Undertale definitely has one of the most punishing bad endings simply due to how much of a hell it is to work your way to getting it, and the fact that you can't get any endings other than bad endings after it. It is quite literally Toby Fox way of telling you: "Just because it's a game doesn't mean actions of being a completely genocidal murder hobo is justified in any way shape or form." No game really does that to this level, Undertale tracks the fact that you have done this so well, it will take you hours upon hours just to lift yourself from this insane curse. Idk if it deserves a top spot on this list, but it surely does deserve one.

Then there was the bad ending of the Octo Expansion of Splatoon 2. When you fail to stop Tartar in that 3 minutes. Seeing that brief destruction of Inkopolis. Something at this point you had been accustomed to for a year.

A lot of people wanted to take the blame off of themselves when the genocide ending was first discovered by blaming Chara, but as they say upon doing the run a second time: "You made your choice a long time ago." They're just there to finish the job, and to let you know there's no going back if you get cold feet at the very end and decide not to destroy the world.

My favorite bad ending in Super Paper Mario is when the queen of the Underwhere(forgot her name) asks you to help find her daughter. You refuse multiple times and she finally decides that Mario will suffer an eternity in this canon’s variant of Hell. Just hearing that there is a possible ending where Mario is trapped in Hell until the end of time is absolutely unthinkable.

It's sad because Junko wins... She enjoyed the torment she gave to Kyoko when Monokuma is teaching Kyoko about SEX... It turns out, that would be Hina's faith with the boys... I am really sure, there is nothing consensual happened between Hina and the boys except maybe for Naegi(there are hints that Hina like Naegi)... But the fact that she got RAPED by Togami and Hagakure to reproduce is a bad ending... Also, the fact that her children is 3 BOYS as well, oh boy you know what's gonna happen... Hina would be miserable for the rest of her life and basically became the tool for reproduction and Junko Enoshima would enjoy the despair every minute of it

DR1's bad ending is really my favorite bad ending because of what it really entails. I flipping love Kyoko, so obviously I went for the good ending first. But of course I also wanted to see what would happen if I exposed her lie. First off, the intermission in this video being the execution does not help my anxiety. I legit had to pause the video before the 4th entry to breathe and stop myself from a heart attack. Then the 4th entry WAS DR1 and well..... that didn't help.... I always saw the 5th Execution as one of the scariest executions for me, because unlike most executions, where you don't know HOW the character is gonna die, you KNOW INSTANTLY and the entire time is just anticipation. Especially since it's by crusher, so you get to hear the large thumps. The best part is that it really can seem like a good ending in a way. The other five make it out of the killing game and live happily. But there's that... off feeling. It's moreso than just Kyoko dying and you never learning the truth. According to Kodaka, some... messed up things happen in that ending. For one, apparently Hina is the parent of all three of the children there. Which yeah, it honestly is kinda funny seeing Hiro's prediction come true. And apparently Toko also... randomly.... explodes... hence her absence from the picture. Which I would be fine with cause I dislike her, but it's just so... weird. That's the thing. It feels artificial. Especially when you do consider what really happened in Danganronpa, with the entire world in ruins. And after seeing the true ending, knowing that Junko and the Remnants of Despair are still out there.... it really makes you question. Honestly, I wonder if that bad ending ever happened. It's entirely possible Monokuma made up that photo... But those are just my thoughts. It was a good list.
The hardest thing for me in InFamous 2 is the fact that there's 2 "companions": the one that asks you to make good decisions throughout the game and the other one that wants you to be evil and in that final choice, they swap places that made me so goddamn confused-
One of my favorite bad endings is Call of Duty Cold War's bad ending. You spend the entire game brainwashed to kill your allies and fight against what you believe in. At the end of the game, you break out of your coding and have the choice to fight alongside the people who only saw you as a tool for their own goals and were ready to dispose of you once you were no longer useful. Or turn against them and lead them into a trap where you take your vengeance by killing them and working to create the world you believed in and fought for. And that last part was the bad ending which was infinitely more satisfying.
Another thing about the Undertale ending, apparently if you do two genocide runs in a row even LOVE filled Chara is disturbed by it and flat out tells the player to do a different route. It's on TH-cam if anyone wants to check it out.

