    I'm a trainer in the hospitality industry, and we go through sheets! But something I learned while training to train our housekeeping staff is that many hotels, resorts, cruise ships... doesn't use fitted sheets. We start out with a flat sheet in place of the fitted sheet and Tuckett using hospital-style corners. We then place another flat sheet, then the blanket, then another flat sheet, in place of a duvet. All of the sheets go to laundry, and when housekeeping needs to put a bed together, they grab three sheets and go. As I absolutely hate trying to wrestle with a duvet cover, I have adopted this in place of a duvet. But what it means is, buying a sheet set is absolutely pointless since I don't need a fitted sheet and I now need three flat sheets. Either way, she's correct.
    And store-brand OTC meds will generally have a note on the front of the Box, directly comparing them to their name-brand counterpart. You don't even have to read the ingredients. The store wants you to buy their brand, so they put that information front-and-center where you can find it easily.

      So how often do blankets get laundered?

  • @jazzmoon77
    @jazzmoon77 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I prefer the sheet sets because it’s almost impossible to colour match pillowcases to sheets when buying separates vs sets. Also I hate putting new duvet covers on so I prefer to wash a top sheet every week and save washing the duvet cover every month or 2

    • @adedow1333
      @adedow1333 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same. I don't use duvet covers and I get after my kids for not using the flat sheets because I don't want to have to wash the blankets every week.

      This list did not make sense to me at all. Also, I got confused about the bed sheets, she said she does not use flat sheets.
      I'm Mexican, and maybe I did not understand, but in my family sheet sets are essential. Not only it’s esthetically pleasant, but it's great to keep the organization of your sheets. I only have 3 sets and I rotated one each week. I fold the set sheets together and use the pillowcase to hold them. Does she has several sheets and does not use flat sheets? Estoy confundida (confuse)

    Great advice as always!
    One caveat - if you’re buying OTC medicine for a kid, the brand name often tastes better. I was skeptical, but have tried my son’s ibuprofen and acetaminophen and the brand name almost invariably tastes better. A funny exception is Pedialyte where the generic pineapple flavor is the most palatable flavor.

    I like that: you can afford anything; you just can't afford EVERYthing. Lol. My husband is Chinese. We have seven kids (mostly all grown now) but I just never bothered with flat sheets except for my husband and my bed. Recently, our 32 year old moved into his new apartment and I noticed he made the bed with both a fitted and flat sheet, but he slept on top of both of them. Lol. Nice set of sheets though; on sale of course. Good advice, thank you and God bless. 🌹

    Miss Vivian, Use the Flat sheet as a CURTAIN or make More Pillow cases for your bed or even a Pillow case for a Long Body pillow. I’ve been doing this for decades. I would surprise my children (when they were younger) when they would come home from school. They would come home to a New Bedroom & Brand New Bedding of there Favorite characters, with a Matching curtain. My children are Adults now and they Still remember them days. Even my daughter still carries on this little tradition I started way back when. I Still Love surprising my Grandchildren like this & they Love it as well.

    Great tips! Here’s also how I save:
    - 100% with the swimsuits - they are totally overpriced. My target swimsuit is exactly the same quality and totally cute.
    - same thing for pricy brand name pajamas, can buy just as comfortable at any dept store rather than fancy brand
    - here’s another one that’s controversial: carry on luggage. While I invest in really quality and high warranty check in luggage, for my carry on it tends to get beat up a lot and the expensive brands aren’t that much better than the cheap ones you can find online. Don’t get sucked into paying more for features like usb charging. No one charges their phone on their luggage it’s kind of a hassle to fish out of the dedicated luggage pocket anyways, just throw your power bank in your backpack. And, if you travel to developing countries the last thing you want is to walk around with a sign that you’re a lucrative target for theft with a super fancy luggage.
    - fancy coffee. I bought an entry level espresso machine and make fancy lattes and cappuccinos at home at a fraction of the cost. Have recouped my investment and then some!

    Love these! These weren’t the typical “cut out coffee and avocado toast” items I thought they’d be. I have also struggled with buying beauty or skincare sets when I only needed the one thing. Or a ton of back-up items/too much in bulk. Or specialty kitchen tools/home decor/homeware when I don’t have a place of my own yet! So I don’t need martini glasses or specialty cooking tools yet. The sheet sets and expensive swimsuits spoke to me haha. Luckily I buy secondhand and the swimsuits I’ve bought were usually brand new or worn just once or twice. But I don’t need more!

