Great list but i think when you talk about shows that ushered in the golden age then you must include The West Wing which started the same year as the Sopranos and most importantly 6 Feet Under (a couple of years later but another true game changer). I think The X Files has to be there too, and later additions would include Firefly & the sublime Ozark
Hannibal the tv series is A must watch as a psych thriller. Smartest most elegant show I’ve seen in a while. It’s truly superb really smart show for a change and nothing beats the atmosphere they made. I learned more from that show than 3 years of psychology studies
It is so underrated. I get so angry when people say Game of thrones is better or that little shit Tyrion is better written than Lecter. Hannibal is better than Game of thrones and that’s not up to opinion, it’s fact. Hannibal is the greatest villain ever created
@Culturally Right Economically Left How💀 it is so underrated you probably don’t like it just because of the fans being obsessed with Mads and Hugh grow up
@Culturally Right Economically Left The main reason people don’t like it because they think the effects are cheap, it's mostly talking and it's complicated. I have autism and enjoyed every second of it, I hate shows which focus on the action too much because action can also get boring after a while. I don’t like game of thrones because the action is flashy and hard to look at, and it's too much sex and it tires to make dwarfs look stronger than normal sized men, why can’t we all just be equal

Pretty insane that so many people won’t watch the best show ever because it’s an anime. Even though it has none of the stuff that anime gets stereotyped for
It's definitely one of the most popular shows ever but doesn't get a lot of high love when compared to the other shows everyone loves It's definitely top 10 imo
I'm pretty picky, but from this list Atlanta is decent. I haven't seen the latest season, but the 3rd was not the greatest. Ozark is one of the most overrated shows (not a well written show, all of the narratives are extremely forced, nothing in that show is earned... it's the extremely retarded step child of Breaking Bad, but really has no business being in the same sentence as BB, other than it's a show that tries to copy certain aspects of BB). I may try and give Billions another shot. The stuff with the wife is a bit corny for me and astronomically convenient and gave me the vibe of old network television the way they work in the characters (they could probably film it in front of a live studio audience). The idea that this big US attorney's wife plays this make believe position of employee psychiatrist of this business guru who he's fighting against.... it's one of the corniest scenarios I've witnessed in tv before .... it's difficult to go from 5 degrees of make believe to, now over here we're trying to go for some realism. Maybe the show turns out ok (one of my friends really likes it), but this was one of the corniest obstacles a show has ever challenged me to get beyond before and it's too much and it's likely a sign of more to come.