(good to have you back btw) And the bad ending that stayed with me is the one of MMX5. *SPOILERS* Not only thousands of people died and the Earth is now fucked up from the crash of Eurasia, but Zero turns evil and X is forced to fight him, but after the fight, Zero sacrifices himself to save him, and what happens ? Light forcefully makes X forget about Zero completely (I'm not even gonna mention the CD Drama who shows X didn't want to forget about him and begs for the process to stop). All of that bonding that lasted for 5 games ? GONE. And you failed at every single turn, the Earth is fucked, Zero's dead and turned into a maverick and X just forgot everything. *MARVELOUS*

For me, it'd be the Hazama ending from BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle: For those who haven't played the game, the story mode (well, the BlazBlue episode, anyway) has you make a series of dialogue choices that influence what ending you get. If your choices are more or less random, you get the neutral ending with Noel. If you put your trust in Rachel the whole way through, you get her ending, which is actually pretty funny. If you choose to play nice with the other worlds, you get the best ending. However, there was one path I could never figure out. All I knew at the time was that it would allow me to fight the final boss with Ragna/Jin. Turns out all I had to do was agree to Hazama's deal when he asked. Now, I hadn't played a BlazBlue game in my life up until then, but between his condescending attitude and Ragna's less-than-stellar opinion of the guy, I probably had plenty of reason not to trust him. But when I did, and he showed up in the final image and started talking about "his new toy" (i.e. the macguffin that caused the mess in the first place), I could tell I screwed up. The worst part is, from my understanding, making that choice overrides everything else. You could go for that best ending, but if you make that one choice, you've all but doomed the world of BlazBlue to Hazama's schemes. And like I said, I only chose that path because I wanted to fight the final boss with Jin instead of Noel for the fifth time. It's almost as though, just like Ragna in the story, I got tricked by Hazama, and he's laughing at me for letting myself be tricked.
You know what's even crazier, according to the DLC Story, The hazama ending could very much be the Canon ending! Granted it probably didn't happen the same way the original hazama ending played out, like maybe Hazama lucked out and found the crystal while everyone else was busy, but it's highly implied.
Yup, once you get that ending, the only way to not get the ending is by deleting and reinstalling the game and playing it while offline from steam. Either that or just get a new computer
I would have liked to see, and personally put Ace Attorney : Justice For All on this list in my opinion, as the bad ending comes after one of the hardest and best cases in the game where it's really hard to make a choice.
I just finished it and I completely agree. It's really good and the case is really hard. The case doesn't give you a second to either calm down, or stop getting new evidence to think about.
A couple notes about the Undertale bad end: First, it's not just a punishment for getting that ending, it's an ending that makes all the other endings bad, too. Second, as someone who tried, you can't cheat your way out of it; that ending rewrites the game itself, and Toby even tried to make that ending DELETE the game. (There's still relics of his attempts in the code, but he didn't figure out how to make that happen.)
I dont know if you went for that cathegory but the "bad endings" I enjoy the most are the "Tragic Endings" (like Silent Hill games often have) where things go horribly wrong for the protagonists and their town/country/world; they would be different from "Evil Endings" where you deliberately decide to do evil shit and get your way in the end - like Fable 1 evil ending for an example.
Not sure if this exactly counts, but the Revenged ending in The Henry Stickmin Collection is probably the “bad ending” of the series, Henry not only betrayed the government of their trust and became the leader of the Toppat Clan, but was later betrayed by the previous leader whom you took position of leader from, and later once Henry finds out where the Toppats are, he goes after them to seek revenge on them for betraying him even though he didn’t even earn the position as their leader, and after he successfully crashes their airship and defeats their leader, Henry is slowly dying after the crash, as he walks away he contemplates if what he did was worth it. And as he sits on the ground and looks up, he dies, alone, because in this path he betrays the government and the Toppats, so really, nobody really wins.
I see where you're coming from, but I'd argue "Toppat Civil War" is the big "bad end." Henry spends that entire route betraying basically everyone: he accepted Reginald's offer at the last second of his government mission; he used Ellie to escape the Wall and didn't return the favor; and Reg is absolutely disgusted with him when he learns about the aforementioned breakout (you could argue that Reg was just capitalizing on an opportunity to reclaim his position, but it's seen on other routes that he values selfless actions). In the end, all Henry has is two former Toppats and the guy they already had imprisoned, and the best thing they can do is take the escape pod and strike out on their own, only managing to seemingly kill Reg and RHM by accident on their way out. And if the endcard is any indication, Henry and his ragtag crew form an offshoot of the Clan that will likely oppose the main group (who, by the way, pretty much all hate his guts, especially their new leader, Ellie) for a long time. Was all that selfishness worth it, Henry?
This video is what got me into Danganronpa. After watching this video, because, I didn't want to suffer through who knows how many hours of watching gameplay, and I got bored within the first ten minutes, I looked up all the cutscenes. I got all of the executions...for all 3 main games as well as the spinoff, which I thought was also a main game. Being both confused and absoultely terrified, I couldn't turn off my light to go to sleep, as the terrifying black and white bear haunted my mind. The next day, I asked my friends about it. The one who actually reacted said they freakin' loved Monokuma. I went through my day as normal, and, when I got home, I went to watch it again, and holy crap, I am so glad I did. So thanks for inducing me to look it up, terrifying the lights out of me, and letting my curiousity go wild.
Kyokos death made me cry for an hour I, felt so bad for her. Then after I was done crying and watching old JonTron videos I went back into the game and realized I could just pick another option.
I think my original play through of the undertale genocide run is pretty interesting compared to others. Most people go for true pacifist and then go for genocide, at least that’s what I’ve seen. But I was challenged by a friend to beat sans. And since I didn’t know much about the game, I didn’t really care that much about the characters. Afterward I did true pacifist, and realized what I had done in genocide. I really wish I could have done pacifist first, because it would have changed my perspective completely.
I swear I felt my heart getting torn apart when I saw Kyoko's face filled with fear. She didn't deserve to die at the bad ending. (hate for after lessons has exponentially increased)

