The reason Burr has the ear-mic set-up but no one else seems to, is that everyone else has their mics hidden in their hair. You can see them a little bit if you look closely at Angelica and Peggy's foreheads. Burr, lacking hair, can't accomplish that, so ear-mounted.
The reason the womens' dresses are so brightly colored is so the audience can 1. see them well in the dark theatre and 2, and most importantly so that audience members can easily identify and differentiate them from eachother.
I’m not sure if it’s because the theatre was dark, but it was definitely because they also needed to be able to be clearly visible to those that were far away from the stage. Theatres are pretty big, probably even bigger for Broadway lol.
@@YoBGS something that also helps with remembering who the important characters are, are their leitmotifs (if you don’t know it’s basically like their theme song lol) so then when a character appears after a while or want your audience to remember this character for important reason, their leitmotif plays. Hamilton likes its leitmotifs and evolves them (so their theme songs change with what the character has experienced). It’s pretty cool! Long story short: Hamilton makes characters more differentiated by their theme songs :p
Burr has some surprisingly tough numbers. In fact, a lot of people's favorite number of his, if not their favorite in the whole show, titled "The Room Where It Happens", is apparently the least favorite of the man playing Burr because of how physically demanding it was of him.
Quick correction- Angelica is looking for a ‘mind at work’, not a ‘man named Burr’. Going back to the 1st verse where Burr says they ‘gawk at the students’. Basically, she’s ignoring the ‘attractive’ guys in favor of finding the ‘enlightened nerd’.
@@YoBGS ok, but I’ll warn you. As you can see, we are a serious bunch regarding the show’s intricacies. All we’re going to do is get on you for missing something on stage because you were reading the caption. 😄
for your question about burr's mic, everyone with hair has a small mic on their forehead, partially hidden in the hair for ease of viewing, but since burr is bald, he has one on the ear! :]
@@YoBGS also there isn’t an ear piece certain characters who are on stage a lot have 2 mics in case one fails the second mic for Burr is over his ear which looks a little bit like an ear piece
I thought he had a different mic because he is not only a character (Burr) but also the narrator who addresses the audience directly. So he uses a mic like a singer or someone who is doing a Ted talk. jmho.
Burr is a character that is acting as the musical's Narrator Character, you can see this in many musicals, Clopin from Hunchback of Notre Dame, Officer Lockstock in Urinetown, The Criminalogist in Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Greek Chorus in Little Shop of Horrors, etc etc So while he is in the story, he also acts to set the scene. I find it funny that Ron Chernow, author of the book that Lin read while on vacation (I think it was actually his honeymoon) that inspired Hamilton, Ron Chernow took issue with the implication that Alexander Hamilton was quick to violence from the "burser punching" part, but not that Lin forgot about and essentially erased from the show MULTIPLE SCHUYLER BROTHERS. Also, Lin researched the use of the term "diarrhetic" for "Cabinet Battle #1" to make sure it was used in the same way at the time, while "flying by the seat of his pants", said by Angelica in "Satisfied" was coined in I believe the 1930's.
The actors aren't listening to directions but the music and mics of other singers as it can be very loud/quiet and chaotic on stage. And remember Hamilton is a fairly small cast (for a musical) so often the actors double up and appear as chorus and multiple characters. Would love to see your reactions to Lin Manuel Miranda's first musical 'In The Heights', songs, both stage and film version.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I loved Dream SMP and Minecraft stuff but creatively I was just looking for more. And Hamilton is kinda helping me find my voice for some of the original stuff I wanna do in the future :)
The mic choice is up to the actor. Some like Hamilton, Angelica, Madison/Hercules have the mic sewn into their hair while others like Burr and Washington wear the earpiece. Also those 2 actors have low haircuts which could be the reason as well.
Most people have mics sewn into their hair. Leslie Odom Jr. has no hair so they have to give him an earpiece mic. You'll also see that with the guy playing Washington, as he's also bald.
I must reiterate what a few have said before me. You should react to Winter's Ball, Helpless and Satisfied all in one set. They are designed to go together and is more .... impactful if done together than seperately. This will make your run time long, however, it will be worth every second. As Mel saydam states - Will blow your mind!
I am really enjoying your reactions to Hamilton. Keep it up. Just a suggestion, which I'm sure you will get a lot, when you get to it you should do A Winter's Ball, Helpless and Satisfied all together to get the full effect
Angelica Schuyler ends up becoming good friends with Jefferson while they're both in France, and they wrote to each other for the rest of their lives. And she did actually debate with him on many topics, including rights of women. (And she was not the only Revolutionary woman to debate the topic of women's rights with a Founding Father. Abigail Adams famously said, "“If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation.”)
I love love love your reactions to Hamilton! I'm so happy when appears the notification. And please, do the videos the longer that you want, I'm loving it!
considering that they says "people shouting in the square", and you can see john laurens as one of the background dancers, i honestly think it's happening the same night as the story of tonight, right as the hamilsquad went to shout about the revolution in the streets.
