    Honestly, if you haven’t purchased one of Susan’s majestic pieces on Etsy, you are missing out on one of the best artists of her generation. I have three of her pieces, and just purchased my fourth as a birthday gift (to myself). God bless you, Susan Jenkins. Always, and forever❤😊❤. Your pastel compositions are as good as anyone’s ((contemporary or in history).and your watercolor pieces are so affordable, people will kick themselves for not getting one for posterity.

      You are so amazing my friend. Wish I could give you a big hug!!! I would love to meet you this side of heaven, but at least I know we will have eternity together to talk about art, beauty... and Praise our Savior!!!! Hallelujah!!!

    Whimsical, that's the fun part. Much of your thoughts and ideas, makes up 50% of what is appealing. The rest is just shear beauty and style ;) 💜

    I like my pan pastels and as you have said you really don't need them all. I am building as I go. I have the set of 20 pure colors at the moment and extra white and black and blender. I have the gray scale set and the skin tone set as well. I really don't see the need to get the shades, I make them just fine by blending. I am going to add the extra dark shades and the tints eventually but I am adding other soft pastel brands instead first. I would rather spend a $100 on a nice set of half sick handrolls with some cool colors. BTW Blick's has this paper much cheaper but not the spiral bound. It's perfect practice paper- I spray Brush and Pencil textured fixative between every few layers (I use pastel and poly chromos colored pencil together). This paper is some of my favorite and half the cost of more expensive lines and I have a lot more fun with it.

      @monetcafe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that tip about the Brush and Pencil textured fixative! I'll have to try that.

    I have struggled to find the right medium that works on this XL sand grain paper but so far had not tried my pan pastels. So a huge thank you for this video, I am looking forward to trying the paper again and hopefully will be successful. Greetings from England, Helen x

    A great tip from a fellow artist is making your own pastel paper as pastelmat has doubled in price now. He suggested using toned mixed media paper and coating it with clear gesso. I bet you could also do that with this canson sand paper as well. Tfs

      You can use black gesso premixed, too, depending on the background needed. I have mixed in my own colors to tint the clear or white. For even more texture, ground marble can be added. One can also use intentional texture changes as a type of aid, smooth or if river, etc, a directional stroke, or swirl. A hardwood board panel or masonite makes a very firm support and can be a DIY. Don't use softwood.

      Oh yes, I have been making my own surfaces using clear gesso for a long time. I love your idea of using the black gesso and some of your other techniques suggestions. Thanks so much for that great tip.

    To me , watching you paint with the sponges first seems a bit easier than using the stick pastels. I am a novice pastel user and usually use them to give a few accents to my acrylic pieces.

    Love this video, Susan. I tried using the pans on Canson unsanded paper and it didn't work at all. I've never heard of the sand grain paper. I'll have to see if I can find that. They also work great on Uart 400, 500 and 600, too. Probably 800 as well but I've never tried that before.

    • @waikiki6031
      @waikiki6031 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "sans grain" means "without texture" and this canson paper is unsanded...

    • @yogibakshi2375
      @yogibakshi2375 ปีที่แล้ว

      Renee I also use the Cason unsanded paper with the pan pastel's . You should run the soft tool loaded with the pigment only once and then reload unless you want the paint to be showing the paper colour through the paint for different effect. It is a lovely medium.

    • @reneekroyer5104

      @@yogibakshi2375 I tried that and the pastel dust just fell off the paper. I also contacted Les Darlowe who does youtube videos and he uses the large-size sponges on unsanded paper. I asked him how he does it -- told him of my experience -- and he did not understand why I had the problem. lol So, no clue, but I still love them. I just use on sanded paper and they work great.

    • @yogibakshi2375
      @yogibakshi2375 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Renee Kroyer I use the triangle sponge mostly .I hope you do not rub hard because that make's the paper slick. Yes he is a very good artist .also see Susan's beginners tutorial for using pan pastel's maybe some help.

    The whole set IS expensive..so I bought one set at a time...one more to go! For instance... I started with pure shades and a white and black so I could mix colors!

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, that’s exactly what I recommend. Buying the pure shades and adding white or black to make tints and shades. I’m going to have another instructional video demonstrating this process. I totally get it about having to buy art supplies in segments. They can definitely get expensive.

    Susan what brand of pan pastels are you using? Do you have a color list of them to share? Also all your sponges, names and brand . Some of the sponges, larger ones kind of look like make up sponges. Thank you if you’re able to share. 👍🏼☺️

      Yes, absolutely. The paper is archival and with proper framing this piece will maintain it's color for many years to come :)
