    I appreciate that you actually did some ride tests and proved the fix. All the other videos I've seen don't go this far. Thanks

      Thank you. Two months later and tire is still good. That being said, a bit of a bulge has developed where the batch is and because of this, the tire wobbles a bit when it rolls. Functionally still good though. I think it's the the weight of glue and patch that is making it a bit unbalanced. I will try a smaller patch on next one.

    I used the same method to patch a gravel tire earlier this year. Ive ridden well over 1000 miles since, and I rode Unbound 100 on the patch. Zero issues.

      That's awesome! I'm pumped this worked. I think the lil patch kit was like $3.50 at Auto Zone. I have a Maxxis tire that had like 2 rides on it and I sliced it. This cut was a good half inch though and a bit into sidewall. I patched it like I did this one but haven't mounted it yet. I think it may work though...

      Good to know. I punctured a new specialized pathfinder tire last year doing Unbound 50 and the guys at the bike shop said to replace the tire. Those tires are sold out now. It seems wastefull to just toss a pretty new tire due to a .25" slice. Ill try to use this method to patch it.

    Good idea to use an inner tube to put pressure on the patch to set properly. I'm going to try that instead of a clamp. Nice work.

    I am glad did this vid. I had nail go through the top of my tire and out the sidewall where I couldn't plug it. Bike ties are the same as some car tires right now

    A carpenter’s clamp works good for applying pressure to the patch if you don’t have a tube handy.

    Great video. I have in the past used bicycle inner tube patches on road tyres with bad cuts so I was confident your fix would work. If the tyres are not front / back specific as a precaution I would put the repaired tyre on the back wheel as easier to steer with a back wheel flat than front.

    • @TysRides
      @TysRides  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! That's a good point. When I use these tires a bit more, I will rotate the front and back. They are the same tire so not front and rear specific.

    Thanks for sharing, I was looking for some experience on patching MTB tyres on the web and this is handy. Just as comment you don’t need to put a tube to press the patch, the air pressure will do the same without the tube. Al so noted only 2 oz of sealant was added, I am new with TBL tyres but I have seen recommendations for about 4 oz with 29in MTB tyres

    • @TysRides
      @TysRides  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad the video helped. You can add more sealant. I'm just cheap lol. I have 4 bikes that are set up tubeless and sealant gets expensive.

    This is great. There needs to be more info out there on this subject. How did you clean off the sealant from the tire? I've been wanting to do this but found the slimyness of the sealant made it almost impossible to adhere anything to the tire. Did you just use soap and water, or some other type of cleaner? Thanks for the video.

    • @TysRides
      @TysRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a little thing that comes with the slime kit that let's you rough up the tire before applying patch. Worked awesome. Over time, the tire developed a wobble where the patch was but it still worked. I used that tire for many more miles with no issues other than the wobble.

    I have a slow leak puncture that was OK during summer time. I just had to pump it up more often. Now it is winter and I am thinking how to fix this. I have a tire insert and not sure if it will rub the patch off the wall from inside. Installing an inner tube seems to be messy though...

    • @TysRides
      @TysRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Insert may help it actually. This tire I repaired is still good but there is a bit of a bulge in the spot the patch is. Makes the tire wobble a bit so I will probably get a new tire in the spring.
