I bought a cheap everdrive like this about 4 years ago. Menu and everything else, even the color of the cart looks the same. I added a bunch of rom hacks and whatnot to it and even after 4 years it still works as good as it did when i first got it. I've used it on an original snes, retron 2 and the analogue snt. Only issues I've encoutered were a few games like Street Fighter Alpha that wouldn't work on the Retron 2 but that seems to be a Retron 2 thing. Otherwise it's been a great device. Complete compatibility on the actual snes and snt or at least from the roms I've tried.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 uses an enhancement chip. It won't work on this item, or even on the original Super Everdrive. You need the FXPak Pro or maybe the SD2SNES clone to run the rom
These are clones of an old Krikzz EverDrive. I believe the advice is to not upgrade the firmware because it will brick the clones. I have one of these and it's OK, I don't mind the loading times too much. The shell on mine was a very tight fit in the console. I sanded quite a bit of plastic off the shell to make it fit properly. Aside from that it's been reliable. I believe by default these will only play games which do not use any enhancement chips, however they usually do have provisions for a DSP-1 chip. These are decent for the money but I would prefer an FXPak Pro instead, those will play almost all games and let you run some cool ROM hacks with CD quality audio and FMVs. There is also a Chinese clone of the SD2SNES, which will also play almost all games, however I've heard that it draws too much current because they overspecc'd a component.
@@bradejensen I saw it in the comments of a Reddit post. I'm pretty sure it was a quote of a reply someone got from an AlieXpress vendor. I can't find it so I'll take back that part of the comment.
Looks like you are using a Mac to organize the SD card. So when you wanted to run your test suite rom you actually chose the invisible file and not the rom you wanted to run. The Mac creates invisible files but on the SNES you will see those invisible files (they all start with a period). If you hold down Command Shift Period you will see those invisible files on the SD card and can remove them so it looks cleaner in your SNES.
Ah, that makes a lot of sense! Yes, I was using a Mac for this. I usually use Linux, but I was using Mac when I recorded this video. I didn't even notice I chose one of the hidden files in the video. Thanks for pointing this out!
As soon as TH-cam served up your video yesterday, I checked out the product on the link you provided. After fighting it out with Ali Express & payment, I finally snagged one for under $10! I had an old account from 8 years ago where I still had old info for me & the 2 items I bought back then. Currently anticipating a Sep 12th delivery. I hope you'll show how to add ROM files since there's some English patched Japanese games I'm interested to add.
Awesome! I'm glad you found one for such a great deal! Yeah, adding ROM files is very easy. I showed it very briefly in this video, but I wish I would have gone in more detail. But you literally just plug the SD card into your computer, copy your ROM file onto the SD card, and then plug your SD card back into your Super Everdrive. 😊
I just got a similar one for $20 on aliexpress, though it says Krikzz on it,didn't have to manually put the label on mine as it was on when i got it(mine is see through blue),i haven't tried it yet,but it seems to be well made,i was told that it would be best to switch out the stock SD card,so i am going to use my class 10 industrial grade San Disk, which it is 8GB like the stock one.The stock one is a Toshiba(good brand in my book)8GB though it's a class 4.Keeping the games/files on the stock one for backup
The cart doesn't have the extra pins like carts with the other chips tend to have so... Yea none of that is going to work. But 20 bucks for a large percentage of games is cool
Looks like it's a bang for your buck! I wonder if it works on a Super NT? I've always heard of the Mario's early years edutainment games, but never seen gameplay before. The voice clips sound very crystal clear for the SNES.
Yes, I was really surprised about the Mario Early Years voice acting! And I would assume this cart would work on a Super NT, but I haven't tried it personally. If you try it, please let me know if it works! 😊
Tried to buy one for 20$ with your link , it says available but once you add to cart and make try to make a payment it just say ;Sorry, some items are not available. Please edit your order.
Oh wow! I wonder if they've sold out... I'll update the link in the description. Here's the same new link that looks like the same product: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_msax4s0

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I have a friend who also is big into emulating old games on his PC. His setup, while pretty good, doesn't emulate things perfectly 1:1, so I still prefer original hardware on a CRT. But the added features like increased internal resolution and not having to use old hardware is interesting. Of course it sounds like you have quite the setup to replicate the original experience - congrats!
Believe it or not that cart isn't worth a dime. I have the same black version for the genesis. Look at the 5 minute mark on the video you'll see it uses a separate chip to copy a rom onto instead of loading it instantly of the sd card. Also the compatibility is horrible it will not play any of the fx or special chip games. Better of getting the chinese clone SD2SNES cart for a $100! Ok kritzz makes great stuff but he way over the hill charges for them $250 + and that's crazy! When you design and have create it then have the Chinese make the for you they are bound to clone it lol but really parts wise they'll make them for like $20/$30 so selling his stuff for 10x the inflammation is ridiculous 900% profit so no thanks I'll get my clone any day!

"how is this so cheap?" you'll be amazed how much money you can save by copying other people's work and not having to spend a ton of money in R&D, testing, software, etc.
You do realize that an everdrive cost about $15 AT MOST to make, right? That's if they include chips to make certain games work. They are overpriced and have always been. The whole code to program to make it ready roms is something a monkey can do, it's not that difficult. I hope this is the start of having more cartridges for the retro community because everdrive is overpriced. According to you, it's cheap because they stole work. Ok, well why does $100 for an everdrive seem appealing? Because you can play hundreds of games? Aren't those 100 games "stealing"? I mean, you can back them up but if you think about it, what justifies the $100 price tag for an ever drive without thinking of the 100s of playable games because that isn't their work. Seriously, what justifies the price for an everdrive?
@@PyhisPahis ah ok so it's cheap because it's trash. Probably not a good idea to use these anyway considering they probably put like 0 effort in making sure the power demand from the console isn't too taxing on it.
I do find it ironic they are pirating the pirating device.
That's usually what these companies do. Everything is a copy of a copy.
