  • Late last year Tilta announced the Hydra Arm Mini, a portable crane system for almost any vehicle. Since it's announcement we've been trying to get our hands on one. Once they went up for sale in January, the order was placed. After about another month of waiting for the shipment, we had received our new film making tool.
This video, produced by The Charis Culture and Starkin Films teams is an overview from the last 3 months, working with the system and testing it's capabilities.
    Agency: The Charis Culture
    Production Company: Starkin Films
    Producer/Driver: Steve Cucinotta
    DP/Camera/Editing: Dmitry Chislov-Starkin
    Crane-op: Jay Nadtochiy
    Gimbal-Op: Richard Redrax

Hey! Was wondering if you knew any limits for using this on a public street. I just assumed the boom pole would be too long for using without blocking traffic/permit. Liked the system, it just seemed a bit too long of an arm to be able to ride with on the top of my car when I tested it but I have no real info to actually back that up lol

Good question. General rule of thumb when doing any car to car shooting: Be safe and don't do anything stupid.
With that said, adhere to your local regulations regarding the maximum allowable length for overhanging loads for the best understanding of what's possible.
Since the arm rotates, assume it's like a piece of lumber that's longer than your vehicle forward or backward. Anything wider than your vehicle is going to be more troublesome.

I'm really interested in this product. But i get the sense it's pretty unusable. Every one of these overviews has crazy fast cuts and BTS of the gimbal getting tossed around roughly. I'd love to get a in-person Demo to see if it's worth investing in. I suspect it's not worth it unless using the Ronin 4D for it's extra Z axis stabilization.

What is the advantage of the dji gps module for the gimbal?
