This scene still gets to me today as it did in '67. Later, when "Sir" tears up his walking papers, that was the final blow to my composure. THAT was a movie scene to remember.

Rhodesian war also going on... Politicians playing God with young peoples' lives... Took GUTS to stand up to them... The music backing us helped... John Lennon's "Revolution".. Simon & Garfunkel's "Homeward Bound"... Crosby Stills Nash & Young - "Daylight Again"... Beatles - "Let It Be" (UCT's unofficial Anthem in 1968)...
Three movies that I can watch over and over again are "Lilies of the Field","To Sir with love"and "Guess who's coming to dinner"! He was a joy to watch in every movie he was in! God above, may his soul rest in peace!

It's in 1983 when I was in Wellington High School in New Zealand. My teacher ( Mrs. Waterspoon) chose this story for our English lesson for that year. All my class mates were from non-english speaking background and we all enjoyed it so much. I still remember these songs. Thanks for sharing this clip.
Absolutely gut wrenching , brilliance, this WAS what everyone truly wishes for in life, a genuine lust, loving, non racial world without a hatred. After all, the world belongs to everyone. I'm now 70, it doesn't stop me shedding a very proud teardrop. I just wish I met the cast to say thank you. ❤️
I went to the drive in theatre with my parents to see this movie. Sidney Poitier has his work cut out for him with rebellious youth but in the end their respect and achieved a goal for themselves. Like the song says " crayons to perfumes". You will truly be missed "Sir"! Thank you for teaching me and my piers from wrong to right. U will truly be missed. You are a legend
..i so love this film, and now, as an old, retired 66 plus teacher, I know that you can develop a very loving friendship with you class. I have, on more than one occasion.
I hear you, I am almost 72 and still keep in contact with some of my students. I still tear up just driving by my school where I taught English for 28 yrs. I have tried to make my stagieres understand that the students will remember 20% of what we try to teach but they will never ever forget how we made them feel.
I loved this movie since I first seen it when I was young. Because of this, I began teaching in 1984 and finally quit when my college shut their doors in 2013. Thank You for the video!
I can 👀 see in the way that Sidney treated the students right, they did learn a lot in return but when it came to the end,the young lady 👩 gave him the gifts 🎁 he was where it looked like he was so quiet, it makes you wonder what he was thinking . It just goes to show how you can do what's best when you're a teacher. Sidney, all the other people in the movie 🎥 were ,are simply fantastic ! I love the music, movie, I would watch it over again. I give it a thumbs up 👍 👌 🙌 👏 😀 ☺. Thank you to whoever showed this on screen .
I moved from MPLS to Dallas when was 12. We were poor but not ignorant, strong parents, never saw racism before that and it shocked and sickened me. When this film came out I was 14 and it changed my life or rather it reinforced what my parents taught but did not see much of in the streets..Class. self respect and own it. I love to this day Sir. I cry everytime I hear LuLu sing to him and the film was one of the first I bought on VCR. This never gets old. It is a lesson teachers are not allowed to teach now days without parents getting in the way defending low level behaviour. Thank you Sir.
I saw bullying and abusive teachers who hit and insulted kids and they were just allowed to get away with it most of the time. The film just depicted the level of bad behaviour from children.
THIS WAS ANOTHER TIME IN LONDON SCHOOLS IN 1967 LULU SINGS FROM THE BOTTOM OF HER HEART AND WAS MARRIED TO A BEE GEE MAURICE AND I AM MARRIED TO BARRY RIGHT NOW MERRY CHRISTMAS
I remember seeing this in the theater and this has to be one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie. Every now and again, I catch it on TV somewhere and it's one of those movies that if it's on, I have to watch it. Love, love, love, Sidney Poitier. Rest in peace
Yeah, exactly. And I don't even know why that is. Maybe we just believed something back then that we've lost. Maybe we remember only the love and the hope and the optimism, and not the social upheaval, or the war, or the fear. What do you think?
@@lindyprimo9025 Yeah, pretty much. Some of us cared; we protested against the war, or Nixon, or authority in general. But life really was so much simpler then. You could enjoy yourself (and others. ;)) without a cellphone in your back pocket, a social media addiction, or 24x7 news in your face. It did feel carefree.✌🏼❤️🎶
@@lindyprimo9025 I’m sorry to hear you’ve got so many regrets. When I look back, I know I did a lot of things I wouldn’t do today, but I did what I thought was right at the time. Maturity brings perspective. If I were to have any regrets about the ‘60s, it would be that I didn’t do *enough* crazy shit. That I missed Woodstock. That I didn’t trip on acid. That I lived too much between the lines. But I’m good with all of that now, and I’m really ecstatic to have all this great music still in my life. I hope you find your peace.
@Mike Zielinski Your response to me seems a bit out of proportion, misses my point, and makes assumptions which I find invalid. But, like myself, you are entitled to your opinion.

