Well Said, sir. I'm a drywall installer for 40 years and this show was spot on, What I like the best you explained it in a small area to better educate a DIY Homeowner, I like the detailed steps that make a difference to any beginner or myself who been away from it for so long and needed a reminder, I thank you for a job well done. A message to everyone looking at this video, excellent instructions and well said with this show, I'm certain your project will be well done, and proud of your DIY.
Thanks for being straightforward and complete. I weeded through numerous other videos that were short of information, long on life stories and full of bad jokes. Your videos are always concise and complete. Thank you!
He is very thorough in this video. I used it to do knockdown for my first time ind it is super simple. Takes a little bit to figure out how you want the sprayer to spray, but the knockdown is super easy. I used an 18 inch knockdown squeegee and was just fine. Most important thing to take from this video is the dry time. As he points out that when it starts to lose that glistening effect is when you start the knockdown.
Great info! Just completed a knockdown ceiling in a bedroom and bathroom, had uneven drywall thicknesses after a remodel and this texture did the trick! Looks perfect! Used a hopper/gun bought at harbor freight with a medium tip. Be sure to purchase the valve and air chuck fittings, as they are sold separate!!!
35 years in the industry and texturing is not popular in the NE but in Florida it is everywhere. We are going to start using sprayers to refinish popcorn removal so since you have the sprayer we will be doing more texturing on repairs. Good help.
Your video was very helpful. Love. the way you had "a lot less talk with a lot more action ". Thank you for making the job seem easy. and instructions fast and easy.
I never used a sprayer ,watching your demonstration and the precautions to take ,and the air pressure I need the ball valve is a good idle giving you better control ,I thank you for the demonstration ,it was well done
Great video and explanation. I've watched several other videos in my preparation today to do the texture step and this, by FAR, was the best video to give me an idea of not only what to do but also tips on waiting before the actual knockdown along with showing in real time how fast it was to do once everything was properly prepped (vids on knocking down the popcorn ceilings and remudding the ceiling did not prepare me for how long those steps take). I'm doing 2 bedrooms and I'm pretty confident that I can do the 10x10 room all in one go which is something I wasn't sure on before watching this. Thanks!
Very Good instructional video. The pace of your delivery and the complete description of the process, including tool descriptions and materials explanations, are fantastic, keep up with the helpful vids!
Shannon, Like all the videos you've made, very informative,AND to the point! HARD TO BELIEVE YOU'VE BEEN HERE TEN YEARS,AND ONLY HAVE 677 I SUBS! WTH IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?? THANKS FOR THESE VIDEOS!!
I’ve probably done close to $100,000 of improvements on my new/“old” home. It was all done from his videos. Front double door install, walls, cabinets, flooring, windows, light fixtures, wall removals, gutters, plumbing, new bathrooms, etc. By far the most thorough contractor on the internet. Always gives alternative methods and tools to get the job done. Very detail oriented and explains the process/mistakes you may make
Good video. Thanks for the pointers. Im always open minded to learn new tricks of the trade. I’ve been a finisher for about 7 years now. I’ve got 15 years experience total. Knockdown is pretty cut and dry I like a medium knockdown myself but I’ll do whichever texture the customer prefers. Thanks for sharing
Great video, I’m doing a bedroom ceiling tomorrow so I feel pretty confident now, didn’t know that I should primer and paint the ceiling first, thanks again 😊
"YOU ARE GREAT INSTRUCTOR". EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW ALONG , WITH AND ITS OBVIOUS ,. YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF,,,SO YOU REALLY SHOULD KEEP MAKING MORE OF THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS,, THANKS
I bought a cheap sprayer from Harbor Freight and used my pancake compressor to do one whole room. I thinned out Plus 3 and used that as texture for an orange peel look. An air shut off valve on the gun would have been a HUGE help and I was really surprised that the compressor was sufficient. It was a real mess, but it covered up all of my poor drywall work.
I had a pro do my great room, which I helped with, then I did my bedrooms myself. wish I'd have paid more attention to pressure and consistency. Having a beefy compressor is important. I have a smaller dual tank and it runs out pretty quickly. Anyhoo, this is a great video. I turned to it when I started running into problems and it has a lot of good info. Thanks Shannon!
Thank you so much for this very clear explanation and clear video. I'm going to have to learn how to do wall orange peel wall texture for my walls then knockdown for my ceilings. It's a bit overwhelming for me to learn, but this gives me the best example I've seen on TH-cam yet. I have hope I can do this
Doesn't sound as good though. The real reason for popcorn was acoustics. It cuts room echo better than a any other surface. We care more about looks than functionality now though...
Someone did that in my house, but they left out the master bedroom and the living room. Now I want to knock out the popcorn so I can get the entire house with the same look. The only difference is that mine is a little heavier, and I like that look better. Thanks for showing how it is done.
I'm getting ready to do a large living room, hallway and a big bedroom. Nervous because I've never done knockdown before. I've done some drywall wall replacement and some repairs and they have turned out pretty good, but I go really slow and spray very little. I got 8 day-to-day do all drywall, primer, paint and then do hardwood floors. Your video really put me at ease on application of the ceiling work. I let mud dry a day before I prime and paint. How long do you let your mud dry on the ceiling and walls??? I don't do this for a living, but do need a professionals answer. Thank, gonna be watching this a couple more times and somepractice aswell.
Hey!! Thank you very much for this very informational video!, honestly after watching it decide to do a project myself, ur kind and humble person I can tell... Hey haters everywhere!!!... They're just jelly! 😆 Keep teaching us men!. Thanks again!
Great video. I had some confusion as I was losing air when I connected my Wal-Board Texture-Pro 200 to the air inlet but mine doesn't have a ball valve to open and close. Seems that losing a little air is normal in both setups.
Thank you for the supreme demonstration and advice! If you were doing the entire room would you bother taping off the walls or would you spray both walls and ceiling at the same time? Thanks again!
another great video my Brother used to this ,so it is correct the way your doing it since i seen him do lots of ceilings ,,,do you call that California ceilings there cause up in Canada that s what we call it
Thank you for your video. Planning to do my basement. Just one question: do I have to paint the ceiling prior to knocking it down or white primer should be enough?
I have fresh drywall and I plan on doing a orange peel texture on the ceiling and knockdown on the walls. Should I do the ceiling first or the walls? I am working alone. What would be the best way to do it so as to not to mess up one texture when I do the other?
Big in Florida along with orange peel with goes on lite and fine and no knockdown. I sprayed block with type M mortar which gives a nice sand coating ready for paint.
Shannon, how long do you wait between the time you spray and the time you "knock it down?" Also, my entire house has the knock down wall, and I have little patches I need to make. How long does the bucket of material last as long as the lid is on tight? Thanks.
The timing depends on the mix and the temperature really, but its usually within minutes. Bucket will stay good for a year if you want it too. Dump enough water on the top to cover the mud, this will seal it good. When you go to use it next time dump the water off the top and mix it again.
So I am assuming you found its a good idea to store as much air as possible in your tanks? I have a little tip for you what I did and I use for air brush, paint gun for cars, and now the hopper gun get yourself a tiny little pressure control valve with gauge and put it right on the end of the gun leave valve open all the way and now you can adjust pressure to whatever application you need it for so you have full control. 🙂

