Rudy is an inspiration to us all. He found One-Eyed Willie's treasure, helped destroy The One Ring, and made the Notre Dame football team with nothing but determination and hard work. What can't this man do?

I saw this in the theater when it came out. I was 18 yrs old. I managed enough courage at the time when everyone started chanting "Rudy Rudy" to grab my date's hand and hold it throughout the movie. We're still married, nearly 30 yrs later. This movie holds a special place in my heart.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the Hollywood version did not match the real story. I read an article about this many years ago. Joe Montana and other former teammates were critical of the movie, saying some of it was just not true, while some of it was just overdone. Movies are never accurate. They are an artist's vision of real life events that takes those events into the realm of myth. Sorry dudes! But I admit, I cried too, when I watched it many years ago.

Rudy Ruettiger stands for all the chaps short of money standing there alone. Giving the one opportunity and grabbing it. He is the soldier to carry on. Which is special. Give it for Rudy. Always felt that way even before the truth about this film and Rudy's later criminal history came up. Lets glorify a self serving individual rather than someone who gives effort fot someone else. And his character keeps the whole story grounded. He constantly brings Rudy the dreamer back down to earth and prevents the movie from running off the rails into sappy sentimentalism.
"You just got a full year of top-quality education. Don't be wasting my time"
"Oh, you are so full of crap."

As incredible and inspiring as this scene is, it's the music by the late, great Jerry Goldsmith that makes it even more poignant! Every time I hear that theme, I get goosebumps!
Fun fact: On the liner notes of the soundtrack CD, Rudy's family were in attendance when the score for this scene was completed, and when it was over, the entire symphony stood up and applauded Mr. Goldsmith, and to a person, everyone in Rudy's family were in tears!
