    Thanks so much for these videos. I have the 12/42 MTD with a broken spindle and the bracket holding the blade snapped as well. I’m going to review your videos again as I drop my deck and undertake these repairs.

    Hope your neck and back didn't suffer too much more wrestling with that deck. I could see the pain on your face. I sure do enjoy watching the MTD coming along. Thanks for taking the time to record all your hard work for us! -Kevin

      Well thanks. I actually enjoy the results of the work. Sometimes the work hurts. But most 60 year olds would say the same.

    I got given the same one as yours, it certainly wasn’t in anywhere near as good condition as yours, had to work it all out by myself, just can’t find any information for the twin cylinder one, with that type of belt set up the deck is a pain in the neck, with all the lying down, getting up etc, I also stripped down the differential, cleaned the filter, I’m having to use a drill on the 32mm engine nut, to start the motor because I the starter just doesn’t seem to have the power 🤷🏻‍♂️.
    Subscribed 👍.

    • @BrucesShop
      @BrucesShop  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right. These engines do have a compression release (to make the engine start easier) that gets worn which can make them hard to start. As I am not there to help I can't be sure if it is that or a weak starter as you can turn it with a drill. Can you afford to try a new starter before you open up the engine? I parted this one out a few years ago now.

    Hey Bruce! I really have enjoyed watching you "Save" this MTD. I was always told that if you take care of your tools, they will last longer, and take care of you!! Plus why spend money on "newer" or so called "better" technology, when tried and true is so reliable, and easier to work on! Anyway, a question that has been popping up is: How many days did it take to get the MTD back up an running? Also, when you order your parts, do you get them at a store, or order by mail?

    • @BrucesShop
      @BrucesShop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took about 2 full weeks to do it. (over a longer period) I order some locally and some from Amazon. I always try local first though.

    I couldn't help but notice you skipped the spring attachment. On my Ranch King i could not pull that spring. So i wrapped a steel cable dog leash around my right foot, Attached the dog collar clip to the spring, And pulled it with one foot, While i guided it into place with my hands, Wearing thick gloves of course. It worked, But i couldn't help but wonder if there is an easier way.

    • @BrucesShop
      @BrucesShop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made up a big hook with a thick wire. I put the wire on the spring and pull the hook to stretch the spring.

    • @TheEyerobot
      @TheEyerobot 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrucesShop I would try that today, But i'm really sore from pulling on it yesterday with pliers. Actually no, I think ill wait until i have to take it off again. Good idea though.

      @@BrucesShop Ah i see, So i wasn't completely crazy doing it that way? Hehe. But yeah, I won't use the dog clip next time, Just the wire, And a solid handle. That clip really made me nervous, their so cheap.

      Get some really stiff wire and make a loop (4 inches or so) and get an old broom handle and drill a hole near the end of the stick. Loop the wire through that and hook the spring with that and pull back the spring.
