    Thanks man! Don't let those guys complaining get under your skin. You were great! The cover guides alignment is what I was looking for. The trick engaging the belt tightener is what helped me finish. I'm one of those goobers who trashed a belt by not paying attention and letting one guide inside the belt.. Didn't last 10 minutes! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK..!

      @TheOzthewiz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TEN MINUTES! When I did this, MY belt (original) went up in a CLOUD OF SMOKE in 15 seconds! lol

    WOW. At first I couldn't get the belt on then I saw the movement of one of the pulleys that was frozen on my deck. Thank you for a VERY helpful video.

      Same here! What did you do to fix it? I loosened mine up a bit and sprayed a bunch of WD-40 while taking a hammer to it.

    I needed to know where the brake spring goes and you showed me. I have another spring down there, the same size, I couldn't figure out where that one goes so just took it off. Thanks again!

    I loved the video, My tractor was a 1999 or 2000 model so yep 16 or more years old and it still runs. I took the deck off and hooked up a snowblower. Just recently the deck of my other tractor that I bought to replace this one rotted out so I decided to hook back up the deck on the old tractor. Well I forgot that there was a double pulley system, (Mine only had one) for the mule or PTO belt. I hunted for ever to find a diagram of how to route the belt and was at wits end until I saw this and now it seems so simple. I wondered where that extra pulley came from. LOL
    Anyway thanks for making videos like these. Most consider these throw away tractors but for me there is something very satisfying about bringing back to life an old machine.

  • @TheOzthewiz

    As for getting the pulley cover belt guides on the INSIDE of the belt, BEEN THERE, DONE IT! Lots of smoke and burnt HOT rubber all over! Learned the HARD way to engage the PTO, before putting the cover on! With regard to the "brake" I permanently disabled it, I couldn't stand the squealing noise when disengaging the PTO ( no kids or pets to worry about). The blades stop quickly when you hit a patch of fresh grass.

    • @jakenardi8406
      @jakenardi8406 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I did. Was missing the cable and my belt snapped from having the brake on the entire time. Glad to know it's not a huge concern.

    Would be nice to have a video showing how to replace the BOTTOM (mule) belt, specifically the tension spring! THANKS!

  • @jasongroat9809
    @jasongroat9809 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow, just pull the tension spring off the post, reroute the new belt (MTD has a .pdf for every make and model) and put the spring back on. Reattach your covers and brake springs and your done. We don't need all the drama ! These are a stamped deck, cheap (You get what you pay for) lawn tractor. Mine has lasted 8 years, mowing once a week 2+ acres. Alas, I have spent $200 minimal each year just keeping it going. My next will be a zero turn welded deck. Thanks for the video. I appreciate it.

    • @TheOzthewiz
      @TheOzthewiz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had mine (same as in video) for 15 seasons, only I have done is replace the PTO belt a few times and the MOWER drive belts once. I religiously change oil (full synthetic) once in the Spring and again in the Fall before I store the mower. I clean the deck twice a season and use a rust dissolver in the fall. I keep it garaged after use and NO water for deck cleaning. Except for some minor surface rust under deck, it looks and RUNS near-new! Bought it in '04 (NEW) for $1099.00+tx+$40.00 for delivery from Home Depot! Not bad for a 46inch, 21HP B&S twin cyl with automatic (CVT) and cruise control!

      @@TheOzthewiz I have the same mower and same setup. I however cannot get my new pto belt tight enough when I engage the blades. Grass is not too tall and dry and new belt does not have much tension when engaged. I don't see anywhere a guy can tighten it....

    What a great video. Thank you so much! Just got my first rider and the belt snapped off immediately. Could not figure out how to do it as I've never worked on them before. This saved me.
    I'm missing the cable for the belt on the right side for the brake however. Also missing the belt guide on the front of the left cover. Hope that doesn't matter too much but we'll find out I guess.

    Thank you for the demonstration of this we were having trouble finding a diagram for this I now see that the belt guides bolt up to the guard and we had thr correct diagram this mower was just missing so many spring and parts I wasn't sure thanks mm1.

    When replacing the belts on these mowers, make sure to replace them with GENUINE MTD OEM belts! Not the "replaces OEM" cheap belts, not worth the few bucks saved. Also, before installing the belts, check the pulley working surfaces for ANY rust spots or roughness ad if any are found, sand them down! Doing this will REALLY increase the life of those belts! CHEERS!

  • @gooeytarballs
    @gooeytarballs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have watched a dozen of these videos. They all fail to document the mower under repair. That is, they don't bother to show the mower details that would enable one to determine if it was similar to or identical to the mower the viewer was trying to repair. A shot or two of the mower front, left, right and rear would help as well as shots of the controls and indicators as well as the labels that ID the mower, engine, and (in many cases) replacement part numbers.
    Repairmen are familiar with the differences and know which machine they are working on - so do not assume 'we' are able to ID a specific mower from a video title alone.
    The MTD mowers seem to be branded by Troy and Craftsman and others - but with differences that are important to note.
    "Establishment' shots of the deck, in place and removed as well as shots of the machine underbelly with the deck removed would be helpful.
    If these shots were presented FIRST, one could determine if the machine in the video was a match for the one the viewer wanted to work on. Without them, one needs to watch several minutes to 'discover' the video is of a 'different' machine and not applicable to the machine the viewer owns.

    The model that my friend needs the belt replaced not only has belt guides, but metal lips that go over the pulley to supposedly keep the belt from coming off pulley, but it didn't stop the belt from coming off. I can't put the belt back on, because it is too tight a fit to get the belt under the lip and onto the pulley. It looks like I would have to loose the pulley nut underneath the pulley; as it appears the same bolt that holds the pulley down also holds the metal flat rod with the lip that goes over the pulley. Is that correct?

    Excelent Video So am I right in saying the BOTTOM Belt is the DECK DRIVE BELT and the TOP Belt that goes to the engine is the PTO BELT? Thank You

    • @denhunter1
      @denhunter1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. That is NOT what is doing. My PTO is a push-pull button that you pull out to engage. This machine has some level that engages the drive. My deck has ONE belt, and it is a 46 inch TWO blade. His machine has THREE blades,a and TWO belts. Confusing as hell video. Can't figure why he does drop the deck of we can see what the hell he is talking about.

    • @TheOzthewiz
      @TheOzthewiz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The BOTTOM belt on the deck connects ALL three blades together, the TOP belt IS the PTO belt that goes on the crankshaft pulley of the engine.

    Hi there,
    I am working on a Yard Machine (MTD) mod 13DF675G062 riding mower and this has been a pain. I have worked out most of the issues, what has me stumped is the location of the release for the transmission so you can push the machine. I downloaded the owners manual, checked the exploded parts diagram and even called MTD and no where is there any info on how to make the thing free wheel so you can push it. The customer said he was having problems with it.
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks
