  • As I continue to test a lot of ultralight fishing equipment, I decided it would be a good idea to mix in some JDM gear. Several of you have suggested various rods, reels, and line from the Japanese market, and I can understand why, because this gear is high-end and it fits the needs of ultralight fishing very well. This is just the first video using it, but you can definitely plan to see more content with JDM gear in the future.
    🎣🎣🎣 KEY GEAR USED 🎣🎣🎣
    Daiwa Gekkabijin Ajing Rod: amzn.to/3yiW9Im
Reel: Shimano Soare BB 22 500SPG
Line: Sunline Polyester Aji No Ito #0.35 (1.75 LB) - 240m Ester Flash Yellow
    1/64oz Mule Jig: www.mulefishing.com/collectio...
    Donkey Tail Jr: www.mulefishing.com/collectio...
In this video, I primarily talked about the line I was using. This was a polyester fishing line, which is a bit new to me, but it allowed me to use a super low diameter which helped with casting and maintaining a good action. Overall, I was highly impressed with this 1.75lb test line. It is definitely not for everyone, ass it can be a bit challenging to manage because it is so thin, but for people that are comfortable dealing with that, I definitely recommend this line type. I will be testing additional polyesters in the future so stay tuned.

Cool video nice to see some ester on the channel. I’ve been using some ester for about a year now and it’s good but manageability is a little fun sometimes but where it shines casting distance and sensitivity it’s a blast to ice fish with

I used to fish Reds and Specks in the waterway canal in south LA. Gill netters got in the private hunting lease that we used to fish and the fishing just went south fast. I brought an ultra lite rig with 4 lb. test line with me the next trip down there from Baton Rouge. I started using it a couple of hours in and after only catching one or two fish. I started catching small specks. A lot of them. SAved the trip for me. Even caught a few smaller "Rat" reds. The guy I was with went out and got a smaller rig the next day. We always brought our lighter gear with us after that and we both landed fish over 4 lbs. on those set ups! Ulta lite works ...even in Salt and Brackish Waters!

That's all kinds of fun right there. Super finesse ultralight fishing is mind blowing. People see the jig boxes and vast assortments and I get some puzzled looks. I'm like here try it, the worst thing that can happen is you give it back and say I'm an idiot. Well I may be sometimes but few give them back. I love the 5/6# braids and thought going under 10# was nuts. Yeah Nope! Keep spreading the word and educating anglers bud. Blessings. My son loves pumpkinseed even at 24....

At times depending on the currency exchange rate between the U.S. Dollar and the Japanese Yen it is actually cheaper to buy name brand fishing gear from Japan than it is to buy it here in the states.
That does not even go into the fact of how advanced the JDM gear is when it comes to specialized ultralight offerings as compared to what is available here domestically in the U.S. market.
Even fishing line many lines sold as say 2lb test line here in the U.S.A. actually may have a breaking strength of 3 1/2 lbs or more and not be considered legal line to be used for a certified IGFA line class species record catch.
Top brands of Japanese lines will be test strength of what it is advertised to be.
This generally results in a thinner diameter lighter line that will cast small even 1/100th of an ounce jig much better and further than the U.S.A. available lines.
When it comes to fishing lines pay as much or more attention to the diameter of the line than the advertised breaking strength.
Want to get really light lures down really deep like 20 feet or so then try some of the ester lines from Japan that actually have no inherent buoyancy within the line itself for a new and better experience!
JDM gear can open up an entirely new world in ultra light fishing as compared to what you may be used to using only domestic stuff here in the U.S.A.!

Shimano reel on a Daiwa rod?? Reee~ heresssy!!
JK, UL fishing in freshwater really gets super fun no matter what. The rabbit hole goes deep too, high end gear really gives you a run for your money.

Ethan.. you crack me up! In a good way! I know you know who i fish is. He has a recent video using the Daiwa Gekkabijin rod (higher end model), and several using a Soare reel. Aggressively Average Anglers could have helped you with the pronunciation too. (This is NOT criticism! I only know "pronunciation" that I have heard the two previously mentioned guys on those TH-cam channels use. They may be saying them wrong for all I know. I don't know how to read or speak Japanese. It was just the way you kind of shrugged off the fact that you were probably not pronouncing the names correctly. That was so PERFECT! I loved it!) When I saw you using that line I was hoping that you might give it a fair review. I too was wondering about it. I've heard that polyester ("Ester" ) line can be problematic. "Brittle, springy (wind knots are common) and not too good to tie directly to a lure because the knots have to be "flawless" in order to hold. Should always use a leader." So... what's your take? Still watching to see! I honestly have been a bit "scared" to use that type of rod and lite line as a bank fisherman. The pond I fish in has so many places to break off and trying to cast near the shore from the shore. Let's just say I'd be losing even more jigs and plastics from hanging in the bushes and trees. My line has flown 40 or 50 feet in the direction the wind is blowing on windy days with 8 lb. Daiwa J-Braid. Seriously. More than a 90 degree angle! ...After seeing the whole video, you seemed to have no really big issues. The greater casting distance and maybe increased number of strikes and catches due to the line most likely being less visible to the fish seems to make it worth a try. Thank you for sharing. I love this direction and hope to see more as the year progresses. As always, great video to watch and very helpful information. Blessings!

I started ul spinning in the late 60s. Garcia 308 reels and 4# line. Was as light that was usually available. I finally settled on 6# in the creeks with lots of rocks. I still use 6# FLY TIPPETS for the same reason. Ul is the method imo

Just thinking, why havent you made a curly tail yet? Most of the small ones lack action or rip easily, you should make some!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  หลายเดือนก่อน

I’ll certainly consider it! I’m primarily focused on designs which I think the industry lacks. Because there are already several curly tail grubs, it hasn’t been my top priority.
