  • Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! TH-cam's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we'll take an up close and personal, in depth look at the very unique 2006 BMW 330ci ZHP. A car that blends some of the best from the BMW M3 and a few other goodies to create, what's claimed to be the most well rounded 3 series ever made, with the perfect balance of performance and handling. During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
    FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW: In this channel you will find in depth reviews/tour of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. Basically, this gives the viewer the chance to view the most detailed 1st person look you can get without going to an actual dealer yourself! Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect in my presentations. I treat every vehicle with the same respect whether a 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS or the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. I film all types of vehicles from past, present, and future while broadening the knowledge of the automotive enthusiast. You will see everything from vintage, brand new, exotic, mainstream, old, etc. I am very proud of this channel and have built it up from amateur videos years ago to what you see today. I wanted to share my love for the automotive world with the rest of the world. Be sure to explore the massive video variety, have fun and enjoy The Driver's Seat of TH-cam!

    I have a 2006 ZHP picked it up for 15k, I've had to spend about 5k more on maintenance, new sound system and a couple aftermarket mods but it's been work every penny. I've spent plenty of time on the track with it as well as many road trips. If anyone is looking for a cheap rwd sports coupe this is the way to go.

      LOL, kinda true about all bmw's, they seem to get that from a lot of people. Not really true if that's the nature of the cars, or what they say about the drivers. I personally like the styling of this one and the newer coupes, except for the 1 series. Not quite Audi-esque as far as styling goes but better than SOME Mercs IMO...even though the Benz's are getting much better except for the SLS. in my mind it's still baboon-butt ugly.

    Having fixed E10 - E46 cars for a living for a many years, these are NOT as well built as their elders, BUT, having recently, (1.5 years ago,) moved from an E30 325ic to an E46 330cic daily driver, this car, even with a "slushbox", puts most other cars in the same price range, and well beyond, to shame. Nearly 220k miles on mine so-far, will see many more. Keep an eye on the DISA valve, VANOS seals, fuel filter, etc., you'll have a mile-wide grin for not much green. Due to their increased need for maintenance compared to their predecessors, E46 BMW's have low resale value = a great used car value if you wrench yourself. Even if you pay someone else to fix it, keeping an E46 tip-top shouldn't cost more than $800/year once initial problems are addressed.

      They are surprisingly easy to work on and there are so many resources for DIY available. Just did the ofhg and valve cover gasket on my 06 330ci zhp 6sp. It had 62k when I bought it and I just turned over 80k after 1.5 years. Had thermostat go bad so did a cooling system refresh minus rad, started using Liqui Moly oil, did fuel filter, diff fluid, replaced some interior pieces, etc. I paid 16500 for it and it has been worth every penny so far. It is a lot of car for under 20k and I can't think of anything else I would want in the price range.

      If you're gona buy the coupe, buy end of the line if poss, mid 2006, and as low miles as poss, obliviously. Only BMW coupe worth owning in my book. And re maintenance, the later cars are pretty much dealer only, esp the high end models.

    Don't get me wrong... If you're relying upon your local mechanic to keep one of these on the road, provide you with the same level of enjoyment as the original owner, unless he/she's a BMW expert, you're in for disappointment. That said, do your homework, find an expert, or learn to wrench yourself, and this generation of BMW has more to offer for your used car buck than anything else i can think of.

    These E46s were quite reliable in general but they did have a few quirks with the suspension, electronics and the I6 motors were known for VANOS and valve cover gasket problems. If you're looking for one make sure it has service history. Also the gauge cluster pixels would die out so you would need to change the gauge cluster at some point.

    I bought a 4 door model a couple months ago with 54,xxx mi and its been very fun to drive. I did have the valve cover gasket leak a little but its a simple DIY and $40 for the replacement. The exhaust is quiet for an "upgrade" but, swapped it out for the TSE3 cat back, Supersprint headers, and a custom tune ( 40 WHP gain). All in all, good investment.

The e36 rear windows could open, but did so manually. When the e92 came out BMW stopped doing this. They say to save weight and reduce drag, but the real reason wad to reduce cost. So you had to pay more and got less - nice!!
    When I see a later 3, a 4 or a 6 behind me, I always flick the switch so they can watch them openning ... all by themselves!!! ;)

    Picking up a used BMW is always tempting, but the potential repair costs are a huge drawback. For instance, my dad has a 850i which he has pampered for over twenty years (it only has around 60k miles), but in spite of that when a repair is needed, it's never ever cheap. It always feels like a punch to the stomach.

    • @7urbieta
      @7urbieta 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      3 series are cheaper to repair, but still expensive. I have a 330ci, got it with 90,000 miles, now has 119,000 and I've put in around 3,000$however, it was all worth it personally , but to each its own. But I do drive it the way it suppose to be driven. Engine is still strong.

