Early on I would buy a nicer bottle and take them a sample and just get to know their history and other members of their family that work with them. I have gotten to know a couple of managers in a local big box store and they let me know when special bottles come in and let me buy multiples. Are these bourbons really that much better than the run of the shelf Elijah, Makers, Jack, and Turkey 101? I live eight miles from Bardstown and have never sampled any of the more upscale bottles.
For this bottle I can say yes I definitely like it better than all of those, but it all depends on what you like my favorite bottle to drink is woodford double oak for like everyday kinda thing
I like Bardstown their BIB wheater is fantastic. It is somewhat hard to find in my area but two stores get it now and then. I’ve seen the rye and plan on getting it next visit. Unfortunately some of their bottles are over what I’m willing to pay for a bottle so I won’t be buying them. My cap is 150 for a single bottle and some of the fusion series are 160 and up. But the origin series is very good and I will always have it on my counter.
Shores liquor off of wells road in Jacksonville is hands down one of the best liquor stores, If you want to just try pours of expensive or allocated bottles. They have a bar attached to the store that has basically everything ( decent prices )

Wild whiskey of mandarin I heard is pretty good as well, I haven’t made it over there yet but from what I heard & their Facebook page it seems to be pretty good
