I also have a Crest cleaner. You want to make sure the tank is always filled to about an inch or so from the top. Running it with less liquid will damage the transducers. Thanks for the video!
I used my ultrasonic cleaner on my suppressor baffles. That was the main reason for buying the cleaner. It did a really good job, but there was some carbon spots that wouldn't come off unless I picked at them manually. Got tired of that and wound up soda blasting them. 5 minutes later, clean as new. Thanks for this video, I plan on dropping my Beretta 9mm in and giving it a clean. It's 15 or so years old and hasn't been cleaned other than the typical brush and lube that you'd do normally. I don't plan on going beyond a field strip though. I'm no gun smith and breaking it down beyond the field strip level makes me nervous.
Awesome vid!!! I bought 2 ultra Sonic cleaners from Harbor freight. 2.5 liter. 5 cups hot water, 1 cup simple green HD. Ran it for 2 8 minute cycles to de-gas and the second cleaner I use MotorKote in for lube. Never had an issue. The heater doesn't have a timer on it, so I just heat for 8 minutes before I throw my parts in for an 8 minute cycles. 480seconds on the display
Walmart: Stainless steel Keurig mesh filter for coffee grounds for those small parts. $5 Tactical Crock-Pot: Black cerakote with cammo design done with spray paint. Add at least 3 Picatinny rails Electronic optic (the high the $$ the better) with NV modes. Hand stop Light (50000 lumen min)
I now have a cleaning setup modeled after this one and it works amazingly well! Thanks bud. I did my Glock yesterday and it's like new. I included a .25 cent trigger job. I've always been a Frog Lube guy but overusing it. This way, I everything is wiped down but thoroughly lubed. Now all my buddies want me to do theirs. GREAT video! I have liked and subscribed to your channel. My HK USP Compact is next! Eventually my whole collection.
A1Pro77 Awesome! What ultrasonic unit did you use? And yes, get used to your buddies asking you to "help" them clean their guns... and by "help," they mean do it for them with your new setup. :)
If you’re not using FrogLube anymore, what are you using? Are you still using the crockpot method? If so, do you reuse the FrogLube or other lubricant that’s in the crockpot?
I like your setup. I bake my stuff in the oven and then apply the frog lube and let in cool then put it back in two more times. I do like the crock pot I have been thinking if you could put the frog lube in the ultrasonic cleaner? I would think that would really work it down in to the metal.
Tom Jones GearGuy you can do that just get another container to put down into the cleaning solution or a plastic bag like he does just with lube instead of cleaner.
I use a old foot massager. Simple green HD and hot water. It just bouncers the parts around very little. Rinse with hot water. Dry with hair dryer and lube the parts.
Ckiefer.045 gummy issues are due to using the froglube incorrectly. I did this the first time. It’s important to remove all petroleum coating off the gun. Hence ultra cleaning with a natural degreaser like simple green. Afterwards heating the gun parts with heat gun to warm to touch then placing froglube clp on it will soak the lube into the porous metal. After letting it cool/cure for at least an hour then wipe away all excess lube.
Great video; love Frog Lube but not quite as OCD as you but getting there. I may invest in the Hornady unit so I can do my AR uppers as well. Thanks, Ray
A1Pro77 Absolutely! I did this once with a coffee filter and a funnel. However, given how cheap the cleaning solution is when diluted, I stopped doing it. I use the solution in the tank for a long time until I swap it out, depending on how dirty it gets.
so i just recently bought a ultrasonic cleaner, its a cheapo 2.5L one. i just got it for Pistol barrels and AK and VEPR gas tubes and bolts. after shooting corrosive ammo. serious question, with this solution (simple green pro HD) can i put an aluminum gas tube in the cleaner without worrying about damaging it? that and as you can tell by me being cheap can i just use froglube CLP liquid and wipe it all down after instead of using crock pot method? i do plan on either using an air compressor or canned air and paper towels in-between cleaning and lubing to dry it off. i just want to make sure not to damage my preciouses.
+lukeyb13 Yep! As long as it's the HD version, it won't hurt aluminium. Normal Simple Green will. And the Froglube liquid and a hair dryer will do the same thing as the crockpot!