      +7urbieta I definitely agree; repairs for the 3 series (my E46 especially) are honestly very affordable. If you can work on them yourself the parts cost about as much as any other typical car, and they're pretty easy to work on. Add to that a strong online community with endless FAQs and guides to repair any common failures and you've got a great platform to work with. Of course as with any BMW, dealers and shops are going to charge ridiculous sums for simple work, so DIY owners by far get the best benefits. You can pick up a nice E46 on the cheap thanks to outrageous shop costs for simple repairs.
      I paid $2k for my '03 325Xi that was garage-kept, manual, loaded, rust free, and super clean inside and out (they still had the original window sticker!) because the dealer quoted the previous owner over $4000 in repairs when it developed a hard cold start issue. (VANOS, DISA, fuel pump/filter, PCV/Oil separator; basically normal maintenance on an E46 with 120k...) As a DIY person, I fixed everything myself for less than $800 in a couple weekends. That even includes having to buy the Torx sockets and wrenches to do it! Years later she's now at 150k and still running like a champ with nothing more than basic maintenance. She's really been a great little daily driver; fun to drive as a manual, and great in the snow with AWD.
      With less than $3k invested into the whole car that blue-booked for over $6k when I bought it (and was 40k when it was new), I'd say I'm pretty happy with it. If you're not fixing these cars yourself though you better have a fat wallet, or you might as well bend over and pray for some lube! XD

      You can't really make those kind of comments with an 8-Series as your example...

    • @v2mmxst10
      @v2mmxst10 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've got that right! The E46 is an excellent example of an affordable BMW, but there are far more examples of unreasonable models such as the E31 (850i). Can you really complain about maintenance costs on a car with a 75k+ base price? My good friend for example has a '95 750iL (E38) with the V12, and though it's a sweet ride (it's basically a limousine IMO!) the parts and maintenance costs can be absolutely staggering! He of course knew that going into it, and makes enough money to not care about such things; certainly not my lot in life! It also definitely wouldn't be my first choice when it comes to something affordable for the vast majority of us.
      On the plus side though, the average person doesn't know the difference between any of the BMW models, and they all seem to think my grocery-getter is some expensive, extravagant European import. Never ceases to amaze me that my clean 400awhp Stealth gets only mild comments, but everyone's eyes light up and they have plenty to say when I pick them up in my winter beater BMW! A set of switch-back angel eyes, some clear turns all around, with the factory M-tech sedan spoiler, and suddenly I apparently have some crazy BMW sports-car that out-classes my badge-engineered Japanese Supercar! XD
      It may be ridiculous, but I can't say I'm really that unhappy about it. I wanted a cheap and affordable AWD winter beater, and it sure fit the bill with that BMW emblem on the front as a nice bonus. And hey, with bolt-on turbo kits now out and the MS43 ECU being fully flashable, maybe my beater will finally give my Stealth a run for it's money? Nah...

      Yes, I would have to agree that there seem to be a 'ton' of BMW models out there. That alone can be a bit of a turn off (at least to me) because there's so much leg work involved trying to find which models are reliable.

    The formation of water inside the exhaust pipe is the result of condensation that takes place over night or in a vehicle parked for a longer period under cool shade in day time.
    So whenever you start your car first time in the morning and keeps moving , the water that has accumulated in the exhaust pipe starts dripping out with the help of pressurised exhaust gas . .
    And as the temperature of the exhaust increases the water will start coming out in a vapourised state which is not visible.

    I ended up pulling the trigger on a 2006 zhp coupe with 78k miles your indepth view and driving reactions helped me make the decision I really wanted the m3 but it was 5k more and I worried about the expense of repairs a indie bmw shop actually recommended this over the m3 for cost of maintenance over the long haul although they said the m3 would require less maintenance but when it did need it it would cost more.
    I think this is overall a decent compromise for an entry level enthusiast.

    I'd kill to have a ZHP manual or even better an M3 manual E46 but I'll probably have to get a 330 series most likely the sedan as well but I won't toss out the coupe and whatever one I get it will have to be a sports package one only problem I have is many of the cars I'll be looking at will have around 150k miles so I'll have to see very soon hopefully within the next 1-2 months I will have one!

    Yes, it actually can be tuned to perform better than a ZHP. Active Autowerke can tune it for an extra 15hp, and along with an aFe intake, and exhaust system you get a total of about 30-40hp difference.

    When gasoline burns the hydrogen molecules that are in the gasoline combine with the oxygen molecules from the intake air. When this reaction/explosion takes place in the engine the oxygen and hydrogen combine to form water, and as the hot exhaust cools down threw the cold tail pipe in the morning it condenses also the Catalytic converter adds some moisture as well.
