Anneka revisits Lorna of Artic Rainbow Malamutes in order to find out exactly how to groom one of the world's largest and furriest breeds. The Alaskan Malamute is a challenging breed to keep and this guide will prepare the owner in the skills needed to care for this breed correctly.

I had a Malamute for a little over 16 years. When I brushed her, I would leave some of the fur on the back lawn for the birds. They used it as lining in their nests. Was so cute to watch them flying off with the fur in their beaks.

Had a Samoyed, after grooming had enough hair to make another dog. Love that old boy, really miss him.
I've had 6 samoyeds in my lifetime. 3 at once for a few years. The hair is a mess. But I always tell people they should bring a samoyed into their life at least one time, because you'll never have a companion quite like they are. They will change you forever.
@@K31TH3R My old dog "Snow" lived to be almost 18. Sadly as a puppy he stepped in a damn spring trap and lost a front leg. Never slowed him down. We always said we had 3 feet of snow around the house. Really loved that old boy.
@@areceemaz Wow, 18! 3 feet of snow, love it. My oldest only made it to 12, and the others between 6 and 10. I have two soft coated wheaten terriers now, they're loads of fun in their own way, but they just don't have that special intuitive spark that sammy's have. I'm sure you know what I mean.
@@K31TH3R I grew up lucky, my folks thought every dog should own a kid, so I've always had 1-3 dogs around me. Now in my 70s there has been many dog in my life, but old Snow holds a special place.
I had a husky and samoyed but my German Shepard died😭

I cannot get over how adorable these gentle giants are. they are so wolf-like but so benign and cuddly. they make my heart melt.
She said “if you’re fussy about your house this is not the dog for you” my somewhat insane houseproud mother was forced into having my first doggy Suhki an alaskan malamute, she said she hated her and the mess, that lasted a week, then every night for 12 years Suhki would lay with my mom on the sofa. Once you have a malamute in your life everything changes. I was a lost little boy with depression and autism but i didn’t know, my Suhki was my best friend for 12 years and i would never have made it through with out her! Miss you honey bear!

Blew out one of our Huskies at a do-it-yourself dog grooming parlor. When we finished, there were clouds of fur clinging to the overheads and drifting down the dog food aisles. It was amazing. One of the staff showed up, didn't say anything, just handed me a broom and dustpan.

Some people think this dog breed is scary... but think about it I rather be in a room with 20 of these rather then being in a room with a Chihuahua🤧🥺😂🥴🖤♥️
It's said that a chihuahua is half hate, half tremors. It is also said that the anger of a dog is inversely proportional to its height. That's why a malamute is such a floof, and chihuahua is a demon.
@@KlavierMenn Any dog can be reactive, it just all depends on how they're socialized. I have four chihuahuas and they're all so sweet, but their aggression stems from their small size. Imagine being one of the smallest dogs in a room with giants - chihuahua's aggression primarily come from having insecurities. They don't like to be grabbed, you need to sort of ask permission first. One of my chi's loves to be carried, the other two do not so I don't pick them up when I don't have to. It's all about respecting their boundaries. But saying a whole breed is evil doesn't help, it's like saying all pit bulls are evil when they're most certainly are not.

I had a gorgeous 90 lb female Malamute for 17 years. An amazing dog and companion. What a privilege it was to have her. Will always miss her I now have 2 Keeshonds and they are lovely dogs and very easy to live with. You just need to make peace with the hair... 😊

My dad works at the USA army and they started considering about having a Malamute because of their strength and stubbornness.

Even my 3 Pomeranians are very stubborn LOL! Not in a mean way, and it’s actually cute! They’re spoiled, I admit! But they also know when Mom means business! 🤣 My rescue dog that no one else could handle so I ended up with her - so fortunate for us both - does a little stubborn thing at night when it’s time to go out before bed, where she refuses to come. I pretend growl at her and go over to the couch and she flips over so I can scratch her tummy-then she’ll deign to come out!!! 🤣 I love those dogs! It takes a special person to understand stubborn breeds tho!