@@ExNihilo634 Youre the only person Ive ever heard describe Game of Thrones final season as "perfect". Yeah plus art is subjective (before anyone tries to come for me it's okay to disagree) Different stories appeal to different people and I do find it elitist to belittle someone for their taste in art
Great selections. It's so tough to make a definitive list like this because it's all so subjective, but everything on the list that I've seen I would also put in my personal list of "best shows ever." I'd without a doubt add "Six Feet Under," and "Arrested Development." And hey, while we're at it, let's add "The Simpsons" to the list also. Although I suppose that show is its own very special, unique entity.
I was reluctant to watch Shitz Creek, I thought it would be stupid but it was pretty funny after watching so many detective series. Get through the first episode and you will binge-watch it. If you want something serious then Yellowstone is definitely in my top three favorites. Really don't understand why it doesn't get much publicity (Kevin Costner)
in reference to the simpsons... at least the way my brain works for a best of shows list. Shows that don't continue from episode to episode aren't even in the discussion of best of lists and anytime I see a list were someone includes that type of show it confuses me. It's nice to see that Dexter is put on this list. Anymore it's often left off these lists, but it very much deserves to be on any best of tv list. Even if you dislike certain seasons or how it ended, there's enough quality content in there to easily put it among the best tv shows of all time. I put a bad Dexter season above most other shows, including most other good shows.
Also, it's a bit of cliche... there are many people who say the first 4 seasons are the best... I'm not sure if it's a regurgitation effect or perhaps the Dexter story begins to get repetitive and old for some or many viewers (it never did for me), but as someone who's watched the series over 10 times around. The 5th and the 7th season are also excellent Dexter seasons and there's nothing wrong with the 6th season... it's still a very good season just a tad below the excellent category of the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th seasons. I have nothing against the 3rd season as it's still a very good Dexter season and i thoroughly enjoy the Miguel Prado/Dexter storyline, but pretty much every other storyline outside of that tends to be the weakest storylines of the entire series (and the show really blows it's load in the second season, leaving what seems to be little left going forward but the show manages to still continue putting out great content, it just lulls a bit in the 3rd season), The 8th season unfortunately was a back to back season (only time they did that), so it was rushed and sloppy and they've since admitted that they ran out of time for the ending (that's Showtime for you... Showtime notoriously botches up their endings, because they give no leeway and have no flexibility), but in my opinion the 8th season had the perfect storylines/draft, but it needed the usual off time to clean up/iron out... I still found the 8th season entertaining and suspenseful, just sloppy and the ending is unfortunate... that is until they did the new blood reboot, which makes the first ending look like a masterpiece. Don't buy into the first 4 seasons nonsense, it's simply not true. The only way it's true is if the Dexter story has gotten old for you at that point, but the material is certainly not weaker than the first 4 seasons. And the only reason why someone would deem the 3rd season better than the 5th 7th and possibly even the 6th is the Dexter story is still new and fresh and by the time you get to the back half of the seasons you're bored with the Dexter idea. Overall you have 96 Dexter episodes (not including New Blood) which is a gargantuan series length, so even if for whatever reason it stops being your thing at some point, ther's enough high quality content to put in amongst the all time greats. I consider it a top 10 all time show and perhaps with my bias I put it in the top 5.
@@pablohanc - I really liked the 5th season even more on a rewatch. First time around it was my least favorite season, but after a rewatch I realized I was wrong and I let my irritation underrate the season). If you haven't watched Dexter in a while, I challenge you to go back and rewatch the 6th and 7th season (especially the 7th season). I'd be shocked if you didn't change your mind. The 7th season is one of the best seasons. Even if the twist in the 6th season didn't work for you... many people have this weird attitude to where they say I figured out the twist therefore I hated the season, whereas the show didn't care if the audience figured out the twist, because the point was to watch it from the perspective of Dexter not knowing the twist. It's still very much an entertaining season and has some of the most creative kills. Also the theme bad guys in Dexter end up only making up 1/3rd of the entire season. While I still very much love the 4th season, the Trinity stuff only makes up a third of that season and the early stuff with Trinity isn't anything spectacular.... the season has some of the weaker side stories. People overrate that season because it ends on such an epic note. still love the season, but it's the most overrated season of Dexter. I really disliked Sons of Anarchy. I got half way through the first season when I came to the conclusion that the writing was exceptionally forced/weak.It felt very 80's sitcomish. With the wacky sheriff and a group of characters who are somehow intertwined at every turn... almost like they were filming it in front of a live studio audience, etc. I hate to even use Breaking Bad in the same sentence, but I only bring it up because it establishes the meth/illegal world in a plausible/created/supported way. Everything in Sons of Anarchy is forced and not created, nor plausible on even a semi real level, similar to Ozark, but even Ozark isn't slumming on the level of Sons of Anarchy.
@@LibertyRapsher there's not a hope in hell of me ever revisiting Dexter, especially the last 2 seasons. There's too much good tv out there for me to waste my time watching something poor that I've already seen (6 & 7). Dexter and sons of anarchy shouldn't be mentioned in the same paragraph as breaking bad or Ozark, they are both far superior.
@@pablohanc Dexter is so much better than Sons of Anarchy. I have Dexter in my top 5 shows of all time list. A bad season of Dexter is still better than 99% of the shows in my opinion. Dexter also has a whopping 96 episodes. Showtime has a tendency to screw up all of their shows final seasons/endings, because they meddle and they don't allow their shows any time flexibility, which most shows need in their final season (HBO is the ideal network for flexibility and minimal meddling). I'm a picky bastard when it comes to shows. Very few shows I end up really liking, so the handful of shows that I consider great like Dexter I prefer to revisit, since I don't consider there to be that much great TV out there right now. Severance may be the only show that is currently running that I really dig. White Lotus is pretty decent. There's a few current shows that I consider decent. Excellent list! I’d probably add HBO’s “ROME” to the list. I’m so glad that you added Deadwood because it’s criminally underrated.
I was going to suggest Rome, but you saved me the trouble. Outstanding show!
Deadwood is my favorite show of All Time, I never get tired of watching it
Can someone explain how one manages to watch Deadwood without getting bored? Genuinely asking bc I like the show and the dialogue but I always seem to just stop watching 8 or so episodes in

