Me to, I was a child years after it came out, but I also lived on the Hana Barbra cartoons that my parents ones on. Think something like the Super Friends. This reminded me of that more than the shitty transformers. I was surprised that he didn't mention a the great animation for the budget and paying homage the a crappy animated shows like transformers. Though, to be fair, those shows had an excuse too.
I was one of those little shits that *LOVED* Buzz in the Toy Story movies. So much so, that when this movie came out, I pestered my parents to go out and get the VHS of it. I watched it religiously for MONTHS. I'm actually kind of surprised that I could recite every line Doug edited into this video.

This show is literally a parody of cheesy 1980s sci-fi animations. The only problem is, is that nobody knows that. It's meant to be a daft Pixar spoof of Thundercats or GI Joe. You could say it was the LAST of those shows, before the modern era truly set in. I thank this show, for being so fun!
Well, a lot of the people who worked on Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, also worked on Kim Possible. And they're going to be working the new Big Hero 6 cartoon coming out next year.
Yeah, and most of the cast is coming back to reprise their roles too. Well, except for the voice actors of Fred and Wasabi. Also, it's going to be 2D animated

The series had the rare virtue of being both self-aware *and* well-written. I *loved* the pilot movie; it was so good that it has officially raised my expectations for TV pilot movies too high for most other offerings to meet them. I'd even rate it higher than the 3D _Star Wars: the Clone Wars_ TV series pilot movie.
How It Should Have Ended: Warp reveals himself and Zurg appears. Buzz tightening his teeth: Warp, you despicable traitor! How did dare that?! I really liked you!! Warp smiling cunningly: You want grim and gritty , Lightyear? Happy to play the part! He then starts to laugh maniacly. Buzz looks with his mouth wide open and Zurg is totally still. Zurg: Uuum... Buzz? Buzz with a pathetic voice: Yes, Zurg? Zurg: Do you think what I am thinking right now? Buzz: Yes. Buzz and Zurg together: We really need to help him!!!
OH MY GOD! THis show was my CHILDHOOD! I renember watching it on DVD at my dad's condo every sunday afternoon. And I renember it being EPIC AF! i wanna find my old copy and give it another whirl now that i'm older. Thank you Doug for the reiveiew:D

I LOVED this movie as a kid. I had a Buzz action figure that I took everywhere. And I remember in 2nd grade the class had a movie day where we had to choose between this and Little Mermaid 2. I hated the latter and was a huge tomboy so I voted along with all the other boys to see it and we did. The girls were pissed at me because my vote tipped the scale but it was so worth it. :)

Booster is supposed to be the heart, the childlike wonder, the Ray Stantz. Great show, actually. Funnily enough, Tim Allen is Buzz in this pilot film, but Patrick Warburton plays him on the show (I like Patrick's version a bit better, I think, ha).
Nathan Lee James Patrick is suited to the role on the show. He's got a classically heroic voice, yet is quite a funny guy. Tim Allen was great in the movies, though.
No way! Tim Allen plays Buzz WAY better than Patrick Warburton! I don`t like this show or any of the characters in it. The movies are much better in my opinion.
At 0:46, he says that the movie opens with a scene in Andy's bedroom. Andy's toys watch a 📼 of the movie. Pretty appropriate for the time period, if I do say so myself. When I watched this movie as a child, I was expecting another scene in Andy's room after the movie, in which the 📼 turns off, and Woody asks everybody how they enjoyed the movie. I remember being deeply disappointed when that didn't happen.
Actually Tim Allen wasn't Buzz's only voice only for the original DVD, it was re dubbed with Patrick Warbuton (?) when it was released as the first 3 episodes of the show
Originally, it was going to be the episodes with Warburton, but then the producers realized how good the episodes would be as a pilot film, so they did some touching up to the animation and redubbed Warburton with Allen for the film
This show WAS my saturday morning cartoon growing up. I loved his show so much! I must've seen every episode by the time it stopped airing. I loved the characters so much that by the end of it all I had forgotten it was a product of Toy Story all together. For kids of the time, it was fantastic!
"Are you sure the plus end went to the plus part, and the MINUS END WENT TO THE MINUS PART?!?!" I loved this movie as a kid, and I STILL use that line. XD And you're right, a lot of the comedy is "smart," but kids could understand it too--like that battery joke! The film was definitely at the peak of Saturday Morning Cartoon material!