Lin-Manuel Miranda uses some classic tropes in his musicals for example, the Schuyler Sisters the trope is Uptown Girls and Downtown Boys, the rich sheltered girls are both fasinated and replused by the crude viril boys. Another example is his musical, In The Heights, which if change the ethnic group and the time period could be the plot of a 1930's Warner Brothers melodrama.
Fun fact: Peggy's name is actually Margarita Schuyler. Not many people know that and just call her by Peggy. And I'm going through the series and know your already up to act 2, the reason Peggy isn't mentioned is because, well spoiler, she died and it was just easier to not mention it as it didn't go with the flow. Re-watching these is funny cause you miss so many little this us Hamilton nerd have picked up, and we're all just yelling through our screens.
I love Playhouse Square in cleveland! its so pretty!!! the big chandelier is AMAZING! Ive seen alot of musicals there ive seen Lion King, Wicked, Finding Neverland, and Matilda the Musical!!!
"Why is Lafayette back in the picture?" That's Anthony Ramos, the actor that played Laurens and Phillip Hamilton. I know, it's your first time watching this but when you said that, I had to look closer because I knew I didn't see Daveed Diggs. Also, the comparison of Jon Rua to Markiplier.🤣
Just a quick correction, timeline wise the declaration of independence has been written and the revolution was in it's early stages, not in full force yet but has started. Glad you're enjoying the show though
When were you in Cleveland? I know downtown used to be a bad area but things have changed a lot. There's a huge apartment across the street from the playhouse that houses a bunch of Cleveland athletes. Cool to hear you used to be in Cleveland though.
I'm in a wheelchair and not a fan of exercise, but give me that rotating stage or those horizontal escalators in airports, I essentially become a human hamster in the hamster wheel.
Where did Lafayette come from? It was not Lafayette it was John Lauren’s but if you look around you can see that characters irrelevant to the situation are always on stage.
The revolution definitely did NOT start with the poor lol it started with the merchant and land owner classes. Later they will sing that the "have-nots are gonna win this" meanwhile Hamilton (who, fine he is a have-not) is with Lawrence (son of the wealthiest man in South Carolina iirc) and Lafayette (a literal French aristocrat) lol
It's funny how Angelica talks about how she is going to talk to Jefferson. It doesn't make it into this show but apparently Jefferson had a real thing for her later in life after his wife died. You should read his letters where they are both in Europe and he tries to convince her to take a boat trip back to the US with him and go visit Niagara Falls. Oh and please just go in order. Don't skip songs. And I think it's been pointed out that the cast all have forehead mics but Burr is bald so he needs an ear one.
I'd say a Burr sequel would be better than Jefferson, given that Burr was Maria Reynolds' divorce attorney, along with a lot of other interesting events after that day in Weehawken in July of 1804.
The revolution was led by the people - the British responded. There were very few aristocrat elite loyalists when compared to the overall colonists considering the thought of a new land ruled by the people instead of an anarchy.
I thought "The Schuyler Sisters" was taking place just before "Aaron Burr, Sir", "My Shot", and "Story Of Tonight". Aaron met the sisters before running into Alex, and the reason you see Lafayette is because he's on his on his way to the bar.
Angelica was talking about the declaration of independence. This was after it was written. She said "when I meet Thomas Jefferson, I'm gonna compel him to include women in the sequel" meaning that she thinks that all men [and women] are created equal.
***Spoiler-ish*** It's also dramatic irony, because, for those who know history, she actually does meet Jefferson in France (while he's ambassador and she's there with her husband). And they become friends, and they do debate equality for women, among other subjects. And write to each other for the rest of their lives. It's also why she's able to offer Hamilton advice about Jefferson later in the show while they're writing to each other. (Fun Fact: IRL, it was actually Angelica that wrote "My Dearest" with the comma after dearest. And Hamilton wrote back teasing her about it.)
@@jcompton8507 See this is why I argue with my husband when he says Hamilton has no historical relevance, because with a few minor dramatic exceptions, the play rings true, and has inspired the kind of conversations that are more informative than what's taught in schools these days.
Looking for a mind at work doesn't mean they are downtown looking for anything more than a man. Except angelic is saying she's looking for a man who's got his s*** together. A guy who's a thinker. Someone with a future, not just the 87 pack.
The reason Burr has the ear-mic set-up but no one else seems to, is that everyone else has their mics hidden in their hair. You can see them a little bit if you look closely at Angelica and Peggy's foreheads. Burr, lacking hair, can't accomplish that, so ear-mounted.

I just hope you carry on as I cant wait for you to get into some of my favourites.
I found with hamilton there is no weak song even the short ones are just as good as the 7 minute songs, so stoked
❤❤
Thank you so much for the kind words! I loved Dream SMP and Minecraft stuff but creatively I was just looking for more. And Hamilton is kinda helping me find my voice for some of the original stuff I wanna do in the future :)
The mic choice is up to the actor. Some like Hamilton, Angelica, Madison/Hercules have the mic sewn into their hair while others like Burr and Washington wear the earpiece. Also those 2 actors have low haircuts which could be the reason as well.