I’d put breaking bad and succession higher up. Also ‘Dark’ is a masterpiece and by far the best Netflix original, in my opinion
This wasn't a numerical list. No hierarchy, just a pool of 35
I definitely agree on Dark
You can't rank these shpws also there wasn't any order.
Dark season 2 episode 6 is the best hour of television ever.
Dark is a masterpiece - and Atlanta!
Must watch - Banshee
So god damn underrated
Hannibal the tv series is A must watch as a psych thriller. Smartest most elegant show I’ve seen in a while. It’s truly superb really smart show for a change and nothing beats the atmosphere they made. I learned more from that show than 3 years of psychology studies
It is so underrated. I get so angry when people say Game of thrones is better or that little shit Tyrion is better written than Lecter. Hannibal is better than Game of thrones and that’s not up to opinion, it’s fact. Hannibal is the greatest villain ever created
I don't know how it can be so underrated. After Breaking Bad, I'd say is the best show I've watched.
Season 3 though 🤢

Supernatural from 1-5 was godly then it just faded and faded and till 12 it was so boring that I left it and never completed it
I'm pretty picky, but from this list Atlanta is decent.
Snowfall is Goated, one of the best for sure. My personal favourite.

Yeah plus art is subjective (before anyone tries to come for me it's okay to disagree) Different stories appeal to different people and I do find it elitist to belittle someone for their taste in art
You have got to check out a brilliant Australian drama called "Mr Inbetween" - 3 seasons starting in 2019
Great selections.
I would add curb your enthusiasm to this list Larry David is amazing and I think it's even better than sienfield ..
I’m with you.
@@LibertyRapsher 5th season was good as well. Then, it jumped the shark almost as badly as sons of anarchy.
I just watched The End of the Fucking World which was surprisingly good, but was unfortuantely only 2 short seasons.
Babylon 5 should be included in any list of best TV ever.

@A Alm I chose not to include the other netflix MCU shows just because I picked the best 2 but yes other than luke cage they are all worth watching.
I only know of absentia and showpiercer the movie, there is a theory that showpiercer is a dark sequel to Charlie and the chocolate factory

That’s my 10th fav shows!! It’s amazing!!
It was cancelled tho not worth watching
@@vincentvandeperre1670 So? It ended on a very nice note and technically it's being continued on Disney+. Though I have 0 faith in that
@@TommFoolery not really they where in the middle of allot of stuff. I really liked the show but all those tv shows getting cancelled before they are obviously done like daredevil, colony, wayward pines, and so many others makes me really not intrested anymore in american and britisch tv.
G.o.t, Chernobyl, fargo, Sherlock, breaking bad, hannibal, narcos, better call saul, peaky blinders. I've watched these shows from this list and they are all amazing
I would add 3 more to this list
Banshee

@@albertcoppola9287 i think not
Sadly
Banshee is badass
A very good list. One series that I never saw mentioned among the greatest ever tv shows is "Lie to me", I really loved it and think it belongs among the best. It's very original and very well performed. Black Mirror is original and great too. And The Walking dead belongs among the best as well.
Other series that are borderline best-ever are : Ozark, Stranger things, Mr Robot, and maybe Barry (probably not good enough to get up there)
I've recently acquired Lie To Me one-three...while good, not great