    The reason flat sheets were invented was in our past people difd not bathe as often. Thus being said, people would use two sheets to keep their bedding i.e. top blanket cleaner.. You would wash your sheets once a week, but wool blankets would not be washed as often.

  • @yuqing2006
    @yuqing2006 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Disagree with some of your tips
    1. speciality kitchen tools
    Small spatula and garlic press and other gadgets can save you a tone of time and ensure your safety and they are quite cheap. If there is a dish you have to make or if you have a skin problem these tools might be a better option.
    I have mini spatula for over 10 years and I have a grater for 10 years after I realised it is better to grate my garlic than spending lots of money on skin medication.
    I have a dishwasher that saves me plenty of time.
    when I don't have a dish washer. chuck all items in near 100degrees hot water and it saves a tone of cleaning time.
    2. Full sheet sets
    the advice you should be giving is that to check the contents of the set. I feel many people forget to check what the set contains. Personally I have always been buying my fitted sheets seperately, however I'm having a skin issue so I might be going for the luxury genuine cotton one to help with my skin. My mother is Chinese and can't speak English. she only buy the sheet sets because she wanted a fitted one. but none of them come with fitted sheets. These days sheet sets does not have a fitted sheets like 30 years ago.
    3. branded drugs.
    I agree with you on that one. However, branded drugs do work a bit different. I found that the branded drugs is gentler on my stomach or works faster. However, being the cheapskate I am I use the generic brands. the generic brands work but I just fart a bit money after taking it. People should consider their own circumstances. I stopped taking branded drug name 10 years ago when I moved out because before that my mother won't touch the unbranded stuff as she wasn't sure if what it is, she was use to the branded logo.
    4. swim suit
    I don't like the advice given. If you are going to use it once buy something cheap. If you feel you'll use it again and can give it to a younger siblings buy expensively quality ones. Since I was a child my family buy me quality swim suits. these I have pass it on to my sister one at a time. Always feel the quality and judge whether it will last. I have swim suits that have been used lots of times and they are still in good quality.
    ....... plus the thick fabric makes me look less fat.

    • @username00009
      @username00009 ปีที่แล้ว

      A garlic press doesn’t save time in the long run if you know how to properly mince garlic. Watch a few videos to learn; the hack that helped me is to sprinkle salt on the sliced garlic before beginning to mince. Obviously, this doesn’t resolve your skin issue but may help someone else.

    • @emiliabolsas
      @emiliabolsas ปีที่แล้ว

      My mini spatula helps me use up the entirety of a jar or bottle and is thus a money-saver. Some tools, such as a mandolin or apple slicer, can help you achieve better uniformity in your ingredients and they will then cook at the same rate. Additionally, tools can help those with mobility issues, something Vivian doesn’t encounter much at her pool parties. 😏

    I'm really big on saving myself time, and I'm a really slow chopper in the kitchen, so some kitchen gadgets _are_ a real value add for me, but I agree, you don't need most of them. I have done all my cooking for the last year in three saucepans, one frying pan, a cake pan, on a stove, and a toaster oven.

    I am also afflicted with severe migraines (variously diagnosed over the years as T-stroke). Once, I was in the beginning stages of it and it was hitting hard, and I just happened to be at the chiropractor's office. He asked what's wrong. I told him and he adjusted my neck and the migraine literally was gone instantly! I am not even exaggerating when I tell you how that I literally felt it flow out of my head. It was the most amazing feeling, and I burst into tears afterwards because of all the times when my kids were little and I'd suffered through days and days of migraines. While the prescription pain meds helped a little sometimes, I'd never had instant relief like that before. So now, if I even feel a twinge of a migraine, I go straight to him for a neck adjustment and it works every single time.
    And yeah, top sheets have their uses, but not on a bed; they tend to make the blankets slide off in the middle of the night. However, a top sheet is awesome to spread over your made bed if you want to do something like rearrange your clothes in the closet or pack a suitcase that's sitting on the bed.
    I keep seeing people saying that they prefer to buy cheap swimsuits. Well, that's another money scam! Buy one expensive one, and it was be way more comfortable an will last actual years! Most people spend 30-50 dollars on a new one every year. I spent 100 on one five years ago. It's still beautiful and still comfortable for all day wear. And instead of spending 30 a bunch of times and going through all the harrowing BS of trying on swimsuits, I have one that I know fits every time.