+Steve Jenkins (Ferrari Steve) Thanks for the quick response! I plan on doing this very often with my firearms, I was just worried because I heard that ultrasonic cleaners damage aluminum. I also have learned you can just put straight FL CLP in the cleaner and theres no need to dry, just wipe off, reassemble and you are good to go! Now I just have to find large amounts of FrogLube. Thanks again!
After watching I realized I must get myself an ultrasonic cleaning system .It looks like a much faster and thorough clean. But I will need a cleaning system large enough for my shotgun and AR-10 barrels.
I have a 6L stainless one I found on eBay. It seems to do a pretty thorough job. I wish I had gotten the 10L version, but it was a gift so... I have come to enjoy shooting a lot more since I've been digging in and doing complete dis/assemblies and my own mods of each of my pistols. Also going to be taking some armorers courses in the coming months as well. I am one happy camper!
A Zip-lock bag? Nah! Check out cheesecloth bags. Where is your link to the guide of the best way to degas cleaning solution, you've mentioned, by the way? Do I need to remove tritium night-sights before the u-s cleaning/froglube bathing?
@@officeroinker440 I know that. The video creator made a statement about it in his video - hence the quotes. I was asking him to qualify his statement.
Frog lube is peepee poopoo for anyone that lives in a colder climate. I’ve had my Glock gum up on me at the range when it was about 25 degrees outside.
Awesome video, but I'd like to point out, it maybe a better idea and save large bottle and dispose of it at a recycle center since you are removing metal fouling and lead. The Simple Green maybe eco friendly but the crude that comes off the casing isn't, and this maybe safe if you know your drain goes to a water treatment plant. But if you live in a rural area it may drain directly to your river... where you may catch fish....and eat. In fact my friend is city inspector and he tells me in San Francisco many of the drains do go directly into the Bay, and if there is heavy rain and the system will not be able contain it, it will over flow directly into the Bay. Which sucks because i love the idea of just fishing off a Pier and tossing back "beers" at the bay, but its only catch and release... wouldn't want to eat shit. The amount of containment run off in City areas are just prolific, from what my friend tells me.
So that’s what, $150 worth of FrogLube in that Crock Pot? Right now a gallon bucket of FrogLube paste is $185 on Bezos’s mail order site (which shall not be named on YT). I use FrogLube and Seal1 myself (sister bio-based products), but that stuff is all quite pricey. Not sure I could justify keeping a crock of it around. Being a bio oil, not unlike Crisco shortening, coconut oil, or lard, it’ll eventually spoil. That said, putting firearm parts in a hot bath of the stuff would certainly prevent corrosion. FrogLube is renown for its ability to protect metal from rusting.
Tat2dReverend When I got sick of paying $50 per gallon for something that evaporates even when cold. :) The purple Simple Green works every bit as well, has less of an odor, can be dumped down the drain, and is 1/20th the cost!
***** Water doesn't instantly cause rust. 10 to 15 minutes in an ultrasonic bath won't hurt. Even if you used dishwater to clean your gun, you're supposed to dry it thoroughly right after cleaning/degreasing and reapply lube (before rusting). I really don't understand why people are so worried about water based gun cleaners. Just don't soak for long, people!
Hi, NewGunGuy. It would be a super boring video - it's just running the ultrasonic cleaner for 20-ish minutes until it stops bubbling. You only have to do it the first time you use the solution.
I'm sorry, but I can hardly stop laughing, but I just watched a set of 3 videos on the ArachniGRIP website that were done by a Deputy Sheriff who's a certified armorer for 7 or 8 different brands of firearms. He cleaned a Glock 17 that had just had 300 rounds put through it, using Q-tips, a nylon toothbrush, a stainless steel toothbrush, a dental pick, some gun swabs and a rag. No cleaning solutions, or chemicals whatsoever. When he was through cleaning, he put perhaps 6 or 8 tiny drops of Breakfree on areas where metal rubbed metal, and that was it. Different strokes for different folks.
I also have a Crest cleaner. You want to make sure the tank is always filled to about an inch or so from the top. Running it with less liquid will damage the transducers. Thanks for the video!
That "HEAVY DUTY CLEANER" bit was funny. Nice vid now I want to clean my gun.
Joe Velaz Thanks!
I saw in a few comments you mentioned you no longer use frog lube - would love to know what your setup looks like now! Thanks for sharing.

