I used rice cooker to cook all my meals when I was in college. I don't have gas stove or induction in my apartment so I use it for noodles, soup, frying, steam and rice ofcourse. This is soooo fun to watch 🤣

The rice cooker works based on the pot's temperature, not time. It switches to WARM once it reaches just above 100°C or 212°F.
When cooking rice normally, the water in the pot will evaporate or be absorbed in the rice before the pot itself goes past the boiling point of water. At 5:22, you are right about that - with more moisture the pot will stay at 212°F for longer (in COOK mode) while it evaporates the moisture.

Fun fact: Rice cookers only works on cook if it reach a certain weight or heavier cause there is like a spring on in the middle which detects weight from the pot. It does this so the rice wouldn't burn.
Yes and no. The spring is there to prevent it from being switched to Cook without bowl, but it's too weak to react to even an empty bowl but with the lid on. The turning-off works separately from the spring. (At least separately from THAT spring.)

I bought a 10 cup Brentwood rice cooker just like the ones you used. I first boiled dumplings in it and I've done curried chicken, Jamaican rice and peas, ackee and saltfish... I've done so many things in this. I was so glad when my sister bought me another one and I use them every day. I'm cooking chicken as we speak.

Okay! I have watched this particular video from this series so many times because I want to make this meal. I have been trying to think of a romantic meal I can make for valentine's day for my husband and I this year that will be inexpensive, and then I remembered this video and that she says that mussles are inexpensive! I know Cornish game hens are pretty inexpensive, and obviously so are potatoes and the aromatics. I know I will have most of the ingredients for a cake on hand! I don't know if I'll use these exact recipes, but I am so excited!

I made a vegan chocolate cake in my rice cooker. It took three cycles. I had too much batter. It was still was light and tender.
Key to mini rice cooker;
Add water to raise heat and flip switch. You have to lift pan several times then flip switch.
Soup and stews are easy to make in the rice cooker. Mini lasagna, grilled sandwiches, fondue, casseroles, Mac and Cheese, hard boiled eggs for devilled eggs. Strata, frittata, quick breads...I love it. I found my little rice cooker at Vitacost for $12 five years ago. (( I should have my own channel.....))

I like the idea to use different types of foods and use stuff that are random always in your house to make it simple to eat anything that you want to eat
If it keeps on and off, you can use a part of eraser and stick it in the space for it to be in cook mode. We did that when we were students to cook fish or other things since we are allowed to use rice cooker.