Oh when you watch Satisfied!!! The stage! The choreography! The performance !! Will blow your mind🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️
Most people have mics sewn into their hair. Leslie Odom Jr. has no hair so they have to give him an earpiece mic. You'll also see that with the guy playing Washington, as he's also bald.
And I don't think that's Lafayette. That looks more like Laurens. (Though, if I remember right, Lafayette is up on the left at the top of the stairs.)
Omg I this is one of my favorites from this soundtrack, but guns and ships is my favorite I can’t wait til you get to it
3:20 She said, "People shouting in the square" You really should watch these with the subtitle lyrics.
8:43 That's John Laurens, not Lafayette.
Yeahhhh I realized it was Laurens when I was watching the video back, and I'll def watch with subtitles from now on
So exided for ur reaction for this one! Keep it up :)
man, the next song has a special place in my heart, I love it so so much
I must reiterate what a few have said before me.
The one thing that you 100% need to do is watch “Helpless” and “Satisfied” in a row.
Keep this series going! 👍
@YoBGS : I know i'm late, but the one who you were referring to at the 9:09 minute, it's not Lafayette, but John Laurens :) .
So glad I found this channel, can’t wait till you see Guns and Ships!!
3:11 Eliza says “People shouting in the square”… not shopping. 🗣🚫🛍
Loving your Hamilton reactions, keep 'em coming!
Burr has the mic like that because everyone else's is hidden in their hair (I think)
Keep up the good work coach
Look at lee bowing on the right 6:18
This is my favourite song!!!
When it comes to a winter's ball you should do it with helpless and satisfied
Check out the above image of the lit-up rotating stage! It's the symbol of the Federalist Party! Been loving watching this with you.
I love Playhouse Square in cleveland! its so pretty!!! the big chandelier is AMAZING! Ive seen alot of musicals there ive seen Lion King, Wicked, Finding Neverland, and Matilda the Musical!!!
"Why is Lafayette back in the picture?"
That's Anthony Ramos, the actor that played Laurens and Phillip Hamilton. I know, it's your first time watching this but when you said that, I had to look closer because I knew I didn't see Daveed Diggs.
Also, the comparison of Jon Rua to Markiplier.🤣
Everyone else has a mic in their hair, which Leslie Odem Jr doesn't have much of
Just a quick correction, timeline wise the declaration of independence has been written and the revolution was in it's early stages, not in full force yet but has started. Glad you're enjoying the show though
8:56 that’s John Laurens
can you please react to 96,000 from in the heights, i think you'd absolutely love it, its also by lin-manuel miranda
It's people shouting in the square lol not shopping
Love it!
*Points at laurens*
Where did Lafayette come from?
*facepalm* you’re right… why do they have to have similar names?!
SHOUTING not shopping
Which theater are you referring to in Cleveland? The Playhouse Theater is not in a terrible area...
8:45 Thats Laurens lmao 😭
4:50
Damn, starting to sound like my dad
It's funny how Angelica talks about how she is going to talk to Jefferson. It doesn't make it into this show but apparently Jefferson had a real thing for her later in life after his wife died. You should read his letters where they are both in Europe and he tries to convince her to take a boat trip back to the US with him and go visit Niagara Falls. Oh and please just go in order. Don't skip songs. And I think it's been pointed out that the cast all have forehead mics but Burr is bald so he needs an ear one.
has bro not taken a history class😭
This song is great! Angelica is amazing, as u will see later...
yesssssssssss
I'd say a Burr sequel would be better than Jefferson, given that Burr was Maria Reynolds' divorce attorney, along with a lot of other interesting events after that day in Weehawken in July of 1804.
3:59 “She is probably looking for a man like Burr…Burr” 🤣😂🤣 funny but wrong 5:09 and 6:00
Guys, stop telling him stuff about songs he hasn't gotten to yet!
That's not Lafayette. That's John Laurens.
This was not burr’s first verse
Maybe he meant as a character in the story, rather than in his role as narrator?
@@StoryMing he still had a verse before
After you're done with Hamilton, do Hadestown. :D
seconded
Shouting, not shopping.
***Spoiler-ish***
It's also dramatic irony, because, for those who know history, she actually does meet Jefferson in France (while he's ambassador and she's there with her husband).
You should have the lyrics on hand while you watch. Some of the lyrics can be easily mistaken the first run through
burr has no hair. everyone elses mic is hidden in their hair, but burr has none so he gets it on the ear (i think)
Looking for a mind at work doesn't mean they are downtown looking for anything more than a man. Except angelic is saying she's looking for a man who's got his s*** together. A guy who's a thinker. Someone with a future, not just the 87 pack.
BC he doesn't have hair!