Glad I could help
I have a hopper but never used it on a project I was doing. Thanks for this video. It answered a bunch of questions for me about how to do this.

Thanks so much for this video. Legit answered all my questions. This is considered a "longer" video but there is so much info in this.
NEW SUBSCRIBER!
This is one of the best DIY videos I've ever seen. Nice work.
Thanks Shannon! You usually explain very well and know what you're talking about; keep up the good work!
Fantastic! Shannon’s is one of the best DIY channels on TH-cam.
I've watched a number of knock-down videos and this is by far the best I've seen!!! Well done as always!
Thank you for sharing your insights, easily one of the best TH-cam channels.
3:45, compressors, bigger and more air the better.
Very Good instructional video. The pace of your delivery and the complete description of the process, including tool descriptions and materials explanations, are fantastic, keep up with the helpful vids!

Really a great guide for this project. I've come back to it every time I do knockdown

Great video, I’m doing a bedroom ceiling tomorrow so I feel pretty confident now, didn’t know that I should primer and paint the ceiling first, thanks again 😊
Don't do that.. primer is acceptable.. But skim your walls/prime. Texture. Paint.
How did it go?
"YOU ARE GREAT INSTRUCTOR". EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW ALONG , WITH AND ITS OBVIOUS ,. YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF,,,SO YOU REALLY SHOULD KEEP MAKING MORE OF THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS,,

Cool, thanks
Black shirt Shannon is brave and a pioneer glad to see him still posting
Shannon been watching for over 6 years now
Thanks , I appreciate that!

How did u think it out?
I’m literally doing the same thing tomorrow afternoon…for the first time. I’m excited! It’s only a 4x7 area where i removed a soffit.
Thank you so much for doing this video!!! It was SO helpful for a first-timer!!!
I say there is no wrong way to do it, as long as the outcome is the same. Thanks Shannon.
Thank you so much for this very clear explanation and clear video. I'm going to have to learn how to do wall orange peel wall texture for my walls then knockdown for my ceilings. I did a textured ceiling with one of those roller kits. It actually turned out decent.
Thank you very much. Informative video, straight to the point and respect viewer's time.
Thank you for sharing this technique. To me, this looks FAR BETTER than that old popcorn.
Doesn't sound as good though. The real reason for popcorn was acoustics. It cuts room echo better than a any other surface. We care more about looks than functionality now though...
You are the best explaining DIY projects. Thank you
You are so welcome!
best vid on this out there. doing 2 rooms on the walls tmrw .

