My boss had one of these when I was working over in Germany in the 90's, and I got to drive it frequently on the Autobahn between Hamburg & Hannover where his businesses were located. That thing would sit effortlessly on 200KMH all day long and felt as quiet, comfortable and stable at that speed as most other cars do at 100KMH.

I drove mine up to 540.000km and it was still running strong when I sold it.

Very nice. Have owned a couple of W126 V8 models in the past. Some of the funnest cars to drive in the world. Yes, I would keep the wheels and just have them refinished. Very nice paint on it!

It is no question. loved by the well heeled, dictators, drug dealers and any fans of great engineering. I have a 1982 280 se here in cape town. its a weekend car and pretty sorted now. And Basically as the entry level 126 I am very surprised with how it picks up its skirts. Been Reliable too. i do an oil change every 5k . i think that keeps em going!

Haha yes the 6 cylinder W126's do have some get up & go when commanded! Well done for keeping your one going.

@@egsgarage Cheers mate, She is a work in progress. I also have a pretty mint 123 series 200 manual, that I pretty much use as a daily ( its remarkably fugal, uses less fuel than my Forester) In fact on a road trip up the east coast here with family
I got 850 kms out of a 60l tank. thought that was pretty good;).

Very nice W126, but consider losing the aftermarket chrome fender trim. Also, Ecopia is about the worst model of tire in existence. They use them on the Prius for mileage. Grab on a new one in the tire store--they have the thinnest sidewall you can imagine. Might be okay on a 2,000 pound car--that's about it. Cheers!

Thanks for your comment. Yes the chrome fenders...you either love 'em or hate 'em. Personally I'm not fussed. Main reason I've left them on is because I might not like whats underneath them! As for the tyres, the vehicle failed its yearly registration inspection and these were the only tyres available at the time.

That's true about chrome fenders--you never know what's going to be underneath! I have a Gen 1 W126, so sourcing 14" tires is difficult. I think Hankook and General are about my only options, without going to an expensive retro-brand tire.

It's a very good car but those chrome arch are not a good idea as they cause a lot of rust best to loose them.

no its not the best S class, the 126 chasis has alot of problems including needing headgaskets every 150,000 so-ish miles including timing chain replacement
