@@adachc thank you very much!
Best asalato training video I've seen on YT. Thank you so much
Thank you very much! I am happy to know that it helps.
Fantastic video. Been practicing for 3 days already. But your video has shown me a new logical way of learning. Thank you.
@@numberone63 Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. And wish you new rhythms in your hands 🙌🏻
Amazing. Starting my Asalato journey with this video
@@myworldthroughmylens I am happy for you! Wishing you patience and joy!
I'm getting a pair this week. Can't wait to start learning and practicing.
@@shiroito4673 nice! Enjoy!
Hi Alex. Thank you for teaching me so much on the Asalato and frame drum. I also plan on watching your other videos to learn more.
Linda, thanks for your words. I am very happy to khow that my videos are helpful for you ❤️
I saw the asalato instrument for the first time in my life only today , and instantly i was struck by the rhythm similarity to konnakol phrases
And then while i was trawling through youtube and found you using konnakol to count the beat and now i am hooked!
I am learning to play rock drumming, japanese taiko, and konnakol, I will just have to find time to learn how to play this form of percussion too!
Thank you so for posting this video!🙏
@@induchaudhuri3866 wow, I like your choice (rock and taiko). You will have a lot of fun with asalato! It’s already more than 3 years I play every day, that’s how I am hooked!!!
Thanks for your comment! Check my other videos in this playlist.
absolutely amazing!!!! thank you so much for sharing your knowledge perfect explanation of both process and beat theory..... thank you please keep em coming

Very helpful -- still struggling with the basics!
Best first lesson I’ve seen with this!
@@irelisiam wow, thanks a lot! :)
Such a great tutorial. Thank you.
@@angelalayana485 Angela, thank you!
just found your channel, this is exactly what i need! i have been playing for a while now, can do 3/4 in one hand and 4/4 in the other, but anything other than those time signatures i struggle to wrap my head around. counting out the beats is gonna help me a lot i think. thank you
Have a good practice! 🤜🏽🤛🏽
Thank you Alex! (Dear other viewers, please don't let the title fool you into thinking this is some boring math stuff, but in fact, the principles are very very very easy, and the approach intuitive!)
I checked out several other beginner tutorials but I like yours best because it allows the player to jump right into rhythmic fun (after just a few minutes into the video of course), which is what matters the most to most people I reckon!
You make me smile, thank you for your review and for your kind words!
I bought my own Asalato last week and I've been practicing every day. I've never been very good at precussion / beat consistency, but this video has helped me so much even just watching it for a few minutes! Thank you so much, this instrument is beautiful and you're extremely helpful in understanding the math and the physics. Looking forward to this whole playlist!
Joy, thank you! I am so happy for you; it is really a great instrument. I am still playing every day and enjoying it a lot!
@@rhythm_with_alex I have a set at work and a set at home! whenever I need a break, I check out this video and try a few things - looking forward to messing around more with it when I'm home! Also, forgot to mention before - the first thing I did when I got them was Step One which should tell people how "intuitive" this instrument can feel when you first get it!
Best training
Thank you, Avinash!
This is mind blowing knowledge. I have been playinf for a few days and was missing fundamental exercises. I will add these 3 exercises 😊
@@mikeianosiproject-acoustic5924, Mike@@mikeianosiproject-acoustic5924 Have a great time with asalato :)

Thank you very much for this video and your explanations! I always had difficulties with the counting when playing the Asalato. So your video is like "the missing link" for me and is therefore very helpful. I would be definitely grateful and happy about an additional video of you. All the best!
Luca, thanks for writing. I will record another video about counting in asalato.
This was super helpful. I needed exactly this: how to translate konnakol into asalato! Thank you!!
thank you for your words. I am very glad that it was helpful for you!
Excellent tutorial. Really opened up my understanding of this instrument. I appreciate having some new exercises to practice. Thank you!
Happy to hear! May it bring more magic to your hands:)
After watching this video I've improved dramatically. Thank you very much :D
I am happy to hear that. Thank you!
Very good! You are the first one I see on youtube teaching with details what I consider to be the most important about how to play this instrument. Thank You! Make more videos, please 😊
Thank you, Ana! Appreciate your words.
I will make more videos. In the meantime please check all other videos in this playlist.
Amazing!! You have taken me to the next level! Been playing a couple of months now but got stuck in doing shakes and upward turns.. in 24hrs with u ive learnt the flop and how to downward click i cant wait to master what your teaching and im only in leason 1! Thank you for explaining the mathematics of it in simple terms! I now have a basic understanding of what im doing.. cant wait to show my drum teacher next year my progression..
Wow, sounds great! Thanks for writing, it brings me understanding that I am on the right way with these videos and my method of explaining rhythm. Good luck with your asalato!
This lesson is great, very clear explanation of basic moves, thanks so much! It will take a while to grow capacity to do these movements, but I know it will come, so off I go!❤🎉😊
thank you! I wish you patience, everything else will come!
Fantastic lesson
Very simple and straight forward instructions.
You've made it look easy and possible to learn.

