I was watching the local news this morning about a traffic crash and "how terrible for emergency services crews". Let me be brutally honest as a paramedic for 22 years; cops and firefighters have said the same thing; we LOVE the "big jobs". They're an opportunity to practice the skills we learnt, and put all that training into use. The "official" statement is "we don't wish for major incidents to occur, but realise they're inevitable and so we want to be the ones there". Remarks when assigned such jobs; "YES, cool!".

So, did the guy live?!?! I don't appreciate it when they leave out the conclusion. Also, I'm always amazed at how calmly everyone is moving when seconds count. There is never any running. Watching medical shows makes me expect that if there is a person with heavy bleeding who may have only minutes to live, they would rush a bit more on the ground.
Paramedics never rush - you're more likely to fall over carrying all the heavy equipment and then you could have 2 casualties, and no one there to help the originally injured person. It's far safer to move slower to reduce that risk. As for the guy, there's several other replies saying he was pretty badly injured, spent a lot of time in hospital, but survived
If you watch a lot of these Heli med programs they very often say that they will not run in case they slip and fall and get injured themselves, and the bags are not light i lifted one once a a show and was surprised at the weight of them.
The emergency number 999 (fire/police/ambulance/coastguard) was introduced in the UK in 1937 after a delay in phoning for help to a particularly tragic fire. It was the first country in the world so to do. The USA finally got around to introducing 911 in the 1960s some 30 years later.
I know in some shows they record pretty much constantly over a few days or weeks, and then the editor watches all the footage and cuts together the stories that are interesting and the people involved give consent to.
Here in India we are just seeing videos like this and expecting from government to medical facilities like this.. But I knew it is not possible from governments even we are paying higher taxes and taxes on everything things we travel, eat, purches, Etc.. But we still love my country.. How strange!!
