I met the real Rudy while I was in College back in the 90's not long after this movie came out. He came and talked to us about his life and this movie. During that afternoon he visited campus and quite a few of us got to speak with him. Very inspiring guy, he reminded me a lot of my dad. What they didn't hit on too much in this movie was his time in the navy prior to this chapter in life. I related to him, I'm definitely not the smartest, most athletic, etc....but I put my heart into everything that I do. THAT's what my takeaway was from this movie, and from meeting the man himself.
This story is not really about Football, or even Notre Dame, it's about life. The true message of this film is to never give up on your dreams in life, whether it's being a Football Player, a Fighter Pilot, an Actor, Singer, Doctor, Soldier, Cop whatever you dream of being... Never give up on your dreams even if people around you, even family don't believe in you and what you can do... The film tells you to believe in yourself, and fight with all your heart, body and mind for what you want; And if you want it bad enough, if you work hard enough, and never give up, all dreams come true even if they may seem impossible to others... THAT is the message of this film.

I'm a Varsity football player. I've been on the bench for as long as I can remember and now I'm finally getting my shot at safety. I'm a junior in high school and has been playing since 7th grade. I feel so much like Rudy and I'm so excited that I'm finally getting a shot
+MrCOD Keep at it, man. I played freshman ball and barely saw any playing time but in the offseason my coach saw that I worked hard and allowed me to work out with the varsity. But by then I was over it, and just wanted out. I didn't have that passion you do, and I often wonder what would have happened if I'd have just kept working. Don't make the same mistake I did. Pulling for you. Go get 'em.
I did too i didn't start or get any real playing time until my senior year my coach said he want giving me anything free I had to earn a starting position and I did and I earned the most improved player award and my coach said I came along way
I'm almost 39 years old 11 years ago I had a a dream I'm a Special Olympics athlete My dream was to attend both the World and national games I'm a competive swimmer and my dream was to be a gold medalist in a world games and win a medal at the national games and promote And allow people with disabilities to compete in USA swimming my life now has changed so much now because of Rudy I've accomplished those goals and I'm gonna continue to premote the sport of swimming I still watch Notre dame athletics with basketball going on 16 years with men's basketball life is pretty good Rudy taught me having dreams is what makes life tolerable love this movie

This tryout scene makes me remember a story my Dad told me once about big time college football...My Dad played QB in H.S. in Kent Ohio in the late 40's and he said one of his friends played RB and was by far the best kid on the team...he ended up walking on at Ohio State but didn't last long, he came home a few weeks later and told my Dad he quit the team after about two or three practices...he said he ran a sweep and made it to the corner and thought he was going to make a long run when someone came out of nowhere and hit him so hard his teeth hurt...he told my Dad he thought he was going to die he got hit so hard....he knew then he wasn't cut out for bigtime football.

I went in the store to get a drink and there he was promoting his own sports drink. I was in amazement some of the stuff he said so motivational and inspirational. He said wow how far did you run? I told him and he said back to me, "Keep the Rocky music in your head." I said, "Sir how did you know I am a Rocky fan?" He said, "Wild guess plus you're not wearing ear phones for music." I couldn't believe it well I did what he said and still going strong. What a motivational guy he is!
Ed Straub he was convicted of stock fraud for the pump and dump of his “sports drink” Lot of people got hurt. They had invested in the stock because of the movie
All about the ND bands, hundreds of people in the band. It reminds of the North End feasts in Boston. They went into Regina Pizza one year and the band was very loud. But during August there’s bands all over the North End. This year they got cancelled though.
Practice Squad. He only dressed for the game because his teammates liked his "heart" his name was never on the Roster. Practice Squad IS part of the Team so I guess in that regard, your correct.

We used to do that during two-a-day practices without pads, and we'd do them with full pads too. We called the monkey rolls. It's a great agility drill.

My best friends dad played for notre dame the same time Rudy was there, and according to him they took A LOT of artistic license with this movie lol
My husband played in the game #64, he told me the only thing true in the movie was his Rudy’s name. Good Hollywood story though

Oh they did, but he did work hard and he earned his spot. The movie does dramatize it a bit, but it is still an amazingly inspirational story.
