    If you ever want to make the puzzle worse:
    1. No edge pieces.
    2. Put that missing piece in a different random puzzle to give it an extra piece.

    • @Uragani
      @Uragani 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      Okay but there's a subtle community aspect possible with that second one. If there were one double, and one missing, for every puzzle and it was different puzzles? The community who bought it could get in touch with who has their missing piece. You never give them that piece, obviously, but you'd get to know the person who has your missing piece, and you get to be someone else's playfully bitter rival/villain by keeping theirs! But finding your missing piece holder is, itself, a puzzle.
      But then everyone could like... bond over being both unable to finish their own, but also be THE reason someone else can't finish theirs. A nice complicated low-stakes chaotic friendly rivals who can brag about two other people ("Yes this puzzle piece is infuriating Ann of Harbor Oak, who I control the FATE OF. We exchange cookies for the holidays... and this hole is from Stan Dinkley, from Nova Scotia, THAT JERK, we're meeting up for a joust this summer about it".). Like that island that keeps getting the flags replaced (and good booze left behind for the next team). I'd kinda love that.

      3. Make the pieces out of transparent acrylic with dots printed on the underside.
      4. Print the rest of the picture on a thermostatic bimetal plate where you have to place the puzzle pieces to fill in the holes. At night, when the temperature drops, the bimetal will snap and eject the pieces everywhere, so you have to finish it in one sitting.

    Please consider perforating the screwdriver rings. About 30 years ago, I broke my finger while wearing a cheap brass and stainless ring. The finger swelled enough that the ring had to be cut off. At the hospital they use a tool called a beaver which is disturbingly similar to a can opener to cut off rings. I guess most rings are golden and silver, soft metals. My hospital broke all six beavers and had to borrow two more from a different hospital to get my ring cut off. I believe I was in danger of losing the finger. all of the doctors and nurses were quite surprised, apparently these normally work very quickly. It was suggested to me that buying a ring of stainless steel was not terribly clever. I think it's a really cool idea. Seems like you could fix this potential problem by simply making a slight perforation at the narrowest portion of the ring.

    • @jpsimon206
      @jpsimon206 2 ปีที่แล้ว +116

      @@beaconofwierd1883 no joke. It was extremely unpleasant. I'm sure you could bring your ring to a machinist or a jeweler to drill two or three tiny holes in a line and fill them with silver solder. This would be functionally invisible while providing a weak point to cut the ring. The alternative, if the ring has a stone, have it Gypsy set. This is where the gem sits in a hole in the ring instead of in a bezel on top. The stone probably would not survive the beaver, but you would keep your finger. I have to tell you, losing the finger was not at all the main concern. Something called degloving will occur from the swelling, don't look this up if you have a weak stomach. It was so shockingly painful, I was begging them to cut off the finger. Apparently that's against some rule. To this day I don't have feeling in that finger. On the plus side, it turns completely White about 8 hours before a storm, so I got that going for me.

    • @beaconofwierd1883
      @beaconofwierd1883 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@jpsimon206 How much time do you have to remove the ring if you break a finger? Did you try to remove it right away and it was already swollen or do you have a few seconds to get it off before the swelling starts? Id’s probably just not wear the ring when I bike and such, but still, good to know if there’s a chance to pull it off or if the swelling happens while the finger breaks.

    • @jpsimon206
      @jpsimon206 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@beaconofwierd1883 it was essentially instant. The break made it impossible to slide the ring off. Inflammation was bad enough to cut all circulation in maybe 10 seconds? Not even long enough for you to really take stock of where you are hurt. Probably a good idea to remove it for biking, but then again, how often do we break bones doing an activity where it is expected? Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I never hurt myself in the machine shop. I was thinking you could increase production efficiency by 0.2% by combining the 499 missing pieces to ship the 500th puzzle. Bonus if every 500th puzzle just contained a random assortment of pieces from the previous 499 with many duplicates etc that would never be able to make a complete puzzle.

      @@nbrulois it would majorly decrease efficiency if they had to go through and make sure they were removing a different piece from each puzzle. You could just chuck 499 randomly removed peices into a set and it would save you from chucking them out but I don't think many people would want it

    Haha, when I was in hospital my friend gave me a 1000 piece finding nemo jigsaw puzzle. It was insanely difficult because in was hundreds of nemos, literally the entire thing was covered in orange nemos except for one small dory. I forgot the puzzle at the hospital when I left, but when I was back a year later, the box was still there, but patients had trashed the puzzle, only a few pieces remained, mainly covered in paint and glue. Love your work, Simone. When my wife and I were married nearly 25 years ago, we had a local jewellery designer make us snap fastener wedding rings from rose and white gold. They were great! Then, I lost mine 😞 then replaced with a simple one from a pawn broker, and lost that too. I'm just no good at keeping rings on my fingers! My mum recently gave me my late Dad's wedding ring... I've stopped wearing it because I've left it behind at work when I've washed my hands after making stuff... Now, it's just for special!
    Coincidentally, today one of my Year 9 jewellery students presented an idea for a ring with a hex attachment for driver bits. We're using sterling silver and brass, so the hex bit would have little chance when used with steel-based bits... Stainless would be great, but much harder for us to work with...
    Anyway, I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel a few months ago and have been enjoying your work and your story (love your puzzle table!). All the very best to you and your team and the store! 😊👍

    Yay!!!!! Simone's becoming an official actually a job selling inventions type of inventor! You've always been my hero, honestly. I've wanted to be an inventor ever since I was 6 and I misunderstood what my dad did when he explained to me his technician/programmer job. I totally forgot until I was 17 when I found my old drawings of my inventions (among them, a time machine and a watch that made a laser force-field) and then went to school for engineering, but I didn't finish my degree until my third attempt at 28, last year! And through that turbulent phase, watching you invent ridiculous and amazing things was always a part of the drive to go back to finish my engineering degree, or find another way to become the inventor I'd always to be. Thank you for making such amazing videos and chasing your dream, and showing it to us as you go.