Sad endings in unpopular games I know: Ib all alone- I know there is a ton of these and there is only one good and true ending but next to "A Painting's Demise" and " Welcome to the World Of Gurenta" this particular ending happens when you unlock the dungeon and both Mary and Garry must be dead! You have to lay down and you will see the dialogue of Ib's memory of her ninth birthday. The game will repeatedly ask if you want to wake up. Say no. Witch's House true end- This end is a guilt trip and sad. You are playing as Viola and you are trying to escape the Witch House. I forgot how to reach the end but I will never forget what happened. In the true end, you learn that you are actually playing the witch(Ellen) and Viola soul is inside Ellen's body. Ellen will explain to Viola that she only used Viola so she can switch bodies. Once Ellen did so, Ellen cut the legs off of Viola's current body so she can't escape and take out her eyes so Viola can't see. Then, Ellen gave medicine to Viola so her voice is messed up. Then, Viola's dad will come and think that Ellen is Viola. He will see his daughter as the disfigured witch and shoot her two times. Old Doll- This ending is messed up but mostly messed up. You have to reach this end by saving father and leave Maria. You will find out that the dad wants to turn Aya(you) into a doll to save you're beauty. A doll will stop you from escaping and after a over dramatic dialogue, he will cut of your legs and make you into a doll. You will get a cut scene where you'll see Aya as a doll and that's it. But save father and Maria if you want to see Dio again!! Game list 1. Ib 2. Witch's House 3. Mad Father Please tell me sad unpopular game endings .