@@raymondsims7042 It is next to impossible to do a top ten tv show list....Mine? 1-Twilight Zone Rod Serling greatest tv writer who ever lived... 2-Hill St Blues It was a grand canyon jump to what had gone before 3-Mary Tyler Moore Every episode was classic 4-Orig Star Trek Gene Roddenberry 2nd best Tv writer all time (also head writer Have Gun Will Travel just missed this list) 5-Gunsmoke Consistently greatest western all time 20+ years which is impossible 6-Columbo needs no introduction 7-Frank's Place Tim Reid's magnificent ode to New Orleans criminally unavail on DVD or anywhere 8-Meeting Of Minds by Steve Allen also criminally unavail (6 episodes on youtube check them out they are a masterpiece) 9-The 60's-70's great lawyer shows like Judd For the Defense/Owen Marshall/Bold Ones/Defenders/The Senator with Hal Holbrook Yes I'm cheating but these are relevant and great featuring Leslie Neilson/the magnificent but underrated Hari Rhodes check him out in 1972's Conquest Planet Apes 10-Monty Python which became popular by audience demand ... Notable actors I have to mention LNimoy as Spock (also a murderer in Columbo) Ivan Dixon just brilliant in TwiZone's "I am the night Color me Black" memorable episode...William Windom who NEVER gave an average performance (Star Trek/Gunsmoke/Columbo/Banacek/Judd Defense and the impossible to find MY World and Welcome to it...John McIvor also fits this category..Roddy McDowell... Just missing this list ... Tom Chapin's Make A Wisht...RBoon'es Have Gun Will Travel...I Spy...Dragnet...and the Completely Terrific Barbara Barrie (Barney Miller/Naked City/Hitchcock Presents) The single greatest TV episode I've ever seen is Barrie in a 1964 Hitchcock Hour episode called Consider Her Ways just an unbelievably great, relevant sci Fi what If story from John Wyndham's 1956 book of sci fi stories...I'm trying to order it now...Stephen King called Wyndham Britain's greatest SciFi writer...
I like a lot of modern stuff but it needs to pass the test of time...
I can't believe Handmaid's Tale isn't on this list!
Landed here after I've decided I have to broaden the range of TV series I watch but I have a problem to start something new. For now Hannibal is the best series for me and I know that it will for sure be hard to beat this because it is just a work of art.
The Handmaid's Tale should be in such a list.
🤷 : Possibly
nahh so depressing that is
Half of these are really good. The other half I would exchange with the absolutely brilliant: Alias, The Bridge, Borgen, The Killing - both the American and Dahish versions, The Night Manager, West Wing, House of Cards U.K. version - it´s much shorter and much more sinister and chilling, Veep - can watch it over and over , it´s so funny and clever, and even funnier a cleverer is Yes, Minister and Yes Prime Minister. And last but not least The Professionals. I know all episodes by heart but it´s always worth watching.
I think Mr Robot should make this list, it's well written, well produced and consistent throughout all the seasons
Mr robot is the third best show I’ve ever seen🤷♂️so yeah it should’ve definitely made the list
@@raymondsims7042top 5?
@@raymondsims7042I’d say 1. Shameless, 2 breaking bad, 3 the bear,
The walking dead 4, and 5 ozark
@@raymondsims7042 hmmm I don’t think I’ve watched that many full series 😂😂😂. Ima try your list. If u haven’t seen the bear I highly recommend it tho
I will add Tyrant, Animal kingdom(US version), Rome, Homeland,Spartacus.
Sanford and Son is my favorite TV show of all time. But nothing beats the heart-pounding excitement of March Madness, I'd rather watch that on TV more than anything else.
They just don't make shows like that any more. It was one of my favorites also. :)
My favorites:
Oz (HBO).
Spartacus.
Sons of Anarchy.
TMNT (80s).
Tmnt 87 is such a nostalgic masterpiece definitely one of the best and Oz is on my watchlist
Here are my favorites not present in the list :
Trémé (10/10)
My Name Is Earl (10/10)
The Killing (US) (10/10) (2 first seasons are incredible, 3d season is really nice to finish develeop the main characters but not as deep)
Columbo (9/10) - first seasons
The Prisonner (8/10)
Homeland (8/10)
Ash vs Evil Dead (8/10)
Luke Cage (really surprised by the quality of this marvel one compared to the others, quite amazing) (8/10)
Last Man on Earth (7/10)
Downton Abbey (7/10)
Carnival (so much regrest it didn't continue the only season) (8/10)
“Justified” was the best series on this list!
avatar: the last airbender??
Hannibal was the peak of tv evolution for me. It‘s maddening but it’s ruined me for every other tv show.
I am still pissed that show got cancelled
Excellent list - but other missed 'Orphan Black' 'Life on Mars' 'Stranger Things' 'For All Mankind' & 'His Dark Materials'
A Great list! I’d add Downton Abby to the list.
