Fishing With The YAMAGA BLUE CURRENT Ultralight Rod!

  • I have been using the Yamaga Blanks Blue Current III for several fishing trips now, and I can honestly say this is one heck of an ultralight rod. I actually got this as a gift from my friend John out in California (thanks again). It is a JDM rod so it is not available for purchase locally, and when it is all said and done, I believe it costs nearly $200 to get one. Not a cheap rod, but it is definitely a high quality ultralight!
    In today's trip, I took out only one rod, the Blue Current, and fished for whatever bites in cold early spring waters. I was fortunate enough to catch several fish across numerous species and showcase what this rod is all about.

    I wouldn’t worry about EVA foam. It’s not the foam of the 80s and 90s. EVA foam today lasts forever. I have rods that are 5 years old and the foam still looks great.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I typically have fine luck with EVA foam, but this just doesn't feel all that nice for a nearly $200 rod. Not a huge deal, just something I thought I would share. So much of this is opinion-based, which is why I rarely talk poorly about gear.

      @@FishAnything yeah you have a point there. A almost $200 rod should have a really nice grip.

      @@FishAnything I don’t know about the US but in the UK cork is only seen on Freshwater rods these days. If you want cork Yamaga do have a range of trout rods with cork grips. The PE line ratings on the rod refer to the Japanese ratings for braided line. 0.4pe braid usually has a breaking strain of 6 to 8lb. The 1 to 3 lb rating is for flouro or mono.

    Appreciate you spotlighting this brand. I just sprang for a 6’3” blue current. I can’t believe how fast a rod from Japan can get stateside. Had mine in less than 48 hours!! Haven’t fished it yet, but talk about light weight! It’s gonna be my first go at 2lb line, because it doesn’t seem like 4lb on this rod will be a sweet spot. I hope we see it in some future vids. Great video for ultralight multi species fishing. That is a great stick and the foam wouldn't scare me away. Still have 2 Shimano rods with the original split grip and they went about 50/50 on cork/foam. 1 is a 5' ultralight, the other a 6' medium light that's great for walleye and finesse bass baits. Had to add the rubber hook keepers to both. Those Magnumlite rods will be in my will lol. 😅😂

    Hi. I am arriving in Florida on Thursday and will place an order in for floats and some of the thin small paddletails for bluegills. Can you suggest what the top 3 colors are (in your opinon of course). Also I have the TFO Trout & Panfish 6.5 ft. 2 piece UL (in fact I have 3 one for each of the family). Using braid to mono leader ( I do not believe that fluoro offers any serious advantages either than to the bank accounts of manufacturers and distributors) I could detect takes on spinners on the drop. Can you kindly advise if, in your opinion< the Sierra ultralights\lights offer any advantage over the TFO ULs rods? Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Paul! I would go with True Chartreuse, Pasture Fire, and Dakota Sunrise personally. Agreed on mono vs fluoro as a leader. I actually prefer copolymer personally, which is very similar to mono. As far as rods go, the TFO is a fantastic piece of equipment. The Dobyns Sierra is significantly faster and more sensitive though, so I feel it is a superior jig rod.