Here's the thing: every non-overweight humanoid character looks hot when you put them in a form-fitting space suit. It's like the animator's shortcut for sex appeal.
Its a shame this show has pretty much been forgotten by the mouse and the franchise. You can blame Pixar and John Lasseter - he apparently didn't like Disney's attempted milking of Toy Story. At least we're getting a successor to this in the form of the Lightyear movie coming soon Edit: Aaaand the movie sucks.
YES I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!! This movie was one of my favourites when I was a kid, and even now I'll re-watch it from time to time. The scene where Zurg takes over Commander Nebula and Buzz and co find him still gives me the chills. And I do appreciate how...weird the humour is. Glad you liked it!
This is my favorite movie of all time. I remember in the year 2000 where my 4 year old self would watch this on VHS over and over and over and over and over and over again and all these years later I'm still not sick of it.
Oh my goodness I am so glad to see you make a video on this. When I was a kid this (referring to specifically this pilot film (I didn't get to watch the actual show much)) was one of my favorite shows. Even just by watching the few clips that you put on here I could remember being amazed by it as a kid. Thank you for reminding me of it and letting me relive that moment for just a few seconds.
One of the best comedic bits in my option is the subtitle thing that tells us the name of the place or room the characters are in and it will occasionally break the fourth wall. Like when it labels one of the shuttle rooms of star command and it tells us that it's off limits and when Myria sneaks in it then reads: I repeat. Off limits. Or when Zurg invaded the LGM's home world and the subtitles stated it was under attack it then added "obviously". Or like the third or fourth time we're at Zurg's place and the subtitles still told us it then reads that we already knew that.
Literally one of my top 10 favorite movies. It just perfectly hits my sense of humor: gently mocking, self-aware, and bizarre. "And we'll save a fortune on monogramming."
For some reason, I remember this show and movie from my childhood so vividly. I just remember it being funny and it honestly had an interesting concept with Star Command. It could've also been my undying love for Star Trek as a kid, too, but I digress.
Wow. I did not expect him to be this positive. I thought he would've torn it down and then burned the ashes because of it's goofiness, but nope, he loved it. Wow!
Fun fact: In the version of this pilot film released on video, Tim Allen reprised his role as Buzz from the Toy Story films. When later repackaged as three episodes for airing on television as part of the Star Command show they had Patrick Warburton's (Kronk, Mr. Barkin) original dialogue to be consistent with said series where he voiced Buzz.

I remember having this flick in a VHS tape when I was a kid. I really loved it like a Saturday morning cartoon it was always a great time ^^ I'm glad you reminded me how simple and great it was , I should watch it again sometime with a bowl of cereal and a nostalgic smile on my face ^^
That was the first thing I thought when the credits started to roll. Having seen _Goldeneye_ *before* this, I unironically and unapologetically like _Buzz Lightyear of Star Command_ better to this day. This also had the side-effect of *forever ruining* my opinion of James Bond as nothing more than a needlessly and uselessly sleazed-up kids show that was worse off as a result.
I remember watching the hell out of this show when I was five. And looking back at it now I gotta say I totally agree with Doug's review. Come to think of it, I'm kind of surprised that they never made a Woody's Roundup show. They could have aired it back to back with Buzz Lightyear's Show. I'd have tuned in for that!

