Great to see more Porsche content appearing! Also I must say 13k views for a first video and in a month is mad! Well done! I’ve not got a single one to that level yet!

Hi Daniel thanks for getting in touch - great to know my clip is being watched so far away - my niece worked in New Zealand for a while snd loved it out there - I will continue to give honest non biased updates on my ownership experience - but so far I am very impressed and loving it.

Nice car Phil, I love my 01, in Florida it's always summer, I drive it several times a week. Thanks for sharing your experience. I've been fortunate enough to have owned some great cars in my life, but I have never enjoyed a car more than this one. I had a wonderful Trans Am that as fate may have it was purchased by a gentleman in England and was shipped from Florida.

Thank you for the vid. A friend of mine has a 1998 2.5 that he is thinking of selling. Took it for a test drive and was blown away. It’s a high mileage car but has tons of history and is well looked after. Like you, I am doing my research and have the fear about the car having issues. Keep the vids coming as I believe a lot of people will find them interesting. Best.

Great video Phil, I have owned a dozen 986 and 987 models and believe it or not had A few MG TF’s prior to owning Boxsters and of course there’s no comparison once you’ve had one of these, totally agree with IMS issues being over hyped on the internet and I had no problems across any of my cars, I have just sold my 01 2.7 after a year of pretty much trouble free motoring and even using it for work covering nearly 10,000 miles, but having watched this I’m ready to search for another! Look forward to your updates and running costs and wouldn’t mind a trip to Matlock some time to join up with the club to talk Porsches and eat bacon sandwiches- perfect day out !!! PS by the looks of things your car is very well specced for a 2.5 and someone must have ticked most of the options list, I live in Cumbria and there is an Arena red boxster in the next village but you don’t see many !

    Nice car and video
    I’ve owned my ‘04 3.2 S four years now
    Absolutely love it
My advice , use the best oil and change it before storing , ask the mechanic / yourself to cut open the oil filter and look for sparkles which most likely you won’t find
Also Michelin tyres transform the handling along with a proper alignment check
Best sound , best handling car I’ve owned and over time just gets better
    🙏

Hi Phil. Great video. It was a lovely day and we had 330 cars there - it gets better every year 😊 Your lovely Boxster is actually Arena Red Metallic I think. Carmine Red is a relatively recently introduced colour. You have a great find there - the 2.5 Boxster, the first of the model, is something of a classic and is becoming very sought after and with such a low mileage - well! Great to see you.

I bought a 2003 986 three years ago. 96000 kms but really tidy.
To safety it required a turn signal stalk.
I use it during Canadian spring/summer/fall. Since owning it I have replaced the clutch master cylinder, alternator and serpentine, water pump, ignition switch, front motor mount, brakes all around including parking brakes. I defeated the brake pad wear indicators, what’s the point?
Oil, filters, tires? Of course. I now have 114300 kms on it.
I have done all of the work except for the clutch slave and safety work.
I am technically inclined but not a tech. Parts costs are very reasonable when you learn how to shop for them. My mountain bike has cost me more to maintain!
Is this a fun car? It sure is!
    Great video!

Nice vid Phil. I'm a newbie Porsche owner: 2001 986 S / 39,000 miles. I've noticed it needs to warm up about 10 minutes before you can shift with ease. Other than that minor thing, it's been a dream to drive.

Hi Phil after looking at your video I think that the colour is Orient red like someone else stated Carmine red is a later colour. I own a 1999 2.7 which I have owned since 2009 and has just done 50k the IM’s was replaced at 44k by Cavendish Porsche due to rear main seal leaking with the upgraded double lipped one as fitted to the 987 interestingly my IM’s had dual row bearings only changed because they were there doing the RMS also clutch replaced at the same time,
I have done numerous jobs my self on the car most recently the coolant expansion tank which was quite a challenge but was a success after many swear words and scraped knuckles, Anyway good look with your ownership and hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine.
    Cheers Alan

Thanks for posting this Phil - great to see real reviews like this? A lot of people, like me, are a little apprehensive about owning a Porsche, and scared of the real world costs, particularly in buying 20 year old car. This helps to put things into perspective a bit?

  • @ArnoldWinters

Phil I enjoyed your video very much. I just ordered a 2022 new Porsche Boxster GTS 4.0 Liter with PDK in Carmine Red with chalk white leather seats. I own a Tesla model 3 performance which I love, and will use the Boxster as my fun car. I once owned a 928 S4, which was a 1987 with a V8 engine. I look forward to taking delivery in early November. Can you please ask your engineer friend if I should order the fire extinguisher which was an option that I left off the configuration. I will not be racing the car but I will open up the throttle occasionally on the motorway, but just briefly. I doubt a new Porsche will combust in fire with tame usage but I see that Porsche has the option. We have no requirement for one in Atlanta, GA but the mid engine is so up close and personal that I thought I would ask a Porsche aficionado. Thanks.

Nice car, Phil. I love the red. I went with a Green 2000 Boxter with tan leather, and it had 32K miles on it when I purchased it 1.5 years ago. I’m a little concerned about the IMS issue and if I should get it preemptively replaced. Lots of $.

I had to look up IMS bearing (intermediate Shaft Bearing, I discovered!). Looks like a nice car you've got there, Phil. It is of course pretty old even though it looks good but I will follow your channel with interest.
I'm surprised you went from those crappy poor build quality MGs straight to a Boxter, though. Did you not consider an MX5 if you want a fun sports car? I'm on my 3rd - all bought new as they are not expensive, and very cheap to run (they don't go wrong and tyres, brake discs etc are cheap as chips).
I bought my first in 2004 (so a Mk2) and traded it for the then new Mk3 with the electric folding hard top in 2007. Just last month I moved up to a new Mk4 in lovely Soul Red. Mad really as the Mk3 had never ever had a fault and was almost the same as the day I bought it. I just fancied a change after 14 years with the same car, the 1st generation Mk3 was getting to look a bit dated, and I love the looks of the Mk4 especially in Soul Red (its a soft top as the Mk4 MX5 foldy roof is a targa top, and I like fully open cars).
I did consider moving away from the MX5 'just for a change' this time, but what too? Unlike you I'm not brave enough to go for something more exotic but old. I did consider the S2000 but they are all a bit long in the tooth now and anyway I'm not keen on their looks and the engine you have to rev the nuts off to reach its performance band. And I'm just so in love with the lightweight handling of the MX5.
Thanks for the video. I live in east Cheshire so not too far away - perhaps I'll see you on the Cat & Fiddle one day! Cheers. Vince

I've had my 2.7 tiptronic for 2yrs. It's a 2001 with 69,000 miles and failed an mot once before I bought it, and that fail was an insufficient handbrake. Its actually never even had an advisory yet. Wash it, polish it, and change the oil & filter annually and it will run like a cheetah 🙂

I've always loved Porsches but I'm the least mechanically inclined person on earth. I have enough money to buy a nice used one, but am by no means wealthy. I've always heard it said that unless you're wealthy, or have the ability to work on them yourself, you'd better stay away from Porsche, because it will cost you an arm and a leg to have it serviced at the Porsche dealer every time something goes wrong. Your thoughts on this?

'ello, when did this meet happen? I've got a 986 S and I'm in Derby. I'll look out for you next time I go for drive on a sunny day (I nearly always wave). Are you on boxa yet? I see you've found Cavendish Porsche. They take good care of my car and I thoroughly recommend them. Take care and enjoy your car!

I have a 3 year plan. I WILL own one by then. The wife has given me the green light. I have enjoyed Porsches ever since I was a teen in the 80s. Really like that color! Congrats sir!