Any updates on this? I'm about to pull the trigger on a gallon of Froglube to try this, but I was wondering if you had changed your procedure at all.
You need to fill it up the the fill line. The heating elements are on the side walls of the ultrasonic.
If you’re not using FrogLube anymore, what are you using? Are you still using the crockpot method? If so, do you reuse the FrogLube or other lubricant that’s in the crockpot?
Have you ever tried simple green extreme precision cleaner (non corrosion at a dilution of 1:13 or greater as specified)?
Does the ultra sonic affect pistol sights?
put the small parts (springs and pins)
in a shot glass
how much frog lube do you need for the crocpot you put it in after the cleaner?
I like your setup. I bake my stuff in the oven and then apply the frog lube and let in cool then put it back in two more times. I do like the crock pot I have been thinking if you could put the frog lube in the ultrasonic cleaner? I would think that would really work it down in to the metal.

Do you still use Froglube? I've used it for a couple years now, and I love it!
In your video at around 9:56, you show the crock and right behind it is an industrial size FrogLube Paste. Where does one get that size? Thanks, Joe
I believe the correct 1 to 5 ratio of SG to H2O is 3.2 cups to 1 gallon. 128÷5=25.6, 25.6÷8=3.2 -I think?!? ☺
Did you read the manual?Ultrasonic cleaners should run towards a fuller capacity.
Do you still use this process? Every any issues with the Froglube getting gummy, like others have experienced?
Ckiefer.045 gummy issues are due to using the froglube incorrectly. I did this the first time. It’s important to remove all petroleum coating off the gun. Afterwards heating the gun parts with heat gun to warm to touch then placing froglube clp on it will soak the lube into the porous metal. You could use a plastic salad spinner to get the excess froglube off the parts as well.
I no longer use Frog Lube, but for those who do, I just tell them to shake their gun like a Polaroid picture.
Steve Jenkins - what do you use now for ultrasound Lube?
Great video; love Frog Lube but not quite as OCD as you but getting there. I may invest in the Hornady unit so I can do my AR uppers as well. Thanks, Ray
BTW...can the diluted cleaning solution or the FrogLube be filtered (maybe using some sort of screen or cheese cloth) and reused?
A1Pro77 Absolutely! I did this once with a coffee filter and a funnel. However, given how cheap the cleaning solution is when diluted, I stopped doing it. I use the solution in the tank for a long time until I swap it out, depending on how dirty it gets.
So what do you do with the crock pot of frog lube? Do you let it Resolidify and add it to the source or throw it out?
What kind of sights do you have on your Glock? And have you had any problems with the cleaner damaging the sights?
Hi +Christian Sundberg. I run Trijicons, and haven't had any issues with them in the ultrasonic.
+Steve Jenkins (Ferrari Steve) thank you.

Hi steve, can i talk to you about this cleaner.
Tx
The 'vibrations' doesn't cause friction in the basket to damage the metal or plastic parts? Is the basket coated?
Travis Thompson aluminum parts shouldn’t be put in a ultrasonic cleaner
As far as I have read other materials good to go

or just a small parts basket. then all the crud falls out
Curious - why would you "never run a brush down a dry bore"?
You can with no problems. Steel is stronger than brass.
@@officeroinker440 I know that. The video creator made a statement about it in his video - hence the quotes. I was asking him to qualify his statement.
I soak aluminum and steel parts with teflon lube and bake em in front of a space heater.
Teflon lube?
did you run your polymer Glock frame through the ultrasonic cleaner?
I would also like to know that. Any problem with fiber optic sights? Plastic gun parts?
I put my frame into the ultrasonic and haven't experienced any issues. Fine on any plastics I've used. Fiber optics I'm not sure about though.

Why not use the cleaner full strength to minimize water on the parts?
