Thankyou Susan for this delightful video on the usage of pan pastels...Time for me to use and incorporate them into my pastel paintings..Just want to further say how much I appreciate the proclamation of our "christianity"I thank God every day for the gift of"Faith".Merry Christmas to you and the ones you love...
I enjoy using pan pastels as under paintings and backgrounds and what you did was great love the colours and he is a happy snowman. Have a blessed Christmas Susan
I love the pan pastels!! I use mine for large areas and underpainting so I can use my schmincke and sennelier for the more detailed areas. I am excited to see what Golden is going to do with the pan pastels and if they're going to release more colors!!
I’m amazed that you can get such fine lines with your pastel sticks exactly where you want them. Whenever I try, it seems that I don’t hit the spot I’m aiming for. Is there a trick to this? Your snowman is really sweet, and the background is wonderful. Thank you for sharing this lesson with pan pastels. I’ve never tried them.
Hi Rosalie, I wasn’t always able to do that, but I have learned a technique of gently, tapping my pastel a bit to get an idea of where it’s landing. It’s sort of like I have to feel my way before making a final mark. Glad you liked the lesson sweetheart.
Love this!! Thank you so much. I have a few Pan Pastels and don't know how to use them. I'm looking forward to more of your pieces using this medium. Is there a reason for the paper color you chose? Also, could this be done all in Pan Pastels? Thank you so much and God Bless!
Merry Christmas and Thank you for all the great videos I’ve learned from for this past year! Have you considered a painting demonstration of poinsettias for Christmas? I think that would be great too!
Thanks Linda!! I actually have a reference image of some poinsettias saved to paint some time, but I’m running out of month and I’m not sure if I can get to it in December. Great idea though.
Love the Pan Pastels!!! I use them a lot in skies and for clouds, but I need to "branch out" on trees and figures!! I've used the bigger sponges, but not the smaller tools......I think this snowman will be a good segway to use the smaller tools!!!
No, actually, I’ve never tried that. The surface I used is water friendly but I’m not sure about adding water or alcohol to pan pastels. It might be a fun experiment.
This is just too cute! And I love that you did it in pan pastels. Did you know that Golden has bought the company? I’m going to try my own little snowman as soon as I get a chance. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and have a wonderful wonderful blessed Christmas!
Yes Vivian… I just found that out about the Golden company. I actually got an email from one of the inventors of Pan pastels who let me know of the news. She was very excited about that. You have a blessed Christmas too my dear.

Hi Kathy, and yes, I was actually amazed at how much I could accomplish with just the large sponge. I’m excited to do more painting with pan pastels.

I always use the gear icon to speed it up to about 1.5 times faster. You can also slow it down if you prefer.
Yes, I love that feature!
Merry Christmas Susan to you and your family! Thank you for all of the wonderful video lessons this year. This one was just delightful ❤
Thank you so much. It’s a blessing to know my videos are helping others.

Awesome Andrea…. I’m now really excited about using Pan Pastels more. Have fun sugar.
hello :-) have you tried alcohol wash with these? do they become granular (partially washed way) or sticky afterwards?
No, actually, I’ve never tried that. The surface I used is water friendly but I’m not sure about adding water or alcohol to pan pastels. It might be a fun experiment.

PanPastels slow down the process but you can get some interesting marks 👍
