I don't believe we're dismissing The Substance at all. In fact, we were fairly early adopters on taking it seriously as an awards movie. I have it getting in for HMU and screenplay, and I think director, actress, and supporting actress are in play. Best Picture remains a longer shot but it's very possible!

It seems as though you’re overlooking the flaws in other films in the race, almost as if they're all flawless. I've seen quite a few films during the festival season, and I believe The Substance shouldn’t be reduced to just its hair and makeup.
@@janekent190 No they're just being realistic. I feel like voters in the Academy just won't care about The Substance. Everytime I here audiences say it's their favorite movie of the year I roll my eyes and say you should watch other movies.

Isabella did get applause for her big moment in my audience of about a dozen. Agree it's a very small role, but I thought she was fascinating and hope she makes the Final Five.
I'm sure Felicity Jones will definitely be the critics pick sweeper of the season. She gives a great performance in a beloved highbrow movie The Brutalist that will likely win many critics awards.

Yeah Netflix is really not helping The Piano Lesson releasing it on the platform the same weekend as Wicked and Gladiator II. They do this every year, acquire films that they can't all support during the awards season. I think Danielle can get in but she will have to be everywhere like Coleman Domingo was for Rustin. I am very curious on if The Fire Inside gets any momentum closer to release in December in the acting categories, Best Actress for Ryan Destiny or Best Supporting Actor for Brian Tyree Henry. I was impressed with Amazon MGM's campaign for American Fiction, getting Best Supporting Actor and Score along with the expected Screenplay, Actor, and Picture noms and think they can put all there focus in The Fire Inside for acting and Nickel Boys for Picture and Director.

Yes. Historically, a movie like The Substance would not make it into the Best Picture race. The comps for September 5, meanwhile, are Spotlight and Argo, two movies that have won Best Picture. So there is logic behind this but I agree that The Substance also has a lot of momentum at the moment.

Perhaps the reason for Juror #2's non existent Oscar push is because the story and concept bears a uncomfortably obvious similarity to "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" The Star Juror episode (1963). This might be used in a negative campaign. Still, it is a very entertaining film.
I saw unstoppable here in Chicago, I do think Don Cheadle, supporting, Jharrel, Leading, and Jennifer Lopez for supporting. When it drops in December, people will be on board with these three predictions. This is a good movie. Amazing.
As a Washington, DC native, I will refuse to watch the Apprentice because of the fact that Dan Synder (the most hated man in Washington DC) is one of the producers. I refuse to give him any more money. However I am laughing hysterically that it is not pro Trump film and Synder is Trump supporter who didn't read the script but funded the movie.
That's not how it works! They get in if there's passion for the performance or the movie but no one in the Academy cares about them getting snubbed previously.
