Good advise / application advise for us who do not spray texture all the time . I’m going to rent a machine and spray my texture tomorrow. My old welding class had a sign on the Wall; “ Repitition is the mother of skill”🤙🏽
I've been spraying lite mud for 22 years. Adhesion has never been an issue. Gotta be nice to your body every chance you can in this business. I'll add some a/p on ceilings that had popcorn.
Ata boy mat. Do as your told and gain that knowledge. Congratulations on your recovery my man. Your boss is my online boss. I challenge all you viewers to donate, if what you've learned made you money as it has me. Since watching these videos my confidence in quoting jobs has increased tremendously. Once I'm done with my projects I will send u some money brother. shout out from 10TH MOUNTAIN NY.
This is a great learning video. You explain it well bro. I actually haven't ever sprayed texture around my area as its not to common here. When i do i will watch this video! I wore my hat today. I've been wearing it heaps..
So far your the most informative channel I've came across. I have a few questions. I'm attempting to do knockdown on the ceiling. Do I have to prime it? Do I have to pull the masking/tape off before it dries? And do you paint over it to seal it? Thanks!
You just spary it heavy let it set a little bit then wipe it down before it fully dries make shure to keep the flexible blade clean pull the blade in the same direction to keep to pattern consistent.
Its great that you"re helping out your high school buddy! Too often we lose touch with our school friends because life gets in the way.I no longer know any of my school friends and thats not good.
Ya Iam blessed man there five of us that still hang out when ever we can. Life and kids doesn't allows us to hang out like before but we still stay in touch.
Do you find it easier to mask the floors with plastic over scraping with a floor scraper? Everyone does it different. I either use floor paper or scrape it, depending on if it’s finished floor or not.
Nice vid! In The Netherlands we texture with different machines called spackspraymachines. We spray with 10bar compressors to have a fine structure. I saw in the video you have to mixure it with water, why? Is the machine not strong enough for heavy materials,it’s look very thin the me. If we do plasterboard texture spraying first we spray it with primerpaint (white) then after that we spray the texture (brander crystal) but i think that’s to thick for that machine. I prefere our structure because it’s looks not wetty. Funny to known that the knock-down texture doesn’t work for most of Europe.
Great information! Really appreciate it. Helped enormously on my garage conversion. I was going to use a hopper gun for ceiling and walls. I'm going to home Depot and rent one.
@@franciscocarlos-xy9qv the mark 5 can spray texture as well with the right gun. But yeah the pump on it is a beast and the 5 is a major investment. I would have to be doing a lot of level 5 to justify it. Right now a stucco roller and a tomahawk wiping blade works for me.
Do you do a knock down after each room is sprayed as it dries in 10/15 minutes. Does the gun start to clog up when you stop to do the knock down. Hints on timing of knock down. thanks
Yup have to go ro by ro if your working alone and don't worry the gun doesn't clog. Some times I leave it out of water and take lunch come back and keep spraying. Just got yo make shure you let it set a bit so it doesn't drag but enough to just give it a quick pass and go.
im at the point were Im gonna replace my graco sprayers there the 1000 model (the rtx 1000) older model but makes me leary the new rtx line, all the comments across youtube people are saying they lasted a year then quit... what machine do you like the best and what model would u buy again bro? I been following u a while and your opinion is what im making my purchase based on!
Awesome Danny I personal use the Graco rtx 1400 for 95% of our orange peel jobs it's lightweight and gets it down pretty quick. I don't like the higher models because of the new smart start tech. In my opinion it makes them way to sensitive to any change in power. If the unit is pushed a bit to hard the on-board sensors fry... If your mainly doing orangepeel and some heavy texture the rtx 1400 should be good enough to get the job done in a reasonable speed. I recommend maybe renting one at home depot to sample and see how you like it. 🤙🏽
@@csdrywallhawaii that duotex how did u like that one? I love that it has a lid, that would make life so much easier.. i like the wheel in the front and the many other features it has... it is up there in price closer to the rtx5000 now though... My worry about that one is when I had the sharpshooter hoppers each lasted about 2 hours before breaking... How did you like it, do u still use and which one would you use if you could only choose one!?????
All texture spray rigs can spray knock down texture. It's called knock down because you "knock down the texture with a knife to achieve desired look. In this video I am spraying a light orange peel texture. This style doesn't require you to wipe anything. Just one of may texture styles like popcorn, skip trowel etc...
Thanks for watching, I like to air blow the walls with a cordless blower before spraying removes dust a bit faster but creats a temporary dust cloud so I give the guys a 5min break while it clears out then we go back in to finish up.

This is one of the best videos for spraying texture I have seen. Very clear with directions, no music overlay to distract the viewer. Bravo!
Thanks brother🤙🏽

That's what we call a holiday, the texture went on vacation. FUNNY!
Okay, but it doesn’t deserve me having to watch two feature length commercials back to back.

Thanks for the info! How many boxes did it take you for that whole house square foot wise?
Do you find it easier to mask the floors with plastic over scraping with a floor scraper? Everyone does it different. I either use floor paper or scrape it, depending on if it’s finished floor or not.
We usually scape everything but this one had existing wood molding throughout. The flooring guys grumble a bit but it's faster for us.

Cheehoo, thanks braddas 🤙🏼 video was easy to follow.
Solid my braddah
Great instructional video!
Do you press the trigger all the way in when shooting for knockdown?
For heavy knockdown yes
Great video! How much area will one box of mud mixed up cover while doing orange peel?
Usually use about a bucket and a half per room. So about 2 and a half boxes.
Whats the powder you put in the water? You said hotpercise?
so spray texture first and then do we roll or spray primer..? and last is paint ya?
Is it feasible to be able to do a skim coat with the graco rtx. Even if i have to spray compound on then wipe smooth with a blade?
Mahalo for that awesome info. Could you also use this machine and that mud mix for knockdown style texturing?
No worries brother, yup just got to leave the mud a bit thicker so it will spray a little slower but works great.
Nice video, thanks for tips and tricks.
No problem thanks for watching
Can i use Graco RTX tips/nozzles with Marshalltown DuoTex gun? Are they same shape?
Yes as long as it's heavy duty one graco makes. The hose is the same as well but might have to get and reducer depending on what graco model.
I don't think they rent those that are home Depot, how much a day there? Always screen mud for spray texturing!!
No need to screen your mud might want to check local sherman williams some times they rent.

Awesome brother glad I could help Goodluck on the build.
Could this machine be adapted to spray for level 5/skim coat?
No for level 5 I would recommend a mark 4 or 5.
th-cam.com/video/6nrmW8rXoHE/w-d-xo.html
I had the exact same question, can you spray thick mud with a mark v
@@franciscocarlos-xy9qv yes, apparently it can spray unmixed mud right out of the box...not that you would ever need too.
@@BushmanCanuck it would be nice if there was an adapter for spraying level 5 or putty coating old walls with thicker mud.

Do you ever have an issue with this tripping breakers ?
Yes especially in older homes because of the power draw it needs its own dedicated line.
