I’ve got Vstrom 650 so I’m a bit of Vstrom man. I’ve ridden the DE a few times and it’s a brilliant bike. That new engine is exceptional. If I had to choose I’d go for the more road focused RE version. It’s a bit lighter and cheaper too. Seat height is lower at 825mm. I would like to try the CF Moto though.

Morning two very nice bikes I think cf moto looks better I think but chocolate camshafts would make me take a back seat and give it a year or two to see how all these sort of off road bikes become well tested then choose the best one if I was in the market for one both nice bikes though ride safe mate

HI all, if I was 10 years younger, this would be a tricky choice, but alas I'm happier on a lighter 500cc Honda nowadays, the one thing I would also consider, will the Suzuki have a better residual value in a couple of years time? Time will tell i guess.

My big thing living in NZ where Cf Moto have a really good dealer network isn't reliability, we know its good, the big thing is growing fears of china invading Taiwan, experts reckon this will happen around 2027, then you will have trade sanctions and won't be abke to get parts.

How can China "invade" Taiwan? Taiwan is already part of China! Check recognised UN law before you believe US propaganda. That is why there are no foreign embassies in Taiwan ,including US, because it is not a sovereign country.

I'm tempted but more to go wrong tech wise , true of most bikes. Bikes on my radar at the moment... RE Himalayan 450, Motto Guzzi V7 or V85TT, and the Suzuki GSX8R Twin. A friend has a CFMoto, he loves it, over a year old not probs, but servicing and general bits have been a pain, for him at least. However, out of these two you mention I'd have the established VStrom for sure

If the money was not an issue it would be the Suzuki every time, But the price difference of your mates Vstrom was not that much at all, so if bikes like CFmoto, voge, etc are driving down the prices of mainstream bikes all the better for us. don't get me wrong the CFmoto is a great looking and good value bike, but it is not fair to compare it to the new Vstrom as it doesn't have the same pedigree, engineering or track record as the Suzuki. If your like me and you change your bikes every 2 -3 years the residual values over that period for none mainstream bikes are in most cases staggeringly low. My local dealer would not even take my pristine Mutt 250 scrambler as a PX last year for a new Xmax scooter, hopefully things will change in the future when these bikes have the opportunity to build up a track record

  • @robwilkguitar4458
    @robwilkguitar4458 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

What would I do? Well I'm pretty sure that over the next twelve months or so the prices will rise considerably. The waiting time of six months doesn't offer much chance of a purchase at the level that you've achieved.
The MG 3 came in at just under 10k when they first appeared on the market but look at the price now.
Anyway, the CF Moto would do me fine they'll not let you down, of course, our dealers of other brands will rubbish them.

Well presented TBW. A tough call indeed.
Personally, I've had an early version CFmoto 650MT & it was extremely cheap, well built for the price but nowhere near the tech of your model. In Australia, it's considered a A2 limited power but ran very well.
Ironically, I now have a Suzuki GSX-8S & while it is considerably more expensive, the build quality, brand reputation & resale will be better. But not by much.
I do love your version more so.
    Cheers

I’d get the newly released Voge 900. But for now I’ll stick with my tiger 800 at a third of the price because I still can’t afford £9k outright! The European and Japanese manufacturers need to change their pricing approach somehow that’s for certain.

I think your comparison with the original Japanese bikes coming to these shores and todays influx of Chinese bikes is a none started.
When the Japanese bikes appeared they were competing against many inferior products which routinely leaked oil, were outdated and often troublesome.
The elephant in the room is the residual value which has to be considered when making the initial saving upon purchase. The jury is out on that one I’m afraid.

Isn't it a disgrace that Suzuki doesn't make a clearly preferable bike ? The low price may be an argument. BTW, do you really think engine-, brakes- frame quality is at a comparable level ? Most Chinees product used to be made from 'pisbakkenstaal' as we say in Holland (urinals steel) do you think 'ByBrem' wil still work after af few years, does Brembo have anything to do with these or are they just Chinees copies ? For the same money Moto Guzzi offers great durable caracter bikes with shaft-drive that will still work after 30-40 years.

I would choose the Suzuki all day long . The fact the CF has extras makes no odds , I prefer my bikes with as least tech as possible & standard controls . I only ever fit a plastic givi styled top case & use soft luggage & never fit extra electrics like spot lamps , heated grips or sat navs . I might fit engine protection bars & fender & screen extenders . When the Japanese bikes first came out in I960’s unlike the early Chinese bikes , they were more reliable & oil tight from the off than the British & Italian bikes of the time . The only thing letting the Japanese bikes down at the time , was they didn’t handle as well as the Brit or Italian bikes , until around the start of the 1980 ‘s . The CF & other non Japanese badged Chinese produced motorcycles , still have to prove themselves long term for reliability , longevity , quick parts availability & consistent wide dealer network , before they can match the big Japanese four names . Taking a chance with more than 5 grand on a Chinese bike without a Japanese brand name on it , is a big ask on a Chinese brand with no pedigree no matter how good it appears to be . The fact CF moto had some association with KTM ,is hardly any thing to write home about , with their track record .

A good indication of value for money is the Guaranteed Future price. Potteries showing after 3yrs, the 800 MT Touring = £4.8k, Suzuki DE = £6k. I suppose it depends on if you're keeping long-term or not. I change every year or two, so id go for the one with best residuals. Both sound like great bikes to have though. Only as as a used proposition the MT would win over the DE.

British motorcycle industry marriage themselves right to the ground. Incompetent management destroyed the company as well as hostile labor unions. They kept shooting themselves in the foot so many times the Japanese had an easy time of taking over. When I bought a Honda the British motorcycle industry was already dead. I bought three of them brand new and I did not care if they had a warranty because they were a Honda. A reliable bike means you don't have to have a dealer Network because you don't have problems to deal with. My CX500 with 250,000 mi before the engine died. I put 36,000 mi on my little cm185 Honda twinstar in the year and a half that I had it. I then purchased my Honda CX500 deluxe. That bike serve me reliably for 10 years.