Surprised Drakengard didn't end up on this list. You can summarize the endings in Drakengard as "...it can always get worse" with each more difficult to achieve ending being a worse outcome, and the final one (at the time thought of as a joke ending) involving the main characters and giant boss monster being teleported to modern Japan and the protagonist and his dragon being shot down by the SDF and impaled on Tokyo Tower. This ending is also the starting point of the Nier franchise, with the dragon's corpse leading to research on magic and the giant boss monster being the origin of white chlorination syndrome which is what sets the Nier universe on it's entire trajectory.
I knew it! I knew! Undertale was going to be on the list at the end I was getting weird but it was on there if it was not.........It would not be a true Top ten bad endings in game!
Speaking of games where you see the consequences of individual choices, the first Ultimate Alliance is a cult classic that i am still salty that it cannot be ported to the Nintendo Switch. We coulda finally had a version with Link and Samus. Either way, it is one of the few games where you can see multiple bad endings based on your actions. Different evil forces or forces of nature can destroy parts of the world depending on what you find. For example, supervillains like Thanos and Mephisto will be more easily defeated without much casualties, but only with the help of Odin and the Ultimate Nullifier respectively, so you better find them. And on your way, make sure to also free Senator Kelly. He may be ungrateful at first, but he'll also warm up to his mutant enemies and support Xavier style facities that help mutants use their powers for good... as opposed to supporting conversion camps that abuse mutants into submission. But there is one part of the game where a negative outcome can not be avoided. You need to let either Jean Grey or Kurt Wagner (Phoenix or Nightcrawler respectively) die to save the other one. They each are prepared to let themselves die to save their friend. Whichever bad thing will happen depends on who is saved. With Phoenix saved, Mistique will be enraged from her son's death, blaming and assaulting Xavier, who dies a while later. The main team of heroic mutants will split up due to the death of their mentor. But is it better for one great man to die gueranteed? Or for many others to only potentially die? I ask this, because if Nightcrawler dies, the Phoenix Force saves Jean and angered that its greatest host was endangered, turns Jean into the Dark Phoenix, returning and attempting to destroy those who chose to leave her for dead. The sequel heavily implies that Phoenix was subdued and calmed down following this, due to her being playable in it and the 3rd game, the latter of which also having Nightcrawler. But it is still interesting in a game full of consequences for each choice, you kinda are forced to cause one of two tragedies, and before the sequels were made, you kinda weren't fully sure what the good choice was.
When speaking about Chara you instead of saying "he" you say "they" By the way, Chara punishes you for killing those that they loved and those that took them in, At one point the entire game could just corrupt so try to avoid Soulless Pacifist runs which is what happens when you get a genocide ending before pacifist

A lot of people wanted to take the blame off of themselves when the genocide ending was first discovered by blaming Chara, but as they say upon doing the run a second time: "You made your choice a long time ago."
They're just there to finish the job, and to let you know there's no going back if you get cold feet at the very end and decide not to destroy the world.

My favorite bad ending in Super Paper Mario is when the queen of the Underwhere(forgot her name) asks you to help find her daughter. You refuse multiple times and she finally decides that Mario will suffer an eternity in this canon’s variant of Hell. Just hearing that there is a possible ending where Mario is trapped in Hell until the end of time is absolutely unthinkable.

Watching the Kyoko execution so many times in between rankings made me almost cry--
It's sad because Junko wins... She enjoyed the torment she gave to Kyoko when Monokuma is teaching Kyoko about SEX... It turns out, that would be Hina's faith with the boys... I am really sure, there is nothing consensual happened between Hina and the boys except maybe for Naegi(there are hints that Hina like Naegi)... But the fact that she got RAPED by Togami and Hagakure to reproduce is a bad ending... Also, the fact that her children is 3 BOYS as well, oh boy you know what's gonna happen... Hina would be miserable for the rest of her life and basically became the tool for reproduction and Junko Enoshima would enjoy the despair every minute of it