When I lived about 28 miles outside of Fairbanks, Alaska...we had 2 Samoyed Huskies, a Malamute Husky, a Siberian Husky, a German Shepherd, and a half Wolf; half Shepherd dog we brushed their hair whenever they started to shed. My siblings and I got all of the loose and matted hair off our dogs. It is my opinion that the husky breed dogs should stay in cold climate weather. They don't thrive very well in hot weather climates.

Just saw an Alaskan Malamute in Honolulu. I felt like the dog was hot as hell. I dint think they should be allowe in Hawaii

I’ve never done this, but I’ve heard that spinning their fur makes very luscious, beautiful sweaters. Kind of like mohair.
Rescued a Muttly from the Dumb Friends League years ago. Neeka has since passed on to the Rainbow Bridge. She was an awesome dog and best friend! I’ve always called Malamutes, Muttlys. It’s a term of endearment for me.
Except when the sweater gets wet. We all know what that smells like.
I have a dog fur hat from Alaska and I have met a few of those giant teddy bears. I hope maybe I may have met the donor(s).💗🐾🎵🎶🎵🐾

My aunt had one of these dogs. Such a beautiful dog. They are super high maintenance and require a lot of time and effort. She passed away unexpectedly and I didn’t want the dog to go to a kennel so I took him. I am never home, so I ended up finding him a better home than mine. He now lives with a family who owns a massive farm. He is now very happy since he has so much room to explore. These dogs are not meant to be house hold dogs they need to roam and explore the outdoors. It’s amazing how much happier the one I had looked when he had a way to release all his energy.

Grew up with a friend who had a female "mute". Sweetest creature ever! Never a bark or a howl. Amazingly tolerant of "baby" sister who thought it was her "living" teddy bear toy. NEVER a growl, snarl or bark. Just got up, shook head, walked away to find a quieter "spot" to settle in.
I love these dogs. They're stubborn af, but they're hilarious and their ability to communicate their displeasure, happiness, sadness, etc. is truly one of kind and shows how remarkably intelligent they are. Please, if you do not have time to dedicate to them, do NOT get one, or any other animal ftm. I also advise you brush them daily. It takes no more than 30 mins.

Lorna is my animal care teacher and she brings the dogs in every week. They are honestly some of the nicest polite dog I have ever met! Elvis comes in more and he is such a big softy who is just for belly rubs and taggy is such a cuddle bug. Lorna is such a lovely teacher who teaches so well and understands our needs and she made me the teacher assistant recently so I get to help with the class!!!!
I ain't gonna lie, there gorgeous, but I'd be pissed to be living next door. Lol

completely agree regarding tooth cleaning. if you give them bones frequently you should never have an issue with dental caries.

Beautiful dogs
These dogs are beautiful animals. We got are malimute as a little pup.
I had my beloved Japanese Akita... she lived to be 15 yrs! Akitas have the same type of coat...I brushed outside, too. nesting birds used the loose fur for nests. And during the winter, smaller animals took it for more warmth in their den. I still miss her terribly...13 years later❣

I am fussy about my house. I have had my malamute puppy since he was 8 weeks, I was in an apartment at the time and I learned alot and my pup learned alot too. Because the apartment is was so small I had to confine him to half of the living room. He had 2 windows with 2 chairs infront of them so he could go up and look out the window. A 10ft leash on him whenever I wasn't playing with him tied to his cage. People around the neighborhood saw him in the window this massive dog and would come to pet him or give him treats. I'd take him for a 6 mile hike daily in at around 6am. It would be cold and would get him tired for the rest of the day. He had 2 meals a day, a cup of boiled beef, a cup of chicken, 2 cups of kibble. I would put kibble in an ice tray and fill in water and freeze it as snacks when it was hot. I deshed him 5-10 min daily. All that and now he's the perfect dog. He prefers to stay in his cage or in the window. He only goes around the house if someone takes him.
Such a wonderful breed of dog that need a lot of care to keep them at their healthiest. I wish I could cuddle one of these fluffy bears right now
