I have the 11 and just got the 12 because I wanted a second GoPro for another view angle while riding my motorcycle. I like the 12's HDR on bright days but don't find it being beneficial on cloudy days and actually think it looks worse than the 11 in less than perfect lighting conditions. I see this in your side-by-side comparison as well. If I didn't get the 12 for $299 (because I'm a GoPro subscriber) I wouldn't have bought it for $399. Nice comparison. New Sub here!
Thanks for the sub. To be honest I reckon HDR is probably the best reason to upgrade as it does take away the headache of exposure with blown out highlights.

Hello Vic I just got the GoPro Hero 12 and love it a lot. I have adobe elements premiere 2021. Clips at 2.7k or lower even set to 1080p cause the program to crash. Even changed bitrate to 8 from 10 in the hero 12 to see if that would make any difference. Any ideas what's going on? I know you are very busy but any help is much appreciated.
Hey Michael, no idea to be honest. But I would suspect it’s elements. Download a trial of premiere pro and see does that work.

Watching this video today, I like the video from the 11 better. Can the 12's HDR be switched off? BTW, GoPro's Customer Service absolutely sucks, so how about a recommendation for another brand that is similar in functions?
Did they fix the touchscreen with firmware?
the HDR is better on the skin in the sun it seems? Theres areas of your face blown out white without it.. btw i think you were pointing at the wrong sides when saying 11 and 12?

The HDR is good. The gp log with gp luts has to much noise to me and hdr looks better. The max lens 2.0 is really good. I’m using it for moto vlogs and have it attached behind my bike. The view is really good 4k 60.
Haven’t got a huge need for the max lens personally. But yeah, the HDR is decent to be fair.

Well, Sir, I can't say that I prefer the 12's images over that of the 11. IF in the future, I decide to upgrade my 7 Black to a new camera, I will go with the 11. How about a side by side comparison between the 7 and 11? Love your videos. Please keep up the excellent videos, Vic. CHEERS😮
Vic a great video as always but you didn't mention Go Pro's alleged improvement in battery life. I believe that they say the battery life will last twice as long. Also the Max Lens 2.0 is supposes to be a lot better than the Version1.0. I know that this is an addition to the base unit. Anyway as always a BIG thumbs up and keep em' coming. Your vids are informative and enjoyable. Cheers.
Hey Kym, yeah. I didn’t. I feel it needs a bit more of a dedicated test. But for what’s in it the battery ticked down the same on both cameras. More or less percent for percent.

@@VicBarry I prefer the image on GoPro compared to Osmo and I’m really looking forward to horizon lock and auto boost. Plus front facing screen! I mean, it’s a huge jump from hero 8

I think it is a bit of a pi-s take to call it a 12 when all the hardware is the same as the 11 . All the software/ firmware updates could have been passed on to those that parted with money for the 11. Basically, it's a finished 11. The only good thing is companies like DJI will be the death of gopro
Yeah fair point. But this is the business model and a bi product of the yearly release cycle thing that it’s all evolved into. The Action 4 as good as it is, is no generational leap either.
Majority of camera makers for example, Sony have the same sensor that’s used countless times. Software and a few extra bits of hardware make the difference in the release cycle but it’s only now and then there’s a generational leap.
Ultimately these are tools that help people tell stories. An argument can be made a GoPro 7 will tell as good a story as a GoPro 12. In fact there’s no argument.
Fantastic job, as always! I have to admit, hero 11 and 12 are almost identical. However, maybe upgrading from a hero 10 or older. I think they have solved the issue (made it better) with camera freezes, overheating, and better battery performance.
Hey Roger. Well said. The biggest difference is most definitely the HDR. I haven’t seen the battery life being a huge improvement to be honest. But anything older than the 11, definitely a good step up
I NEED SOME HELP. I am going to buy 11 or 12. and honestly when i watched this video, I found the 11 being better on the "colours", but we can see some difference when it gets bright.
i am going to use the gopro when hiking, fishing and maby freediving. The problem i have is that i dont really know how much i am going to use log and HDR. And when it comes to the wide camera stuff, i mean that not alot of people have 4k or 5k monitors, so am i going to have use for the upgrade from 11 to 12 camera quality? I dont really care about the prize difference, just think that i can get a tripod with the 11 and still be under the prize of the 12. If someone can give me some answer, then i would be very happy😄
The 4k monitor thing is irrelevant to be honest. Shooting in 4k or 5k is more for what it allows you to do in post production. You can crop in on a 4k/5k video and reframe it quite a bit without losing any quality.
Personally I’d go for the 12 if price doesn’t matter as I feel it’s the best iteration of GoPro yet.

There is a big improvement Jon hero 12 the image doesn’t have that much distortion on the adages its a bit cropped in and better stabilised.
I've been waiting for something big for four years, I think I'll wait another one with my hero 8 😅
