Sure it's just Act1 100% of those "best game ever" idiots just played Act1 Act3 is horrible and the undeniable truth, that they made what they already had (D:OS 3) into BG 3, once they got the license. It's a game playing pretend.
The most important thing BG3 gets right in emulating the D&D experience, is that when you ask the game "Can I do this ridiculous solution to a problem in front of me," the game almost always answers with "Well... you can TRY."
To be fair, in regards to the bad dice rolls, he has like no bonuses or spells to give him the edge on any of his rolls. Meanwhile Taryn is playing a bard who excels at checks due to their spells and class features.

The challenge of the combat is balanced around a party of 4, because that's how challenge ratings in D&D 5e are calculated. A CR 1 monster should be a moderate challenge for a party of 4 level 1 adventurers.
I'm not able to play this myself but I'm so looking forward to the character creator. I might just spend hours on that alone, even going back to play in the creator again and again.
Those ogres are fun if you get the horn that summons them through convincing them to give it. If they die one of them has a head piece that makes your INT 17. You can just use them in fights until they eventually die
If you don't get shadowheart immediately as a companion, your symptoms+meeting a devil happens much sooner. Like within 4 long rests (I think it's closer to 2-3) while my two playthroughs that had shadowheart as my first companion I didn't get the symptoms cutscene until later. I don't know the specific timeframe from my 350+ hours of gameplay, but I was very shocked by the devil appearing outside the Emerald Grove. At this point I haven't even reached Ethel or the Goblin Camp.
Its funny cuz my chaotic brain is always wanting to take the risks too 🤣 I just wanna see what crazy things come of it and I ALSO had that exact same experience with that mind flayer where I died 🤣

@@brinnshea I'm. Decideing when can get the game as I've never played a balders gate game before. And balders gate 3 seems to be a good point to jump in, I know a few things however I'm trying to make sure my first playthrough is new and as non spoliery when I can get around to it

Just a quick thing as well, if you enjoyed Divinity Original Sin 2, id definitely recommend the first one, the narrative is all based around the co op and you can form personalities and the relationship of your main characters depending on what dialogue options you pick, in terms of two player co op, its a much better experience than 2 i think.

one thing i have learned from playing d 20 modern is you sometimes have to a take a risk and if your character dies well you can just make another one
for me the best change is that jump is not a huntsman spell anymore