DR1's bad ending is really my favorite bad ending because of what it really entails.
I flipping love Kyoko, so obviously I went for the good ending first. But of course I also wanted to see what would happen if I exposed her lie.
First off, the intermission in this video being the execution does not help my anxiety. I legit had to pause the video before the 4th entry to breathe and stop myself from a heart attack. Then the 4th entry WAS DR1 and well..... that didn't help....
I always saw the 5th Execution as one of the scariest executions for me, because unlike most executions, where you don't know HOW the character is gonna die, you KNOW INSTANTLY and the entire time is just anticipation. Especially since it's by crusher, so you get to hear the large thumps.
The best part is that it really can seem like a good ending in a way. The other five make it out of the killing game and live happily. But there's that... off feeling. It's moreso than just Kyoko dying and you never learning the truth. According to Kodaka, some... messed up things happen in that ending. For one, apparently Hina is the parent of all three of the children there. Which yeah, it honestly is kinda funny seeing Hiro's prediction come true. And apparently Toko also... randomly.... explodes... hence her absence from the picture. Which I would be fine with cause I dislike her, but it's just so... weird.
That's the thing. It feels artificial. Especially when you do consider what really happened in Danganronpa, with the entire world in ruins. And after seeing the true ending, knowing that Junko and the Remnants of Despair are still out there.... it really makes you question. Honestly, I wonder if that bad ending ever happened. It's entirely possible Monokuma made up that photo...
But those are just my thoughts. It was a good list.

One of my favorite bad endings is Call of Duty Cold War's bad ending.
You spend the entire game brainwashed to kill your allies and fight against what you believe in. At the end of the game, you break out of your coding and have the choice to fight alongside the people who only saw you as a tool for their own goals and were ready to dispose of you once you were no longer useful. Or turn against them and lead them into a trap where you take your vengeance by killing them and working to create the world you believed in and fought for. And that last part was the bad ending which was infinitely more satisfying.
Another thing about the Undertale ending, apparently if you do two genocide runs in a row even LOVE filled Chara is disturbed by it and flat out tells the player to do a different route. It's on TH-cam if anyone wants to check it out.

Not only thousands of people died and the Earth is now fucked up from the crash of Eurasia, but Zero turns evil and X is forced to fight him, but after the fight, Zero sacrifices himself to save him, and what happens ? Light forcefully makes X forget about Zero completely (I'm not even gonna mention the CD Drama who shows X didn't want to forget about him and begs for the process to stop). All of that bonding that lasted for 5 games ? GONE. And you failed at every single turn, the Earth is fucked, Zero's dead and turned into a maverick and X just forgot everything. *MARVELOUS*

For me, it'd be the Hazama ending from BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle:
For those who haven't played the game, the story mode (well, the BlazBlue episode, anyway) has you make a series of dialogue choices that influence what ending you get. If your choices are more or less random, you get the neutral ending with Noel. If you put your trust in Rachel the whole way through, you get her ending, which is actually pretty funny. If you choose to play nice with the other worlds, you get the best ending.
However, there was one path I could never figure out. All I knew at the time was that it would allow me to fight the final boss with Ragna/Jin. Turns out all I had to do was agree to Hazama's deal when he asked. Now, I hadn't played a BlazBlue game in my life up until then, but between his condescending attitude and Ragna's less-than-stellar opinion of the guy, I probably had plenty of reason not to trust him. But when I did, and he showed up in the final image and started talking about "his new toy" (i.e. the macguffin that caused the mess in the first place), I could tell I screwed up.
The worst part is, from my understanding, making that choice overrides everything else. You could go for that best ending, but if you make that one choice, you've all but doomed the world of BlazBlue to Hazama's schemes. And like I said, I only chose that path because I wanted to fight the final boss with Jin instead of Noel for the fifth time. It's almost as though, just like Ragna in the story, I got tricked by Hazama, and he's laughing at me for letting myself be tricked.
You know what's even crazier, according to the DLC Story, The hazama ending could very much be the Canon ending! Granted it probably didn't happen the same way the original hazama ending played out, like maybe Hazama lucked out and found the crystal while everyone else was busy, but it's highly implied.