Love SSP! No one better ever. Sir Sidney Poitier you are so missed! Grew up watching ever single movie. So many tears.
Sidney Poitier was such a handsome man and loads of talent a fabulous actor also rip x
If it wasn't for Viet Nam I'd go back to the late 60's in a split second. What a time it was.
I guess you are not a black person or homosexual. But if you were you wouldn’t say that.
"Hell NO we won't go!!!" Remember those times so well... Draft dodgers both American & Aussies in Cape Town at that time... Our SA young men also had Angolan war involvement going on...
Same way I feel about the 90's
Race riots in major cities. Assassination of JFK, MLK, RFK. Manson family murders. Freedom Summer murders. Should I go on?
He was such a gentleman, he will be greatly miss. Rest in peace Sir....
Three movies that I can watch over and over again are "Lilies of the Field","To Sir with love"and "Guess who's coming to dinner"! He was a joy to watch in every movie he was in! God above, may his soul rest in peace!
Hello Wanda . Hope you’re having a great day?
Don't forget Buck and the Preacher, and The Defiant Ones with Tony Curtis. Two of my personal favorites 💕! RIP Mr. Portiair💓
Don't forget "In the Heat of the Night".
‘A patch of blue’ is a gem as well.

My mum and I adored this movie, Sidney Poitier was a talented and handsome man he was. The song and the way Lulu sings always makes me cry.
Every time I watch this scene, I am cutting onions.
Watching this now with tears in my eyes. Classic scene.
Real no onion argi bargi
Segregation is disintergration
So hard to say goodbye to Sidney Poitier. Rest in Peace, Sir! You were a role model to so many, and will definitely be missed in this world.
Gets me choked up every time since 1967...
To J Boomer! Me too!
Now you've made me cry again. RIP Sir
Back, in the days when lyrics and melodies actually had meaning, and somebody really wrote them down, and on paper, too!
And could sing them live !!!!!!
@@debbiesmith4186 Yeah! Deep sigh!
No music like that being released nowadays

Clearly, there is nothing that you can teach me, about the English language.
(01) No full stop after "Some'body".
(02) No full stop after "...lacking".
(03) No full stop after "...number".
(04) No full stop after "...alive".
(05) No full stop after "...unique."
(06) No full stop after "...born".
(07) There is no such punctuation as "- -".
(08) What is meant by "The has never..."?
(09) No full stop after "...cemetery".
(10) Not "I would hope...", but "I should hope...".
(11) The use of "...until this point in time" is redundant. Try ", until now.".
(12) No full stop after "...detail".
I'm an English tutor.
You picked on the wrong person.
Come to the UK and learn real English, and you could start psychotherapy concerning your preoccupation with death and corpses!
As a child, sometimes I'd be ill and have to take time away from school for a week, sometimes two. When I went back, I'd help the English teachers catch up!

Teachers like that come once in a generation.
Real as sun and rain
Sydney Poitier was pure class.
My childhood crush .❤️One of my favorite Sidney Poitier movies !
R.I.P BEAUTIFUL SOUL🙏 We were blessed sharing your talent with us❤❤
What a wonderful man he was. Intelligent, talented and so handsome. His movies were some of the best ever!
A great clip from one of the greatest movies of all time.❤❤
One of my favorite movies and song!!!! TO SIR WITH LOVE!!!
This man totally Unique, one of a kind generational human being. RIP S.Poitier.
You seem like a sincere y caring soul, y I appreciated your comment. Thank you y God bless you

I in turn pray and wish that I can meet you❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾
I was inmy second year high when this was shown. Our teachers required us to see this movie.. and it is worth watching
thanx sidney * such an amazing man, role model & actor * peace brother 🙏
At the age of 94 Sidney Poitier would of seen a lot in his life time. RIP SIR.
First reaction when she started to sing chills followed by tears. That was an amazing movie rest in sweet peace Sidney
mm lo
I've just read Sidney Poitier passed away. He was a great actor. "To Sir, With Love" one of my favorite movies. RIP.🌹
This great movie connect with audiences generation after generation. The movie producer should learn from this and go for higher
Was in school when this movie was released. Every time I see this movie, I am reminded of my school days. One of the best songs ever.
TO SIR WITH LOVE (ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES) GROWING UP IN LA MIRADA, CALIFORNIA USA😊❤😂😅
Rest in peace
this song hits hard even yrs later
Oh yeah
Seen it many times love it. I'm 72 years old
Y yo en este momento tengo 74 años; vi la película en 1967 cuando era un joven de 18 años !!
Creo que fué uno de las grandes experiencias que me impulsaron a ser maestro universitario por casi 45 años !!
Saludos !!
Me too ,lam a sixty year old Brasilian
I saw a lot of times too,is good to see this movie across The time, i was The students ,after The teacher now The principal ,differents points of view ,sorry about my english, as Brasilian my mother language is portuguese

😢❤🥂🍾🍷🍷🍷
this film wouldn't be made today, still classic
This song makes me emotional all the time.
See the movie version for it is longer referring to the hit song best wishes y God bless you.
