale isolated to your body, but you reach Gear 5, and you can affect the world itself. Gear 5 makes you, essentially, a god of fun and freedom.

@@kagato23 not necessearly, filling his bones with air is the same principle of a truck tire, it increases mass and builds up pressure increasing overall mass and making him bigger and dense while his normal muscles and skin remain rubbery and flexible to prevent popping and exponentially increase his durability gear 3 is actually very well thought out.
@@dreamer1292 inflating rubber does not increase its density. Over inflating a tire makes it less durable. And yet Luffys inflated body parts act like density has increased.
Luffy having a zoan explains a lot when it comes to his endurance, which zoans are known to enhance like crazy.
Honestly I can see why this is his strongest because it allows him to fight the exact way he wants to fight and has been which is stretching in different ways this form allows him to do more by affecting the surrounding environment

@@foodmr2022 The things that sold gear 5 to me are the fact that his heart plays the drums of liberation everytime he is in G5( so people literally listen to boss music when he transforms) and the fact that he is always happy and smiling really encorporates what one piece as a show really is.