I would have liked to see, and personally put Ace Attorney : Justice For All on this list in my opinion, as the bad ending comes after one of the hardest and best cases in the game where it's really hard to make a choice.
I just finished it and I completely agree. It's really good and the case is really hard. The case doesn't give you a second to either calm down, or stop getting new evidence to think about.
A couple notes about the Undertale bad end: First, it's not just a punishment for getting that ending, it's an ending that makes all the other endings bad, too. Second, as someone who tried, you can't cheat your way out of it; that ending rewrites the game itself, and Toby even tried to make that ending DELETE the game. (There's still relics of his attempts in the code, but he didn't figure out how to make that happen.)

I dont know if you went for that cathegory but the "bad endings" I enjoy the most are the "Tragic Endings" (like Silent Hill games often have) where things go horribly wrong for the protagonists and their town/country/world; they would be different from "Evil Endings" where you deliberately decide to do evil shit and get your way in the end - like Fable 1 evil ending for an example.

Not sure if this exactly counts, but the Revenged ending in The Henry Stickmin Collection is probably the “bad ending” of the series, Henry not only betrayed the government of their trust and became the leader of the Toppat Clan, but was later betrayed by the previous leader whom you took position of leader from, and later once Henry finds out where the Toppats are, he goes after them to seek revenge on them for betraying him even though he didn’t even earn the position as their leader, and after he successfully crashes their airship and defeats their leader, Henry is slowly dying after the crash, as he walks away he contemplates if what he did was worth it.
And as he sits on the ground and looks up, he dies, alone, because in this path he betrays the government and the Toppats, so really, nobody really wins.
I see where you're coming from, but I'd argue "Toppat Civil War" is the big "bad end."
Henry spends that entire route betraying basically everyone: he accepted Reginald's offer at the last second of his government mission; he used Ellie to escape the Wall and didn't return the favor; and Reg is absolutely disgusted with him when he learns about the aforementioned breakout (you could argue that Reg was just capitalizing on an opportunity to reclaim his position, but it's seen on other routes that he values selfless actions). In the end, all Henry has is two former Toppats and the guy they already had imprisoned, and the best thing they can do is take the escape pod and strike out on their own, only managing to seemingly kill Reg and RHM by accident on their way out. And if the endcard is any indication, Henry and his ragtag crew form an offshoot of the Clan that will likely oppose the main group (who, by the way, pretty much all hate his guts, especially their new leader, Ellie) for a long time.
Was all that selfishness worth it, Henry?

This video is what got me into Danganronpa. After watching this video, because, I didn't want to suffer through who knows how many hours of watching gameplay, and I got bored within the first ten minutes, I looked up all the cutscenes. I got all of the executions...for all 3 main games as well as the spinoff, which I thought was also a main game. Being both confused and absoultely terrified, I couldn't turn off my light to go to sleep, as the terrifying black and white bear haunted my mind. The next day, I asked my friends about it. The one who actually reacted said they freakin' loved Monokuma. I went through my day as normal, and, when I got home, I went to watch it again, and holy crap, I am so glad I did. So thanks for inducing me to look it up, terrifying the lights out of me, and letting my curiousity go wild.
This is probably my favorite story of how someone got into Danganronpa

I think my original play through of the undertale genocide run is pretty interesting compared to others. Most people go for true pacifist and then go for genocide, at least that’s what I’ve seen. But I was challenged by a friend to beat sans. And since I didn’t know much about the game, I didn’t really care that much about the characters. Afterward I did true pacifist, and realized what I had done in genocide. I really wish I could have done pacifist first, because it would have changed my perspective completely.

