Wow, Chris and Joyce are "concerned" about Demi Moore's screen time, and they talk about it almost every show. Her screen time doesn’t matter, as she delivers the most emotional and iconic scene in front of the mirror-by far the most memorable performance among some bland ones.
We both have Angelina getting nominated. It is evident that Cynthia Erivo is doing her own singing in Wicked. Angelina is not a professional singer. I wouldn’t put Erivo into this lineup over Angelina. All of these thoughts can be true at the same time. Thanks for watching!
You pick the most negative email about The Substance. You only keep pointing out the film's weaknesses. You repeatedly saying the film might get hair and make-up. Honestly, None of us are here for the hair and make-up line up. Why showing such negativity and lack of passion towards Demi Moore and The Substance even though the film has become a phenomenon?
I don’t really understand this comment - and with more than 100 upvotes, a rarity for our channel, I feel like it’s a bot army situation. But to take it in good faith: we like this movie! It’s also true that Demi has comparable screen time to Margaret and arguably isn’t the focus point of the final 30 minutes, which everyone loves. Its exemplary hair and makeup work should be nominated and it should win. I also have it getting in for original screenplay. Sorry you think these comments are negative!
Yeah, it's either bots or groundless stans attack - I'm much higher on The Substance chances but all you & Joyce say are reasonable takes (and far from most dismissive in the awards following circles!). Lot of undeniable performances missed for some reasons and The Substance belonging to beloved Academy genre of body horror is enough of a question mark without considering things like screen time, other contenders and so on.
38:15 This comment about Hard Truths is spot on. When Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Mike Leigh collaborate, people expect another modern masterpiece like Secrets and Lies, but it isn’t. The plot meanders, Marianne’s character is shallow, and she spends most of the film screaming. Honestly, it's one of the worst films of 2024, yet critics are raving as if it's perfect. You’re predicting Jean-Baptiste will get a Critics Choice nomination, but that’s happening. There's nothing for her beyond a possible BAFTA nomination.
They’ve certainly said this. I’d believe it. But if you see the film, it’s clear the blend is very tilted toward Maria Callas, which gives the sense that it is lip syncing. Her singing voice doesn’t match the way her onscreen singing is depicted and sounds because of it. In Wicked, it’s obvious the actresses are the people doing the singing with their own voices. It makes a difference!
Everytime I hear praise from emailers for The Substance and how it's their favorite film that they're hope-dicting it, I keep rolling my eyes and say you all should watch other movies. 😒
Demi and Margaret are both Leads in The Substance. That said, I am fine with Qualley being campaigned in Supporting. They both deserve Oscar nominations and they'd be two of the coolest nominations in Academy history.
Regarding Selena, what stigma does she have to overcome? She has been acting in tv and film since she was a child, and her most known work is starring alongside two veterans in one of the most known comedy shows, earning her and the rest of the cast emmy and golden globe nominations She made the transition a long time starring in diverse films alongside more renowned actors (many being academy voters)
@ i’m pretty sure the television academy’s actor branch knows more about acting than your lame ass Many outlets called her the highlight and heart and soul of the film, if you want to be hateful, do it correctly
I disagree so vehemently that it's a bad idea to spit Wicked into 2 films. Like, how on earth are you gonna go from Defying Gravity to Thank Goodness, without significantly reducing the impact of either? It's just necessary to give both stories their moment, and Act 2 doesn't suffer from the major tonal shift.
Stop manipulating the narratives - Demi Moore is in the movie 53% of the time Qualley 48% and the screen time data has been done - Joyce is correct they are co leads - Moore is absolutely in the film enough
This is wrong. Demi is at 42.02 percent, while Margaret is at 40.82 percent (Matthew Stewart logs these numbers). Overall, Demi Moore was in the movie for 101 seconds more than Margaret Qualley. So, yes, they are co-leads but it's pretty close and you could easily imagine a scenario where they're flipped. And all this said, while you're continuing to rage about this: I put Demi and Margaret into my predictions on the latest refresh because I do think there is so much passion for the film (as evidenced by our page here). You're welcome.
If the political climate affects in any way the awards season Actors and stories about people of color could benefit from this, especially movies like emilia perez and their actresses being the only latino representation from a front-runner film for best picture Of course sing sing has colman domingo, but he's already locked
So if yall were never bored why complain about the runtime but give praise to the brutalist… but i guess so wicked is better than one of the best picture locks (emilia perez) but still yall didnt like it im sooo confused
I... don't think we ever said we didn't like it. I do think it's better than Emilia Perez, which is also good. The Brutalist running time felt somewhat shorter than Wicked because of how The Brutalist is structured and given an intermission. These are all thoughts we can have at the same time. Fun movie, can't wait to see Wicked again.
@@chrisjroseni have seen multiple interpretations of elphaba, and cynthia looks like she is playing her more internal to set up for the big acting moments in part 2 but i get that its your job to be critical. Its apart of the business of movies 🤷🏾♂️
@@dayvaughnmonroe9540 I think this is exactly right -- that's why I expect her to be a very serious contender for Best Actress next year. @@chrisjrosen yea i actually agree. Being as though this year the categories are kinda wide open, i would love to see them both get in, but i know when people refer to “genre” movies they think of horror but i think being in a fantasy is a hard task, not impossible but definitely an uphill battle.
@@chrisjrosen I haven't seen the film but I have read the book and seen the musical and, you know better than me having seen the film, but if they stuck to the darker turn surrounding the animals, it could help.
@@kwalton7690 they certainly make it as dark as required -- I guess I don't know how to verbalize it. I still have it in Best Picture but I can't say I'm all that confident in any of these movies in the bottom half right now.
Wicked could potentially get a best picture nomination if it has good reviews and crosses 1B at the box office But predicting acting categories for a fantasy film, especially for someone like ariana, who is known more as a singer and hasn’t made the public transition as an actress like Gaga did years before a star is born It’s just wishful thinking, especially with the academy voting system, she won’t get enough #1s in the ballots, even if she makes it to some precursors like jlo

Uh, okay!
You guys are always talking trash about Jolie in Maria. Were you like this with Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose too?
Because they want some kiddie movies to get nominated.

Angelina isn’t lip syncing she actually singed all the performances herself on her own then her voice was blended with Maria’s
