Folk singers from my youth in the 60s, during the Vietnam era, when we were both protesting that war, as well as praying for our loved one's safe return home from it. I lost 2 dear fellas over there . . . my brother's best friend Pat, whom I also loved as my "second brother". The other young man was a neighborhood friend. 💔💔R.I.P. 💐
"Where Have All The Flowers Gone" - This was during the Vietnam war. - Peter Paul & Mary. - Songs from my youth. - 'Puff The Magic Dragon" - 'Leaving On A Jet Plane" - "Blowing In The Wind"
O when I was a lad now a great grandad we used to sing puff the magic dragon in music class many thanks my friend love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 some great songs 👍
But this song, written by Pete Seeger in 1955 and first done by the Kingston Trio, in in 1962, was BEFORE the Vietnam was ramped up into the big controversial mess it became. It really meant all wars not just Vietnam.
When my wife and I visited Hawaii years ago we met an old m an from a place called Vietnam and what he told us changed my mind out all those peace signs and stuff I did in the 1960's
Love this trio. They were an American folk group formed in 1961. They had a lot of great hits such as "Puff, The Magic Dragon", "Lemon Tree", "500 Miles", "If I Had A Hammer", "Leaving On A Jet Plane", "Day Is Done". They recorded quite a few of Bob Dylan's songs such as "Blowin' In The Wind", "The Times They Are a-Changin'", "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right", "When The Ship Comes In".
A song from my late teens and my time living in an old warehouse in the East Village in Manhattan, lots of memories brought back. This performance was many years after this song was popular
One of the more gentle, albeit powerful protest anthems of my generation. It was actually written in the 1950's but was given new life during the protest years of the 1960's when several people and groups performed it. I love this version by Peter, Paul and Mary, so beautifully and thoughtfully rendered. It obviously touched your heart as it did ours some 60 years ago. A lovely, heartfelt reaction Sarah. Cheers from Canada!
This is a later performance just before Mary was diagnosed with leukemia. They sang against ALL social injustice and for peace love and understanding, they were never about personal gain but about using music to transcend all divides/injustices right up until Mary passed Sept 16th 2009. Delve deeper you'll not regret it I promise
I got to see them do this live twice. 30 years ago when my daughter was 5 I took her to a PPM concert (a great evening together!). Sometime before that my wife and I saw them in concert. Beautiful. Nice job with this sad song, Sarah. Thank you.
Hi Sarah! "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" is a modern folk-style song, inspired lyrically by the traditional Cossak folk song "Koloda-Duda", Pete Seger borrowed an Irish melody and the first 3 verses in 1955. Pete, Paul and Mary included the song on their debut album (which spent 5 weeks as the No.1 album in the United States in 1962). Some other musicians who has recorded the song: "Vera Lynn", "Joan Baez" "Dolly Parton", "The Searchers", "Harry Belafonte" and "Marlene Dietrich" (performed the song in English, French and German). Pete, Paul and Mary have recorded so many amazing songs "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" is just one of them.
Impressive that you made it through without tears, I didn't 😭 I spent time in Vietnam, (U.S. Navy), it was an abomination. I learned at my young age that some things can not be forgotten, you have to learn to live with memories. I also learned to ask, "when will we ever learn?" This was special, Sarah, thank you. Songs like this and Bob Dylan's "Blowing In The Wind" go hand in hand. Stay well 🌹🙂😇
One of my favorites by this wonderful trio! Thank you Sarah for doing this. 500 Miles, Leaving On A Jet Plane and Puff The Magic Dragon and all wonderful.
Watching this with you brought all the power of this song for me. This concert from 1986 set me on a 30 year love affair with Peter Paul and Mary. Watching how the song affected you...was so moving. Watch the while concert....Peter Paul and Mary 25th Anniversary Concert.....you'll never be the same.
Another song came out during the Vietnam war Across the Nation protesters sing this song every college campuses you could hear that it playing . ✌ peace and love Sarah.
Thank you for your videos. I've known this song so long that I no longer hear the words, until someone like you puts it in front of me and I hear them again fresh and new. Heartrending.
This particular video of their performing the song was a great suggestion and I have not seen this video before. Many of us were in the peace movement in those days and I did see Peter, Paul and Mary in concert. They were such beautiful folksingers. Mary Travers had a clear and resonant voice. Two other outstanding folksingers with beautul voices in the peace movement were Joan Baez and Buffy Sainte-Marie.
Sarah, this has always been a tough song for me to get through. I have put it off but finally joined you. 500 miles is another one by this trio that gets me every time. Thanks Sarah. ☮
Brought tears to my eyes and always relevant.A hymn for peace . When we look at the enthusiasm and blood lust of our 'leaders ' for more war in Ukraine .....and Occupied Palestine,There is the answer to the line in the song..
I loved all their hits when I was a kid, this is one of the most famous, but there’s also Lemon Tree, and Stewball, and I Dig Rock ‘n’ Roll Music, Yellow Bird, This Land is Your Land, If I Had a Hammer, Early Morning Rain, oh, there’s so many! Their harmonies really set them apart.
Many thanks my friend another great olden Goldie such a beautiful song one for your list Gary Moore the Messiah will come again this will blow your mind it's a joy watching your channel grow and thank you for all the hard work you do making the videos love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
Sarah, in memory of David Crosby whose life ended today, maybe you could do Crosby Stills and Nash, "Teach Your Children"? I know you liked Suite Judy Blue Eyes. R.I.P. to another landmark of music 😥🌹🕊️
The music from this time was amazing
I was blessed to live at this time.❤

I'm going to cry before I hit play. I've played this live, and it always tears me up.

Awesome song! But they will never learn! Stay safe young lady!

Thanks for this one.
A beautiful reaction to a beautiful song by a beautiful lady.
I remember singing this in church in the late 60's.
Such meaning and beauty. This performance brings me to tears.
Wow your reaction is so incredibly beautiful. You get it.
It was wonderful watching your sweet reaction, Sarah. It is indeed a powerful song.
Love your new shorter haircut. ❤️😉

We sang this song in elementary school back in the 60s along with "Blowin' In The Wind" and others.

My old time favorite

Frankly, I don't know how they can get through the first verse without crying. I know I can't and its 2024.

👍👍👍👍👍 an oldie but good
Thank you for this beautiful reaction.
They marched WITH Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and performed at his famous "I have a dream" speech.
So powerful, when will we ever learn!
It was Inspired lyrically by the traditional Cossack folk song "Koloda-Duda.

almost forgotten band with fantastic songs like PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON
Know history, the good and the bad, so that we can learn from it and not keep repeating the bad, like war after war.
The Kingston Trio sings the best version. 😉👍
Sarah, listen to them sing Blowing in the Wind, and If I Had a Hammer.
In the morning by the Bee Gees or twelve thirty by The Mamas and Papas are definitely worth a listen amazing harmonies!!
When will humans learn, sadly never! Great song though, and timeless!
One of the saddest songs
Sad beautiful song 💗
No words
Such a fine but tragic song. Stay safe. ❤ Stay free girl! Greetings from Jonas, Gothenburg Sweden.
Please understand that this song was written by a folk singer called Pete Seeger. Many of Peter, Paul and Mary song DS were written by other people.
Pete Seeger, someone needs to cover this NOW
The great Pete Seeger wrote this.
They just can't put it together like they did back in the 60s. It ain't happening.
written by another Pete, Pete Seeger.
This is about the Vietnam war
The song is better when it's Peter Paul and Mary, not the audience singing, hate when artists do that!
This isn't the entire song. The beginning was omitted!!!