Sad endings in unpopular games I know:
Ib all alone- I know there is a ton of these and there is only one good and true ending but next to "A Painting's Demise" and " Welcome to the World Of Gurenta" this particular ending happens when you unlock the dungeon and both Mary and Garry must be dead! You have to lay down and you will see the dialogue of Ib's memory of her ninth birthday. The game will repeatedly ask if you want to wake up. Say no.
Witch's House true end- This end is a guilt trip and sad. You are playing as Viola and you are trying to escape the Witch House. I forgot how to reach the end but I will never forget what happened. In the true end, you learn that you are actually playing the witch(Ellen) and Viola soul is inside Ellen's body. Ellen will explain to Viola that she only used Viola so she can switch bodies. Once Ellen did so, Ellen cut the legs off of Viola's current body so she can't escape and take out her eyes so Viola can't see. Then, Ellen gave medicine to Viola so her voice is messed up. Then, Viola's dad will come and think that Ellen is Viola. He will see his daughter as the disfigured witch and shoot her two times.
Old Doll- This ending is messed up but mostly messed up. You have to reach this end by saving father and leave Maria. You will find out that the dad wants to turn Aya(you) into a doll to save you're beauty. A doll will stop you from escaping and after a over dramatic dialogue, he will cut of your legs and make you into a doll. You will get a cut scene where you'll see Aya as a doll and that's it. But save father and Maria if you want to see Dio again!!

So I’m returning to this like almost a year later after watching this *and let me tell you* during the time between the first time I watched this to now I got into the Danganronpa fandom and *now I know-*

There is a difference between Bad Endings and Non-Standard Game Overs.
Surprised Drakengard didn't end up on this list. You can summarize the endings in Drakengard as "...it can always get worse" with each more difficult to achieve ending being a worse outcome, and the final one (at the time thought of as a joke ending) involving the main characters and giant boss monster being teleported to modern Japan and the protagonist and his dragon being shot down by the SDF and impaled on Tokyo Tower.
This ending is also the starting point of the Nier franchise, with the dragon's corpse leading to research on magic and the giant boss monster being the origin of white chlorination syndrome which is what sets the Nier universe on it's entire trajectory.
I knew it! I knew! Undertale was going to be on the list at the end I was getting weird but it was on there if it was not.........It would not be a true Top ten bad endings in game!

Speaking of games where you see the consequences of individual choices, the first Ultimate Alliance is a cult classic that i am still salty that it cannot be ported to the Nintendo Switch. We coulda finally had a version with Link and Samus. Either way, it is one of the few games where you can see multiple bad endings based on your actions. Different evil forces or forces of nature can destroy parts of the world depending on what you find. For example, supervillains like Thanos and Mephisto will be more easily defeated without much casualties, but only with the help of Odin and the Ultimate Nullifier respectively, so you better find them. And on your way, make sure to also free Senator Kelly. He may be ungrateful at first, but he'll also warm up to his mutant enemies and support Xavier style facities that help mutants use their powers for good... as opposed to supporting conversion camps that abuse mutants into submission. But there is one part of the game where a negative outcome can not be avoided. You need to let either Jean Grey or Kurt Wagner (Phoenix or Nightcrawler respectively) die to save the other one. They each are prepared to let themselves die to save their friend. Whichever bad thing will happen depends on who is saved. With Phoenix saved, Mistique will be enraged from her son's death, blaming and assaulting Xavier, who dies a while later. The main team of heroic mutants will split up due to the death of their mentor. But is it better for one great man to die gueranteed? Or for many others to only potentially die? I ask this, because if Nightcrawler dies, the Phoenix Force saves Jean and angered that its greatest host was endangered, turns Jean into the Dark Phoenix, returning and attempting to destroy those who chose to leave her for dead. The sequel heavily implies that Phoenix was subdued and calmed down following this, due to her being playable in it and the 3rd game, the latter of which also having Nightcrawler. But it is still interesting in a game full of consequences for each choice, you kinda are forced to cause one of two tragedies, and before the sequels were made, you kinda weren't fully sure what the good choice was.

By the way, Chara punishes you for killing those that they loved and those that took them in, At one point the entire game could just corrupt so try to avoid Soulless Pacifist runs which is what happens when you get a genocide ending before pacifist