That was an awesome video! Thank you. Getting ready to give it a go on my first attempt :)
Good job! We have done a lot of knock down. Good informative video! Again nicely done and thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! I need to try to match a knock down in Mt laundry room and messed it up. This video definitely helped. God bless and thanks for sharing.
Shannon talks, I listen.
Great video. Very educational. Keep making videos you are a good teacher .Thank you
Thank you for demonstration. It covered everything i needed to know.
You're right; lazy drywallers; but also it saves time since perfection takes time. Also, each texture is unique to the job.
Looks great! I have the cheapest pancake 3Gal 100lb PSI it works but you have wait and wait it will build your patience. 😃
Very detailed and easy to understand.. thank you
Thanks so much for explaining thoroughly. Two thumbs up man!
Shannon, you are a gem!
DEFINITELY, this is a keeper video! Thank you.
Nice job I will start doing the same thank you for teaching us and giving us advices 👍👍👍👍

You are a true down to earth dude and a pro👍
Thanks for informative video. I've done knock down before but learned something new. Thanks Bro
"I probably got white stuff all over my face" 🤣 Good video, LMAO when you said that.
Straight to the point and easy. Nice!
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with us, Shannon. Do you have any pro-tips on scraping popcorn?
here is my video:th-cam.com/video/09Q4JQ3p8yg/w-d-xo.html
You sir are a fantastic teacher
Many thanks
One question, how do you keep your work clothes so clean? I'm a plumber and I don't own a shirt or pants without glue on them. 😁
Usually shooting videos in my "show shirts" LOL.
@@HouseImprovements 😂
Of course come on. There is no way a good tradesman has new looking shirts and all his fingers... Wait maybe not the last one lol.
Hey!! Thank you very much for this very informational video!, honestly after watching it decide to do a project myself, ur kind and humble person I can tell... Hey haters everywhere!!!... They're just jelly! 😆
Keep teaching us men!. Thanks again!
Great video! Excellent information thanks!

Great video. I did the popcorn style on my ceiling about 16 years ago. Still looks good.
Wearing a black shirt while painting a white ceiling. Love it! He's covered by the end of this video lol!
You Sir, are a gem! Thanks for the info!
Thanks for sharing the info.... helps reaffirm my DIY approach.
Great video thanks for taking the time and making it
seriously best video I have seen.. love hot you get to the point..
Great timing for the spring renovations. Thank you
You bet!
Thank you for the supreme demonstration and advice! If you were doing the entire room would you bother taping off the walls or would you spray both walls and ceiling at the same time? Thanks again!
No need to cover then.
another great video my Brother used to this ,so it is correct the way your doing it since i seen him do lots of ceilings ,,,do you call that California ceilings there cause up in Canada that s what we call it
Love all of your videos! Do you ever use an acrylic knockdown knife? I'm getting ready to do my ceiling and that's what I bought.
That will work fine.
Thnks 4 being so thorough!
Thank you fit the helpful video. I'm about to do a ceiling myself. Very helpful
Thanks. Beautiful job. I wish I could do that ease. I’ll try. Very good explanation.
Do a video on how to match texture when doing a wall repair with an existing texture.
Its a bitt tricky to match existing , gotta play around to figure out what matches closest
I truly appreciate this video, I think I can try this! Thank you!
You can do it!
Shannon..great video. It’s a hard technique to learn.
Thank you for your video. Planning to do my basement. Just one question: do I have to paint the ceiling prior to knocking it down or white primer should be enough?
Excellent video, thank you!
Great video very informative. I do have a question. Do you paint it after you do the knockdown? I heard you primed it prior to spraying it.
I normally do not paint knock down but you could.
Thank you so much for the good demo.
So when you mention “prime” is that paint as the primer or a thin coat of mud?
With a room that you plan on using the same texture on the walls as the ceiling do you still tape down the walls and visa versa?
I have fresh drywall and I plan on doing a orange peel texture on the ceiling and knockdown on the walls. Should I do the ceiling first or the walls? I am working alone. What would be the best way to do it so as to not to mess up one texture when I do the other?
What is the name of that tool
Big in Florida along with orange peel with goes on lite and fine and no knockdown. I sprayed block with type M mortar which gives a nice sand coating ready for paint.
Good stuff
Thank you for all you vides is very information
Thanks. Like many of your shows on house repairs. You must be tall to reach ceiling
Thanks, it covered what i need it to know.
Best Video Out There.
Very informative!
I'm going to strip off the popcorn ceiling and do this. 👍
He has shitty spray..
Shannon, how long do you wait between the time you spray and the time you "knock it down?" Also, my entire house has the knock down wall, and I have little patches I need to make. How long does the bucket of material last as long as the lid is on tight? Thanks.

Great video! Thank you! Did you buy a separate piece of PVC pipe to angle your hopper better for ceiling? Or was that included?
Mine was included.
Thank you! This was awesome!
Awesome video. I tried it. It looks like shit. But I'll try again. Thanks!
excellent video. nice work.
I need to do ceiling AND walls. Should I mask off walls and do ceiling or vice versa? Seems either way I'll get overspray? Thank you!
Thank you so much, it doesnt seem so hard to do now!! :)
Nice job thanks Mr. Shannon.
