Dag Wirén (1905-1986) was a Swedish composer. His music covers various styles, composing both in academic and vernacular veins, notoriously a 1965 song for the Eurovision contest. He wrote music for ballets, concertos and symphonies, yet his most famous work is a Serenade for Strings. His music ranges from the delicate to the powerful, yet always containing a driving impulse. Such characteristics are present among his orchestral works such as his Fourth Symphony, a small yet concise piece in the genre.

The 2nd movement (scherzo?) reminds me of Vaughan Williams, Ravel, and Holst.

Why not the painting? That's the question.

@@maxgregorycompositions6216 🤔That's easy-a spookier painting would better match the music.

@@darrylschultz6479 It’s totally and utterly subjective though, isn’t it.

@@maxgregorycompositions6216 Yes it's subjective-and O.P. Christopher Rose's curiousity about why it was chosen appears to indicate he's one of those subjects that found the painting to not quite match the music as well as other paintings would've done.
