E3 was the fucking best. Who cares if it was cringey at times. That was part of the charm. Summer gaming news has just never been the same... One big event with multiple showcases from different publishers in a day in big theaters and stuff, demos on the floor...AH. It was the BEST. Fuck...
I know this is not the channel, but Fatal Fury characters in Street Fighter is genuinely a miracle and I love letter to arcade culture and the fighting game community. I am satisfied with show from that alone

@@spacelion4763Sprite Animation is GODLY so I can understand, it's timeless and I find myself regularly revisiting Darkstalkers and 3rd Strike.
But I loved SF4s design it was far better than the look of SF5 to me it was a step down. And SF6, Tekken 7,8, Guilty Gear Strive, Samurai Showdown (Reboot) all look good.
@@spacelion4763It's for several reasons, the biggest being that it's prohibitively expensive and limiting. Look at Skullgirls and it's roster size, after a decade it has less characters than the average new fighting game because it costs so much to make a single one.
The second reason goes back to the 90's and the dawn of 3D graphics. When Virtua Fighter and Tekken came out the general audience started to believe that sprite based graphics were outdated. Everyone except for Capcom and SNK rushed to 3D after that. Eventually both companies experienced a downturn and by the time Street Fighter came back in 2008 the industry had moved on.
@@mbphilipblack8993 For whatever reason, I'm just not interested in any fighting game that doesn't have spritework. I love the old Fatal Fury games, King of Fighters games, Street Fighter games...even Samurai Shodown and The Last Blade II...Garou: Mark of the Wolves...
I'm not even really a fighting game fan but just love the look of the fighters and the animation and the backgrounds...there's just something about it
Matty saying the Playstation State of Play was "Solid" but this was a "Bummer" is so weird. The State of Play straight up had nothing while Summer Games Fest had a few big announcements and then a ton of interesting indie games. Not only are we in an indie game golden era, they can become household names if they are successful, Hollowknight for example.

Perfect proof that this “love” for AA games was always bs. People don’t want more AA titles. Never have. They are a niche for a reason. People want better AAA games. Or at least, that’s what the numbers say. The industry will correct itself once AI and game engines can automate majority of the work in a fraction of the time.

As it always has been this way at E3,.Take the show for what it is ,a collection of trailers trying to get on the radar in as short as time as possible.
it only sucks for those who feel they need to watch every Woke Corpo TM show. this way, you can just tune in and watch what you want. i skipped this showcase andlooks like i made the right call. i cant stomach watching 7 of these things. it was the same back with E3. i used to watch them all, but wished i only tuned in for 1 or 2.

I just can't fathom how someone could genuinely think that the PlayStation State of Play was "solid" and think the Summer Game Fest wasn't good. Was at Summer Games Fest on Saturday and was surprised when i went to IGN Live and it had triple the size of crowd attendance. Not only that, the enthusiasm of those in attendance was much higher. I also know a few journalists who left SGF early because IGN live was a better event.
If IGN can get more developers to show up and reveal new content then I think SGF could be in real trouble. As someone who has been to E3 in the past IGN live was a lot closer to what that was then what SGF has been lately. And this was IGNs first year doing this. Imagine what they could do if they put more money into it.
But yeah agreed 100% on Geoff being on a bad steak lately. The last Game Awards was embarrassingly bad and reached Spike TV levels of cringe. I feel like Geoff is really starting to alienate devs and viewers.

Exactly this. Geoff and Co. can't just make games/trailers appear out of thin air. He worked with what he had. In my eyes, I'm happy he's at least putting forth the effort to make this show/weekend exist for the gaming world.

You gotta be more open to early access if you want more experiences like BG3.
I mean Early Access only exists to make sure the game doesn’t come out glitched or buggy when the full and final form of the game is released. Sure the waiting is long, but the game developers are taking extra time to make sure the game is perfect to the causal and the rest of the gaming community. The last thing these developers need is a game that’s bugged and glitchy on release.