Thank you very much! Do you play asalato? :)
I just stumbled into your channel, I have always loved to dance and sing, but was embarrassed about my rhythm, I can entrain to rhythm well but I always seem to lose the "1". I just did one of your neurogames and I already feel really encouraged that this will help my brain get it! I just ordered my assalata and cannot wait to keep practicing through your lessons thank you so much!
Kathryn, thank you so much for your feedback! I am happy that my pedagogical activity helps you.
Asalato is such an amazing instrument, I play it every day.

SUPER COOL LESSON CONGRATS✨✨✨✨
Thank you very much :)
Super cool! Not easy at all :D
Thanks! Yes, it’s not the most basic things. For basic level I have recorded 16 lessons as an online course.
thank you master! Damn. tricky, but anything is possible with practice
Exactly! :)
10:46 summarised lesson
Very well explained, I only bought the instrument recently and I've yet to master it but I'll try your techniques
Great! Good luck :) I wish you patience and trust in yourself.
Thank you Alex! The most challenging thing is continuous shaking. You explained well tho!
Thanks for a comment!
Yes, shaking is a challenge, but at some point you just start to do it automatically, like breathing.
After some practice I got it! Now trying to make a flawless 16 beat Do you always count when playing a specific rhythm?
@@artemkuznetsov3776 great! when learning the pattern, counting helps. Afterwards I just feel it and intellectually I know that this feeling corresponds to this rhythmic size.
Great video thank you. I’ve been playing for a few months now. I can do what you’re showing here but haven’t done so much counting, relying on my ear mostly.
One thing, I cannot find large Asalato like you and many others use here in Portugal and I can hear that regardless of the material used, larger gives a deeper sound I prefer. All I can find are about 5cm. I’m wondering how difficult it will be to adjust to the larger type when I can get some.
Cheers.
Alan, hello! Thank you for reaching out! You know, my first asalato set was of this larger size, and for the first two years, I played without any idea that smaller balls existed. It was great. Later, I discovered where to get smaller balls, and we began producing asalato using them. I think if you already have some skills with a smaller size, it will not be difficult to adjust. You'll probably start playing right away. If you're interested, we can make asalato for you with the larger balls (same size as in the video) and send them to you. Contact us at you.and.rhythm@gmail.com.
Thank you for this! Huge help! Is thick or thin string easier do you think?
You are welcome! ☀️
I used all kinds of strings. First 1,5 years maybe I used thin one. It was totally fine. Now I am using thick strings, they feel more comfortable for the hands. So I would suggest thicker.
Mate, this really clarified things for me! I'm struggling with the mechanics of spinning the asalato and changing diretcion. Any tips?
Thanks! I’ll try to make video about spinning in some time soon. Thanks for the question.
@@rhythm_with_alex thank you! I made some progress yesterday, and the slomo parts were helpful, but I'm struggling to figure out how to move my wrist and arm to change the orientation of the spin relative to my hand (Or the orientation of my hand relative to the spin)
Thanks for the video! I'm finding when am spinning the asalato as I go to bounce to change directions I hit my fingers is this common for a beginner?
Yes, hitting finger is a very common thing. I did it too.
🙏🏼🎉
I want to learn that Indian mouth music but not the balls
@@kristiyager no problem, I can teach you in 2 formats: online course or private classes. Which one do you prefer?
