I used this lock extensively before swapping out for the Aqara U200, only because I wanted Thread connectivity, button keypad rather than touchscreen, and also a fingerprint reader. Either way, can't go wrong with the Yale Assure Lock 2+ if you want a sleek touchscreen Homekey Lock. It was my previously most recommended lock that I was excited to tell people about. All the smart locks are missing something super important for me. It would be great if they had an alarm (getting notifications in your phone) that triggers whenever someone tries to open or force the door. This way, if you have a camera, you can quickly review the footage and see if anyone is trying to break in. Without this kind of alert, you'll end up getting a bunch of notifications from your neighbors just opening their doors because of the motion detection of the cameras!
I purchased and installed this smart lock almost six months ago and I strongly recommend it. There is a Bluetooth only version as well as a Bluetooth + Wi-Fi version……don’t buy the Bluetooth + Wi-Fi version if battery life is your top priority. You don’t need the Bluetooth + Wi-Fi version if you have an Apple Home Hub (any Apple TV or HomePod) since your Home Hub (which is internet connected) will be connected to the lock. I have the Bluetooth only version and I can control the lock from anywhere since I have multiple Apple TVs and HomePods. The battery on the lock hasn’t died since it was purchased and the lock is used several times a day. I cannot recommend this lock enough!
It's my favorite Homekit product of all time for 3 reasons. First obviously it's Apple Home Key feature, second is it's beautiful small design and curve aesthetics +the just perfect sound when I touch the pad numbers, third it's really reliable to work all the time.
I bought this lock over a month ago and use it it 8-12 times a day and the battery is still at 89% . I’m going to purchase another one for my back door and garage. Hasn’t dropped signal once.
Yep, this one is. Didn't know the Schlage was too. Those are the two I'm looking at. I have a door that's a little tricky because I have to push the door in to close the deadbolt. I tried adjusting the tab on the bottom knob strike plate but that didn't fix it. Another review mentioned that the Yale comes with a strikeplate that's a little wider than most, so that should help my situation as well.
Adding a key passage would just make it vulnerable to picking and bump keys. If someone wants in they’ll get in but if a bump key is their method of choice I would think they would walk by to find an easier target.
I got the lock with fingerprint for my young kid. I do wish i this had fingerprint so i could have both since it was a hard choice. I might of choose Eufy if it was out but i already bought the Yale.
Do most people only have 1 lock on their doors? Here in the UK we have 2 locks - a night latch and a dead bolt. Do any of these smart locks sync together if you want 2 on a single door? Also Yale appear to be the only company who do smart night latch locks.
I'm looking at the "Yale Assure Lock 2 Satin Nickel Smart Lock Electronic Deadbolt with Wifi Bluetooth Fingerprint Touchscreen Keypad" for $259. Is that all most the same as this one and just as good? I would be putting this on my front door that I don't really use to enter my home because I go through the garage. Therefore, I also want to put another lock on my garage entry door to my home. Should I get 2 of the same? Or is there one that might be a little less expensive? However, since I always enter through the garage i want that lock to have the auto unlock and be able to open with my Apple Watch and/or iPhone too. Sounds like I probably just need to buy 2 of the same?? What do you suggest? Thanks a million!!!

My main concern is battery life. A lot of reviews say they change batteries every month or 2 and that’s just insane. It could just be the WiFi model that drains batteries but that has the features I want with remote unlocking. I’m on the fence
Even with extreme testing for a few weeks, I’m still at 90%. Like I said in the video, this is my second time with this lock. I had no battery issues with the first one either (had it for 3 months). If you use the lock exclusively with Apple Home (and have an Apple Home Hub), you don’t need the WiFi model to operate the lock remotely. You can do it via Bluetooth using Apple Home.
Battery life can be troublesome but I use PaleBlue rechargeable batteries. I set up a routine for myself to pull them out every 3 months to charge them. 90 minutes and they are fully charged. Another great video, George!
I use rechargeable batteries for everything so at least I’m not spending unnecessary money or filling landfills. My concern is if you accidentally leave your phone/watch inside the house. Hopefully there’s a backup.
In emergency situations you can hold a 9 volt battery up against the terminals below the keypad. It will give you enough temporary juice to get in & replace the batteries.
The lock is battery operated so loss of power is irrelevant. Also, the lock doesn’t use Wi-Fi for unlocking. You can connect to the lock via Bluetooth with the Yale app or you can unlock it with HomeKey or a passcode. It really is bulletproof in its capabilities.
@stevenaziz Yes, but complete battery drain counts as loss of power. So that part of the question is still relevant. That’s where the 9 volt battery trick comes in.
I had the August and I now have the Aqara U100 both are garbage in my opinion. The U100 just stopped working with HomeKey and the code. I can unlock with my phone or the Key ONLY.
It would be nice, but I personally don’t find myself missing that feature. Everyone in my home uses their watch or phone to unlock and Apple Home still notifies me who is using the door.
There are so many bad reviews on this lock. Units failing because of the lock jamming, or the electronics going dead. Not to mention terrible battery life. I like the look of the Yale locks, but it's too risky to get one and hope it keeps working. Also, they could have easily made the bluetooth model either smaller since it doesn't use the wifi module, or they could have used that space for some much needed extra battery.
Not sure what reviews you’re reading, but all I can tell you, is I love this lock. I also know several of my fellow TH-camrs feel the same. Both of the locks I’ve had worked flawlessly & I’ve had no problem with battery life. So I sure wouldn’t consider buying one to be “risky”. As far as the size, it’s one of the smallest on the market…so I’m not quite sure what you’re talking about there.
@@GeorgeLangabeerI read reviews from all of the places you can purchase the lock, so Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, Walmart. etc. Plenty of people like it, but there's about a 15-20% 1 star reviews on this lock. Tons of problems from battery life (mainly with the wifi option) to problems with the hardware failing and issues with the app working. I think it's the best looking smart lock out there, but they have some serious issues with their quality and the unit should have been designed with more battery power. Glad it's working out for you though, but I'm going to wait until something comes out that has better quality than this.

Apple Home Key is definitely my favorite feature.

If you want Home Key & a fingerprint reader, I recommend the Aqara U200. It’s also a great lock.

The August has continually gone downhill over the years. I didn’t have the U100 long enough to have a problem with it. But I absolutely love the U200.

My only problem is Yale ruined August locks so they would be the last one I would waste my money on. Horrible company!
August was ruined long before Yale entered the picture. So I wouldn’t blame Yale.