The Lightyear movie was supposed to be what made Andy want a Buzz Lightyear toy. This cartoon succeeded where a movie made years later failed.
Booster is supposed to be the heart, the childlike wonder, the Ray Stantz. Great show, actually. Funnily enough, Tim Allen is Buzz in this pilot film, but Patrick Warburton plays him on the show (I like Patrick's version a bit better, I think, ha).
Nathan Lee James Patrick is suited to the role on the show. He's got a classically heroic voice, yet is quite a funny guy. Tim Allen was great in the movies, though.
No way! Tim Allen plays Buzz WAY better than Patrick Warburton! I don`t like this show or any of the characters in it. The movies are much better in my opinion.
I do NOT see Tim Allen transitioning well to Patrick Warburton. Two completely different actors.

At 0:46, he says that the movie opens with a scene in Andy's bedroom. Andy's toys watch a 📼 of the movie. Pretty appropriate for the time period, if I do say so myself. When I watched this movie as a child, I was expecting another scene in Andy's room after the movie, in which the 📼 turns off, and Woody asks everybody how they enjoyed the movie. I remember being deeply disappointed when that didn't happen.

Actually Tim Allen wasn't Buzz's only voice only for the original DVD, it was re dubbed with Patrick Warbuton (?) when it was released as the first 3 episodes of the show
Originally, it was going to be the episodes with Warburton, but then the producers realized how good the episodes would be as a pilot film, so they did some touching up to the animation and redubbed Warburton with Allen for the film
This show WAS my saturday morning cartoon growing up. I loved his show so much! I must've seen every episode by the time it stopped airing. I loved the characters so much that by the end of it all I had forgotten it was a product of Toy Story all together. For kids of the time, it was fantastic!

I loved this movie as a kid, and I STILL use that line. XD And you're right, a lot of the comedy is "smart," but kids could understand it too--like that battery joke! The film was definitely at the peak of Saturday Morning Cartoon material!
I had this movie in VHS. I watched the hell out of it everytime I had an opportunity. More even so than Toy Story 2.

YES I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!! This movie was one of my favourites when I was a kid, and even now I'll re-watch it from time to time. The scene where Zurg takes over Commander Nebula and Buzz and co find him still gives me the chills. And I do appreciate how...weird the humour is. Glad you liked it!

This is my favorite movie of all time. I remember in the year 2000 where my 4 year old self would watch this on VHS over and over and over and over and over and over again and all these years later I'm still not sick of it.

When I was a kid this (referring to specifically this pilot film (I didn't get to watch the actual show much)) was one of my favorite shows. Even just by watching the few clips that you put on here I could remember being amazed by it as a kid.

One of the best comedic bits in my option is the subtitle thing that tells us the name of the place or room the characters are in and it will occasionally break the fourth wall. Like when it labels one of the shuttle rooms of star command and it tells us that it's off limits and when Myria sneaks in it then reads: I repeat. Off limits. Or when Zurg invaded the LGM's home world and the subtitles stated it was under attack it then added "obviously". Or like the third or fourth time we're at Zurg's place and the subtitles still told us it then reads that we already knew that.
Literally one of my top 10 favorite movies. It just perfectly hits my sense of humor: gently mocking, self-aware, and bizarre. "And we'll save a fortune on monogramming."
I'm still waiting for Woody's Roundup.

Fun fact: In the version of this pilot film released on video, Tim Allen reprised his role as Buzz from the Toy Story films. When later repackaged as three episodes for airing on television as part of the Star Command show they had Patrick Warburton's (Kronk, Mr. Barkin) original dialogue to be consistent with said series where he voiced Buzz.

I remember having this flick in a VHS tape when I was a kid. I really loved it like a Saturday morning cartoon it was always a great time ^^ I'm glad you reminded me how simple and great it was , I should watch it again sometime with a bowl of cereal and a nostalgic smile on my face ^^
I remember this from my childhood. It's basically a kids' version of the goldeneye plot. I love it.
That was the first thing I thought when the credits started to roll. Having seen _Goldeneye_ *before* this, I unironically and unapologetically like _Buzz Lightyear of Star Command_ better to this day. This also had the side-effect of *forever ruining* my opinion of James Bond as nothing more than a needlessly and uselessly sleazed-up kids show that was worse off as a result.
Now we are getting a Buzz Lightyear movie. A movie within a movie.