1: allows the devs to take their time (because they already have income coming in)
2: allows them to respond to feedback as they're developing vs doing it after release.
Those two things require a good number of people to buy the unfinished product AND enthusiastically play the unfinished product to provide feedback.
yea, I disagree with the "EA is bad" take. Lots of devs need the income to continue working, and use the time to get community feedback to have a successful game. There are tons of great EA to 1.0 game success stories.
The only game that I was excited to see was Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

It was opening night chill. I wouldn’t make any videos about summer game until you seen all of the shows. Specially, since the Xbox shows supposed to be awesome.
Can't say I was disappointed. Just the trailer of Terry and Mai getting added to SF was enough to make the show worth it. I also really liked the focus on indies. That new Power rangers game also looks like its gonna be a great time. Solid A+ for me
Yeah I liked the show overall. People keep expecting E3 even when they deliberately say to lower your expectations. I went into it expecting indie title showcases and that's what I got, and I left satisfied. The only thing I didn't like was ad placement

Here's the problem with that Arkham game being VR. Know what it has in common with the other two games you mentioned, Asgard's Wrath 2 and Assassin's Creed Nexus? Quest Exclusivity. I have a Valve Index headset. I can't play these games because I chose "the wrong headset". VR can't "turn the corner" if only one headset gets all of the games and the others are told to kick dirt.
These game showcases really give me a workout....of my index finger clicking the right arrow button to fast forward through most of the shows.
People never learn , how many years we have been watching showcase ? Don't expect AAA games EVERY minute or second for each annoncement.
Considering they are less and less AAA because it take time , video game future will mostly be indie games .

21:03 to be fair, Enotria: The Last Song's trailer was really only there to get some more eyes on the game and get people curious about the demo. Yea, they 100% could have included some gameplay but yea. They already shown gameplay a year ago at a different event, this was more so just more marketing.
As for the game itself, it's a really neat souls-like, the demo was a lot of fun.
Some indie titles are ok but I know I didnt spend nearly 600 dollars to play indie titles that could be played on a Nintendo. I bought a next-gen system for next gen games. Where are the next gen games???

First off, big props to Geoff for his statements at the beginning. pointing out these recent lay offs and shutdowns while also hyping up the indie scene was based.
As for the show itself: I agree more gameplay would've been far better. Though when it comes to The First Descendant, I think their focus there was simply to reveal that new trailer and that's it. This game has been in multiple public betas and has quite alot of coverage gameplay-wise. That trailer though was brand new and introduced a few new characters along with a nice focus on making the roster feel like an actual cohesive unit of "living" people chosen to be heroes. For those of us who already had interest in the game, the trailer was awesome. but as stated I do agree - there should've been some gameplay on the side for people who didn't have the game on their radar.
I think overall the gamefest was good due to its focus on smaller titles that really needed the spotlight. There's a couple I'm definitely gonna be picking up or at least keep an eye on. Geoff can't demand everyone make gameplay trailers - he's only there to broadcast what he's given. He did good, his people did good (definitely not as cringey as it has been lol) and hopefully...eventually....the corpos will realize gamers like to see *gameplay* at these shows.
But Matty, the important question is .... what do you rank it out of 10?
I think the issue is that the big games are always going to be kept back for their relevant publisher (Sony, Xbox, Ubisoft).
I think we need to set our expectations as this show is never going to reveal all these massive titles.

For me, this Event had my attention, but nothing really wowed me. I enjoyed what I saw about Metaphor, Slitterhead (though I admit it looks so dang rough and it worries me), Wukong, and a few other games, but nothing really jumped out at me. And I even avoided leaks and rumors like the plague to help with excitement better! I think this might be the last time I bother to catch this stuff live, aside from maybe the Game Awards Ig (unless they disappoint me again too), since that felt more like E3 than anything else.
It goes to show u people still want AAA games over AA games, but are just fed up with the lack of quality in AAA games.
The New World announcement for consoles was all I needed bro. I’ve been wanting that since 2021 when it came out. I’m hella excited.
Geoff had egg on his face in regards to the game awards. He knew he had to save face by spotlighting the indies games. Let’s see what he does with this year’s game awards for Indies game developers.
I came away with several titles i'm interested in and a few which I'd not seen before. In general its what I expected. Advertisements to keep the lights on, world premiere cg trailers, gameplay reveals and a great touch in highlighting indie devs. Its just a case of expectation management which Geoff set before the beginning.
I personally wasn't pleased with the AAA stuff in the showcase but yes it was awesome for the indies.

