So wonderful to see the tippy-top of Vancouver Island!! I visited in 2022 with my husband, taking 3 weeks to campervan all over. Cape Scott Provincial Park and the area around Port Hardy was our favorite area! So remote. So many bald eagles!!! And bears! We’re from the mid-Atlantic US so we felt like we had been transported somewhere truly magical! You make the hiking look easy, but I know for a fact that IT IS NOT. The mud scramble is for real!
17:10 “I wish you could smell the air…” That’s the theme of my life on North Vancouver Island! I can’t count how many times I have said that in my videos 😜 Film & photography are poor approximations of reality, but some masters can get quite close in capturing the moment, the light, the atmosphere. What I think no one will ever be able to capture are smells. When building an off grid life in the rain forest, you are constantly bombarded with smells of earth, rocks, flowers, wood… I wouldn’t change it for anything. I am really looking forward to your journey through this magical land! 👏👏👏
Beautiful introduction and nicely filmed. I also appreciate your respectful treatment of First Nations...Looking forward to following your adventure...stay safe and enjoy every moment!
This is so cool! I didn't know there was a Vancouver Island Trail! I have been to Port Hardy, to meet a friend's sailboat for a coastal sailing trip, but never hiked into the interior. Love the Western Toads--banana slugs not so much --ha ha. Great that you got to see sea otters. Yes--the tidal issue and having to time it right or wait or go over a headland was always and issue on the Olympic Coastal Trail too. That, and mile after mile of negotiating seaweed -covered rocks. Very excited to watch this! That Port Hardy meal made so hungry!
really enjoyed to come along! thanks for sharing the ups and downs, it can be tough to do things with grace when we are alone, w partner or group, hungry tired unsure what's next! another great accomplishment for you both❤
I've hiked all over BC and the Alberta Rockies. Nothing compares to the difficulty of hiking on Vancouver Island. Cape Scott, the Westcoast Trail (WCT), Nootka Island etc. The weather can be awful not to mention the lack of trail maintenance, roots, mud, more mud, ladders and downed trees to navigate with heavy packs. The fact that you had decent weather on the North Coast weather is highly unusual. Thanks for taking us on your journey! Looking forward to your next segment.
That's an absolutely stunning trail!! Thank you so much for talking about your mental health journey. I'm so grateful that you're talking about it and how it impacts your walk. I truly, truly appreciate it. ❤
I'm so excited to see how this goes...I've wanted to see a thru hike here too ( also an island girl from west saanich, now Parksville) Love your videos and your peeps!
Love that Brian is joining you! I’m looking forward to see all of Vancouver Island! Love the first episode! Can’t wait for the rest!! So informative!! Love you both !❤
This was a great video! Vancouver Island is so beautiful! I’d love to do this trail one day. Thank you so much for showing so much of it and being so honest.
Hi Krysta you are so awesome and cool 🕶️ really enjoyed your video's ever much happy trails to you and your Husband stay safe and take care love and peace ✌️ to all 👍🤗😊
I got to hike Cape Scott with Brian a few years ago. I'm sure he told you about the whole ham we cooked and the ranger hut we got to stay in. Great times.
Hi Krysta. The trail looks gorgeous and you seem to have perfect weather. I enjoy your talks and honesty about mental health aspects and challenges as you make these journeys. I'm wondering what make/model the pink sweater you're wearing is. It looks cozy.
Nice to see you on the north coast trail. It wasn’t part of your video but the lake you hiked around on boardwalk, probably on day 3, used to host nesting red-throated loons. I’m interested to know if you saw them there?
How are you keeping your electronics charged up? It seems like there isn’t a lot of infrastructure for you to utilize for that. How much battery power are you carrying?
Great question! We both carry a battery pack to keep all of our camera gear and electronics charged. Krysta has a 15,000mAh battery pack and I carried a 20,000mAh pack. This allows us to easily handle a 6 day section. Krys has completed a 10 day section last year, stretching out her battery capacity to its limits. Cheers!
Surprised know one has commented on your footwear choice. I'm 8 min in on the video here and can't believe what your wearing on your feet. Wet feet,no ankle support etc. Crazy choice. 1st time seeing your channel so hope it goes alright for you two.
Oh, a new hike and a new series. Thank you for posting.

This route should begin at shushartie bay. Neat Idea. My spouse wants to do another VI trail.

Very interesting! I don't know if I did because I didn't know to look for them!
Love your videos. Have you thought of doing the Camino de Santiago?
How are you keeping your electronics charged up? It seems like there isn’t a lot of infrastructure for you to utilize for that. How much battery power are you carrying?
I was wondering the same thing!
Probably solar chargers.

@@briannorwick Thank you for taking the time to answer!
How do you not get blisters with wet shoes?

Stop eating starch foods. Maintain ketosis.
