Great video, as always. I actually did not know katana's probability to break was tied to their power. The wiki states that is always an 1/8 chance. As powerful as shirahadori is, i wouldn´t reccomend giving it to your entire party. For Ramza and Luso, for example, is no as good, because in the late game you probably want to use the shout ability. This increases their bravery up to 100, as opposed to the regular cap of 97, why is that bad you ask?. The AI will never use a move that has 0% chance to hit, so they just won't attack a unit with 100 bravery and shirahadori. However, if it has 97 bravery, the AI will often take that 3% chance to hit you, in most cases resulting in wasting their turn. In those cases, it's probably better lo give them critical recover HP, Mana Shield or Auto-potion, also very busted reaction skills. That being said, this video is on point on all the rest. You DO NOT want to level up as a samurai.

Shirahidori isn't immune to everything; take Iaido for instance! So mixing up your reaction abilities for different situations is highly recommended to make sure you are filling in gaps. I also noticed the wiki and the folks on the ffhacktics forums say two different things on the katana break, so I am going with the people who broke the game open as my gut instinct. That said, I could not for the life of me find the exact forum post where it was revealed, but little bits of other posts seem to corroborate this... 🤔 Also, 15% is a good average anyway. At most it's 10% under for Chirijiraden and 8% over for Ashura, and that's close enough for me. 🤷
Not just all you said but the samurai is useless early game when there are no katanas in shop, and you need a guide to see what works best as you don’t want to learn the skill for a katana you don’t have, or that silly Bizen Boat that damages MP. Mime does help, and doublehand can be used for dragoons. I do find it easier than the dark knight, though heavy armor is so obsolete by the time you get either one. 6:45 equip katana is useless as it won’t work with holy sword nor dark knight.
@@setiawan2791 It's not THAT bad, but class growths with samurai are not very good. You should probably just get their skills and move on to another class, keeping iaido as a secondary skill. Try something with high Magick Attack like black mage and you'll like the results.

5:18 There's a random battle in Deep Dungeon: Horror (Midlight's Deep: Interstice) with samurais and ninjas throwing an unlimited amount of the two rarest samurai blades so I had my team immobilize the last one of them and had one with Catch (Sticky Fingers) standing in the throwing range to grab all the blades. Ended up with lots of them but it was a long and boring battle lol. That was before I knew about cheats and stuff. I don't remember if that random battle always had rare samurai blades or their inventory was also randomized.
Hi Zaxele, that's an awesome tip thank you for sharing! I think those are some of the best abilities in the game but I'm too afraid of the katana breaking that I never get to use them. This method is a great solve for only having one each to sacrifice! 💪

I like putting the Draw Out skill on a Geomancer since they have higher MA and u can equip alot more MA boosting equipment which will increase both skills damage
Up until Jase had Samurai as a secondary for Orlandeau, I didn't realize they had a magic basis. I do love Drawout abilities, though. I just wish there was a way the shops could update once you get a special weapon. I haven't even gotten some of the higher Samurai katana, yet even if I did, I feel they'd get broken pretty quickly... Awesome video! Also, who's the next person on the docket for your "Creator Chat" series? I don't know of many people, so I am looking forward to it just as much as Jase and probably many others!

The goal is to open the audience up to PVP and kinda dissolve some of the mysticism behind it. He has a great little community of passionate players, and of course the more the merrier!
The swim ability is a bit trash until finnath river and that’s maybe. The casting of float also increase your height so while swim keeps u at a depth of 1 casting float in the same spot will raise your height by 2 so use caution with melee fighters.
Haha, I couldn't agree more VC! Having a movement ability slot taken up for just one or two maps is ridiculous, especially when you consider temporary buffs or equipment that will do the job. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and checking out the video! 🙏
Unless you have the maintenance ability of the chemist: each use of the Samurai skill uses the same 'break' chance as a knight, reduced by the zodiac sign of the unit 'attacking' your people
I realize Im probably wrong, but I always preferred black mage with draw out secondary, then have dragonheart (reraise) reaction ability. Everyone says shirahadori is the most broken ability in the game though
Hi Radovan, I am not exactly sure as I haven't tested this combination directly. However I haven't seen anything to suggest Maintenance/Safeguard helps items from breaking if they are not equipped, and if it were true then I would say it's a bug. What happened around a year ago? I've come across sooo many Tactics videos most dating to around a year ago. Why the sudden interest in this game? Don't take it the wrong way, I think its a great game. I mean I did years ago. Played the shit out of the ps1 version at least. Though, last time I attempted to play it again I didn't get far and stopped playing. Just don't have the time, or patience anymore. It's a shame the ps1 version was "basic" compared to wol. I never had a psp, and from what ive seen it added so much, but also made the game almost unrecognizable.

Iaido probably one of the best command skills you can give to Ramza if you dont have access to Dark Knights Darkness skill in the OG PSX version.

Summoner with Drawout as the secondary skill can be quite powerful, considering the very high MA and instant speed.
Agreed! Summoner is a great unit to use Mana Shield with since they have such a high MP stat, and with Iaido you won't be needing MP offensively. ☝

So you're saying that Katana's won't break on use if you have the maintenance ability equipped?!

Imo, the Draw Out skill should never have a chance to break the sword unless it is used as a secondary ability.
Ngl i don't see anyone talking about this but safeguard can prevent a katana from breaking from iaido