It was announced on the stream as a 'Free To Play' but a giant chunk of the game is held back by what they call a 'Legendary Statue' which in Canada you have to pay around $48. What pisses me off about this is that I went in on stream to play it and only found out this info once in game cause that small payment I mentioned is never talked about on the Steam page.
Unless you like this game from playing it from before i don't recommend it right now cause it kind of feels like a scam. If they forwarded any of the info in game on the store page I would have been more then fine with it.

I am a very patient Skate fan, but it has been 14 years since Skate 3 came out. I don’t care about clothing brands, board graphics, hair styles. I want to play a new Skate game before I’m 30. The last one came out when I was 11.
Power Rangers was the surprise of the show for me. There's even more to it than just being a beat-em-up!
So excited to see what they do with civ 7!
Biggest problem was that there was a very big lack of actual gameplay footage from the games. (especially considering most games were coming out this year). And on top of that im mindblown that the Lies of P DLC was not shown. Was very pissed off about that.
Sonys state of play was solid but this didn't do anything for you? Ok.
I think the reason for The Firsr Descendant trailer not having gameplay is because there was already a massive beta test for the game awhile back so everyone knows what the game looks and plays like prior to this trailer so this is just for hyping up the release more then showcasing the game.

Matty, Inside Out is actually one of the very best animated movies to come out in the last 20 years. It's extremely creative, funny from start to finish, and has a wonderful message that everyone can enjoy (not full of obvious politically-motivated messages). Seriously go check it out and get excited for the sequel!
After Love EP, Unknown Awakening, While Waiting, and Once Human are the few I’ll jump at. A lot of mid-to-uninteresting games there.
I went into the show with no expectations at all, and I enjoyed it. The big focus on indies and solo devs was what won me over. Also, why no mention of Day of the Devs, or the Devolver Direct?

The one thing I find a little sad about Metaphor is the Persona elements that are being removed such as Romance options, it would be amazing in a fantasy world to have the options of building up bonds and friendships up to a potential romance but that is a me thing I know that it isn't as big of a deal for everyone I really cannot wait for the game to come out though I just hope they dont keep things like that for future games especially for future Persona titles.
Really happy for the Power Rangers game cannot wait for that release or the new Harry Potter game. Kingdom come Delieverance 2 looks beautiful I really need to finish the first game so I can get ready properly for the new one however one thing that really annoys me is the news about the game being scaled back and made smaller from the original plans due to the Series S, I wish instead they skipped that model and just released on Series X.
I liked it. Was it kind of dull in spots? yea for sure. Lot of indies that I liked. New Metaphor trailer, Dragon Ball Striking Zero release date, Phantom Blade 0, Blumhouse horror games, Battle Aces RTS, and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the goddess. There were some others I really liked as well. It was too long for sure but if I come away from a showcase liking 10 or so games then it's a solid show I think. He can def improve with the ads and the pacing but competing with the big 3's own showcases to get stuff to show in his is tough and I think he did ok in doing so.

Personally, I think that Geoff could just take a backseat at this point -- at least with regards to SGF. He can continue his song and dance for the VGA stage. The Last Descendant already has a 1 hour gameplay video. The trailer got me hyped and I actually searched for more info of the game. Looks like Destiny, Anthem, warframe mix kind of game. If it's not as convoluted as Destiny I might actually check it out.
Killer Bean was really popular on the internet awhile back, I'm not really interested in a game about it, but the movie was cool I rewatched it recently.
Considering the climate, I think the showcase on indies was needed even if it made the show more boring. All these people who lost their jobs need to know that their passion projects can still live on, and that there's a future for them. I think 2 Studios were also announced for indies.
Microsoft's show is tmr and I feel like that will have all the big hits for the year that we've been looking for.
