      whoever made this video has no idea about happiness. Human nature works like this; When you have nothing you think that having it all will make one happy and then one day you have it all and then realize that what you achieved only make you comfortable. Human nature dictates that you can only find happiness within yourself. The highest suicide rates are in 'Happy' countries.

    In Norway we have a concept called "freedom under responsibility". It only works when people are actually responsible. But it gives people more freedom than in countries such as the United States. For example, you can do your job the way you want without the boss caring about what you do. As long as the job is done.

      True. But it just happens to be the happy people live in western countries above 49° parallel north, or the pacific. Those countries all have free education, shared (or free) healthcare insurrance and a state payment for people who don’t (or are not able to) have a job. All those countries have some kind of solidarity. Something USA never got, and Poland forgot about.
      And (for me the most convincing): all these countries don’t have a powerful leader. Wether they have a king or a chosen president, still the parliament is in power. Everything has to be discussed, no one is going to be the winner, so everyone is more or less happy.

    As an Australian who lives in Canada, there’s no way Canada’s that high on the list. Not between the climate, cost of living, and taxation, all of which are among the worst in the first world. Not to mention the current leadership, which no one is happy with right now.

    • @McSlobo
      @McSlobo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Find some friends and chill. Your beer will stay cold. Chilling with buddies is the thing people in North do. No need to speak, you can just look at emptiness together. Moan about the politicians together.
      Watch TV or play with Playstation. Learn to code. Cold climate gives possibilities which you're not used to. You can e.g. ski, play ice hockey etc. Finland is equally cold or colder than the areas where practically all Canadians live. People are still quite active and outdoorsy.
      Common sense, trust, cooperation - cornerstones of the societies in North. These are forged in the coldness as you can't survive alone on these latitudes. You just can't leave your buddies behind, you might need them the next day.
      People used to taxation are happy with it if it seems to pay back. Of course, some will always complain, but hey - no such thing as a perfect system, only good ones. Good government uses tax money well. I bet Canadians agree on most government costs if they think about them for a bit, but many are incapable of that.

    • @malcontent7
      @malcontent7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      McSlobo First, I don’t drink, so your admittedly poetic diatribe about “popping a cold one with the boys” is wasted on me.
      Second if our taxes were just going to the universal healthcare, I wouldn’t complain, but our prime minister, in the midst of a recession, is using his citizens tax money to house and support refugees. Under normal circumstances, I would be fine with this, as I think would most Canadians. Yay for charity. But as I said, we’re in the midst of a recession, and while most of the country is either unemployed or underpaid, our leaders are using our tax money to bring in more dependents, making the situation worse. Hence why the government isn’t too popular right now.

    Can understand how New Zealand is on the list. We were the first country to let woman vote, our white people are the least racist people in the world, some even adopting the natives culture instead of the other way around. Alcohol is very cheap. A lot of people smoke weed. No extremists. You can go barefoot in a super market and not be judged. Lots of greenery. The North island is warm and the south is cold so pick your climate. Not many political people weither it be socialism, communism or capitalism. Just people of freedom. Foods expensive and people are uneducated on the big world though

    I don't know actually what kind of happiness they are considering there. I don't know if they are relating directly happiness to quality of life, probably so. But let me just let a point of view out: these considered rankings will never correspond to the existent happiness inside a person and how she/he shows it out there, I mean, if you go for example to places likes Mexico, Brazil, Columbia, Cameron, South Africa and so on... you completely see how kindness, affection and passion those people visibly show and express it very hardly with their hearts and on their faces. I think that could be the real matter and definition of what happiness is. I was in Switzerland on the contrary and could not see, for instance, that passion and joy of people on their way of life, even though they have great quality of life. You know... just a complete true story.

      True, but I also think its because people in those countries lean on each other more bc they dont have the same support from society/gouverment

      Tom Huth if u say that as a traveler, hmm i don’t think that’s the right way to assess any countries, cause happiness is abt the people living there overall, not people visiting another country/people greeting outsiders. And any countries that u mentioned, have problems w safety + inequality. Lots of people don’t even have enough basics to be happy.

    As a swiss I have to say our country is not happy at all lol. Just because we have high living standards doesn't mean we are happy.

    • @JudoMMA1
      @JudoMMA1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wombat Games It is also typical of the swiss to complain about things, even tho we have arguably the most comfortable life on the planet . Like you just did.

      I did not complain at all but you are correct

      Xbox One Lmao. It certainly is one of the factors for happiness. On average, people who don‘t have to worry about war, disease and poverty are certainly happier than the ones living in war-zones, full of death, poverty and disease. Stop with that „wise-man“ attitude

    It seems the more socialistic and less religious a country is, the happier the people are. The U.S. has a long way to go.

    Such a huge different human experience when people are born in different countries. Some people are borned without water, some people are borned with such great resources which is great, it's a blessing! I love all people, and it pains me to see people suffer. Some are because of their own cause and effect. But many are just borned in those conditions that needs a little help. In my life ,I will fight for a day when all people are peaceful and happy. I hope you do too

    If you're still wondering why Finland is no 1.
    - kids start school at age 7 (preschool at age 6)
    - school days are very short for kids age of 7-12 usually being 2 to 6 hours and every hour they have 15 min. break and go play outside, so each lesson lasts just 45 min.
    - school lunch is free in all schools except universities, where the meals are still cheap (2-3 €) and universities are free for finns and europeans.
    - kids do get homework but very little, only short tasks from 1 or 2 subjects and not every day.
    - teachers are motivated to do their job and kids call them by their first name and don't use school uniforms
    - employers must provide free healtcare for employees and this sometimes means also dental care
    - unemployed people can use public health care which is nearly free
    - there is no minimum wage but trade unions negotiage frequently a fair wage for workers. 80 percent of workes belong to a trade union.
    - police are very relaxed and you can greet them on the street and they often joke with you even when they fine you
    - foreigners generally say that finns are honest and trustworthy, they do what they say they're gonna do.
