This was very rambly and I did it to get back into recording after taking a few weeks off. Curious to hear your thoughts on what informs your own perspective, and encourage you to think through why you hold certain opinions on the games.

Thanks for opening my eyes to my biases and helping me realize my true preferences. I could’ve gone my whole life without realizing my opinions are the best

Not really much of a youtube comment writer, but you've talked about two things that I'm incredibly interested in back to back lol.
I think going through this self "thought analysis" is really important as a life thing. Being objective in regards to Fire Emblem or anything in life for that matter is incredibly difficult. It's definitely something you have to really train yourself and maybe even have to be a little crazy to be able to remove yourself entirely from a given situation, piece of media, and ect.
Video was a super enjoyable watch.

Glad to hear - and yes, I agree. Self-awareness is one of the most important life skills anyone can cultivate. I've read a lot on stoicism and it's helped me better remove myself and my ego from situations / thoughts to get closer to the root of things.

Interesting thoughts. I myself started with fe9 and 10 as a kid, and they definitely stuck with me. Never really beat either of them, I just enjoyed playing up until about the halfway point over and over. I didn't figure out how many other games there were in the franchise for a long time. So when I found Shadow Dragon at the local gamestop, I picked it up and played it. I almost immediately dropped it cause of how... off it felt/looked. Once I did more research with my newfound phone, I played the GBA series for the first time, and replayed Tellius, and it felt way better. I think that goes to show how strong that "lizard brain"/raw emotion reaction can be.
edit: I've played more than just GBA and Tellius, Fe3 and Three Houses have been fun too.

Of all the games I could've started with, my first was Shadow Dragon and I dunno what that says about my FE biases lol. It's not my favourite, that would be PoR as it's the closest to a perfect FE game imo. Played everything from FE6 onwards which by the way if FE6 HM is your sweet spot for difficultly, I can see why I had some trouble with you hack lol.
As for my preferences what better way to express them than to rip on things I disagree with in VQ now that I've almost completed it 2 times =P
    1) I don't play iron man, ever, so there one fundamental difference, I prefer smaller casts of characters and I hate making mistakes so I'll usually reset or even save state because my preferred difficultly is somewhere in the range of FE7 EHM or FE9 HM. I feel like I didn't get to use a lot of characters I was interested in or optimize their supports which I also like to do. I get that it's mostly to encourage replayability though.
    2) I'd prefer that most if not all the gems were droppable instead of stealable especially in FoW chapters. I get that Esfir is supposed to be good and I somewhat understand the story implications of having to steal so much but after a certain point I just don't like to leave an open slot for a thief just to stay afloat on money instead of deploying a stronger combat unit, because the cast is big and deployment slots are not THAT generous. I'd say without stealing money becomes scarce which is inconvenient because I'm an item hoarder and I'm proud of it. =P
    3) THAT DESERT CHAPTER ARGHHHH. I think the idea is that you are supposed to promote most of your units by this point, which I don't do because I guess I'm a filthy casul that likes to see his units grow as much as possible before promotion. Also as I've said I'm a hoarder and I like to go out of my way to get every item if possible on such chapters, the pegasus reinforcements make that extremely difficult. I managed to grab everything both times but it cost me a fair bit of frustration and a lot of resets. Not a fan.
    4) Too much cheese and HECKing 7.8/10 =P
Other than that I had a good time with the hack, because I just love the gameplay loop of FE that much. I think when it comes to general FE preferences for me it's story>characters>maps>>>> everything else. I can say though even if I disagree with a lot of gameplay things in VQ I think the characters were really well done as both units and personalities. Also I think out of all the hacks I've played VQ actually got the closest to inspiring me to make my own hack some day. It's unlikely that I'll do it because all I have are some vague character and story concepts and not much in the way of balancing and maps, I definitely see myself as more of a storyteller than a gameplay mechanics buff and the technical side of hacking just scares the shit out of me because I have zero experience with programming haha.
But anyway thanks for reading all of that if you did and sorry for this wall of text :D I hope you don't take the criticisms I had too personally.
P.S. Honeydew is and absolute delight and I love her, she is a waifu (and no I'm not one of those people lol)

Your feedback is most welcome! It's always nice to hear perspectives. The criticism is fair and I don't take it personally at all. Thanks for playing through it twice!
The technical side of hacking is not nearly as scary as you may think. I am not a technical hacker at all. I'm sure you could do it if you wanted!

Yes, Honeydew is an Interesting Fire emblem Unit. What else did you think it meant?

Nice to hear how your experiences color your perspectives. At first I was afraid this video was going to go into some social justice stuff and random things like "why do people like female myrmidons so much - it's toxic!" or something super wild and divisive based on the video title. I know that's not your gig though. Thanks for keeping things professional, as always (pre-recorded breaks and all).