    Kitchen tools are super useful for people who cook a lot and eat at home mostly or 💯 like myself.
    Full set sheets are a must. The flat sheet is a protective layer between you and the comforter or blanket. Since we don’t wash comforters/blankets as often as the sheets cuz they weren’t designed to be washed as often as sheets, therefore the flat sheet has a very important function.
    I agree with the last two…buying generic OTC meds is not much different than the brand name stuff and is cheaper. But…if the generic OTC meds have different binders/fillers that you’re not used to, then you may have an allergic reaction those, and I know this from professional and personal experience. Also, I agree about the bathing suit issue. I never buy super expensive swimsuits, cuz they get damaged easily if not cared properly. Although I bought good quality ones and I’ve had them for 14 years and they’re still in great condition, yet didn’t spend tons of money on them.

    So let me see if I understand this, “pricy” kitchen tools like garlic press (approx. $10) spatula ($5), and lemon juicer ($5) throw you off the edge financially but eating out doesn’t 😅 it is more likely you’ll spend more on tip and tax during one outing than buying these tools which can last you years

      I have an air fryer and a jamie Oliver pot and a very expensive grill. not going to lie but those items I can afford and those item literally save my life. because when you're sick it's important to use an appliance that can self turn off. the stove does not self turn off.

    Specialty kitchen tools are a waste for anybody. But knowing how to cook is a money saver as well, instead of buying your food from a restaurant. The better you are, the faster you are, so you will save time if you are good at it.

    Another comment about migraines: Bad posture can cause them, especially if you spend long hours in the same position. You can look for exercises on TH-cam (keywords: posture, migraine, chin tuck), but my chiropractor also swears by the Posture Pump. I haven’t tried one yet because it’s pricey so I just do the wall sit / chin tuck exercise that I found on TH-cam.

    I think the message here is to look at how you, personally, do things and see where you are maybe spending a bit extra and can change that up. So glad you didn't use the "coffee" bs thing. Sometimes it's just a matter of thinking about the details.

    What is a flat sheet for?

  • @SuperSalchipapa
    @SuperSalchipapa ปีที่แล้ว +4

    For me that sheet made sense once i understood the reason what existed for. Is like an envelope. U get into those 2 sheets and you can then wash them once a week and keep you bed clean, and get that one sheet dirty and sweaty. And u can get wash the bed cover once every other week or once at month depending on how dirty it gets. If you dont use it the bed cover will need to be wash more often.

    Any suggestions on getting a good CPA or financial planner? I recently got an inheritance and need to find trustworthy professionals .

    • @username00009
      @username00009 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ask people you know personally for referrals. Ask middle-aged and older people who are always put together but unassuming (example: men in khaki shorts and polo shirts) and drive well maintained cars (you’re looking for people who fit the descriptions from The Millionaire Next Door). Vet everyone. I think I remember the FINRA site having a section to help investors make sure a planner is the right fit. The Money Guy channel may already have a video on this topic, and the ChooseFi podcast may have something too but they tend to focus on interviewing people who manage finances themselves.

    I know this is not in relation to this video but I’m in the middle of trying to figure out what is the best route to go when deciding how to go about getting into a new home.. I’m planning to move specifically to an area that is very flooded with many homes in the market and an average of 450k price .. what do you suggest/predict would be the best decision in terms of waiting, or which lenders or companies to go with. I am also a healthcare worker.

    1. I USE some of those specialty tools - A LOT. So I’m gonna keep buying cos I’m a pleb and can’t afford to eat out every day.
    2. I buy sheets sometimes as a set, sometimes individually. But I decide what I need and purchase that. We DO use a flat sheet because it is MORE HYGIENIC THAN JUST SLEEPING UNDER YOUR DOONA. And I live in the tropics so we rarely have anything other than a sheet over us.
    3. Agree on the generic products, in most cases. There a few exceptions but people can deal with the few.
    4. I’ll have to disagree on the the bathers and so will 99.99% of swimmers. We buy chlorine resistant swimwear than often costs AUD$100-200 but they LAST. So I’ve got no clue what you’re doing to your bathers, I think you need to take a little more care TBH.
